OT: Any music player apps that rotate? - SOLVED!

EDIT: VLC Media Player does - but I went for Neutron Music Player!

I need to use the lightning port (with mini jack adapter) but obviously I cannot sit the iPhone on the stand as the cable would get crushed over time.

Now we all know Apple does not allow iPhones to rotate 180, and for the most part 90 is ok, however the iOS music app does neither. So I'm looking for a music app that does rotate.

From what I have read app developers can include that option in the underlying software??

  • Shameless ad: MusicFolder does rotate to landscape, but it can only play files stored locally on your device using the "Files" app, not music from your (iTunes) library.

    https://apps.apple.com/ie/app/musicfolder-2/id1366466861

  • Nope did not mind the shameless ad hahaha!

Looks interesting - does it autoplay songs (as the iOS music app does) or does it wait for user input to play the next file?

Can play either in sequence (gapless) or shuffle through the current folder and its sub(subsubsub)folders!

  • Thanks but that doesn't really answer the question, so I am guessing not.

  • Cs: Music Player works in landscape on iphones, and has several nice features vs default ios music app:

Could not find this info in the brief description on Appstore - nor could I find a way to contact the dev....

When you have a playlist, can you set it so that the next song does not start automatically, and rather, waits for user input (ie press play)?

afaik no. would be nice. i wish it had a "stop after current" button too.

MusicFolder has "Stop after current". However, this resets after each song, so you'd have to remember to set it again after manually starting another song.

Not sure if this checks all the boxes (rotates on my ipad) but I really really like it... https://apps.apple.com/us/app/oplayer-video-player/id344784375

  • Thanks guys - yeah for the most part, they all rotate on ipads - it's the iphone that is the issue!

Yeah I read that on many of these - but (and maybe I'm just being cynical) who knows where they stop once that "genie" is out...then again, I guess there is only the "word" of a developer when they state they don't collect ANY data :/

That aside, it does look like a very tidy app for sure!! And it states in the description it can be landscape or portrait.

I believe there's more to it than that. Apple reviews every app and compliance with the security policy is easy to verify. I'm sure that is verified with every app review. It's transparent and trivial to do, and Apple is serious about privacy.

Yes, you're probably correct there! Anyhoo, as that app is about the only one that apparently does the job, I'm going to give it a try :)

  • Well that was not a good experience! Just tried the OPlayer Lite version just to test, and all it does is continually scroll through the list of songs on the iPhone....and the only way I can access those is via something they call iPod library? Seems to be a pretty ordinary attempt at getting new customers!

  • Sheesh, this is like extracting hens teeth!! hahah

One would think that a simple audio file player, that can run in landscape and pause between songs would be quick and simple to find.....NOT!!!

I posted one, SevenSystems posted another.
Both with some issues, but can rotate!

Why should a player pause between songs?

because it is being used on stage for backing trax

Yes it can. Maybe not from iTunes, but it absolutely can stream from any file available in the files app.
