AudioKit Saga Synth (Rompler) Released | Vid Walkthrough, Demo, Giveaway
AudioKit Saga synth, by Matthew Fecher, Brian Funk and Cem Olcay, is an excellent chip-tune-flavoured rompler based on 16-bit video game sounds, sampled from 5 different sega sound chips. Despite the name it is a rompler rather than a synth, but don’t let that put you off.
There are about 100 samples to combine in 2 layers, allowing a very wide variety of sounds, some reminiscent of the fighting sounds in old Sega games, some beautiful leads, fat pads, basses etc. it has a nice 1-lane built in sequencer and a bunch of decent-sounding fx. Costing only $3 on intro offer, it’s the same price as your average iOS preset pack, and has hundreds of presets, both factory sounds and presets from popular iOS sound designers and YouTubers. If you like these kind of sounds, and appreciate a quick workflow, it’s basically a no-brainer purchase. I have 5 copies of any AudioKit app to give away. See the pinned YouTube comment for details!

Awesome, mate! Still watching, but loving it so far. Cheap too. Hope it supports my OS version
VHS isn't, so i'm not keeping my hopes up
Cheers! For the price of a preset pack, you can’t go far wrong picking this up if you like some metallic, retro sounds!
It can surely pair nice with the chiptuney gadgets from Korg too
👍🏼
i really enjoy all Audio kit Romplers, but for what i hear, im not really sure if most of the chip tunes fits in my music production, not a fan of chiptunes and metallic sounds, but i still will get it because it adds 100 more sounds to my sounds library for 2.99 which its not a bad deal, plus i probably can make 15% to 25% of the sounds fit some where in my production, probably more so as background fx and maybe and a few of them as backup melodies, which will depends on what im going for
Not entering this giveaway, lol. I'm buying Saga outright. $2.99 is one helluva steal. 🤯

WOOHOO!!!
Edit: Just played through a few presets in various banks. I absolutely love this rompler! I finished my "8-bit boy band" beat earlier today, and I plan to make a Lofi beat next. Saga will definitely be used!
Thnx for sharing the link John!
It's pretty versatile, eh? > @SLPGroundSoundMusic said:
I kind of want to take some of those game noises, slow them down like crazy in audiostretch and then see what they sound like through a nice big reverb like Alteza
Cheers @CapnWillie! Time to pull out the ipad!
Good demo. The GUI looks good, and there seems to be a lot of adjustment controls for the sounds, and you can layer stuff. I love retro games, but too bad that the sounds are not something I am looking for.
Sounds amazing!!!
There are a lot of nice presets here, from recognizable game sounds, to pads and beyond. Like I say, for the price of a preset pack on gumroad, you can't go far wrong.
Good article here about Brian Funk's Ableton Pack and the Sega chip sound

Yes! I planned to purchase just for the sounds. I played with some of your presets. Simply amazing!
Ah thanks a lot, glad you liked them! I really regret not putting SEQ at the end of all the sequenced ones - best bet is always to keep the play button on 😁
Hahaha Lofi with 8-bit 😀
LOL! Yep. Most Lofi tracks (like Lofi girl) make use of "live" instruments (well, acoustic pianos and guitars, electric pianos and guitars, acoustic and electric basses, vibraphones, etc), so I'm wondering "why not apply Jazz theory to 8-bit sounds instead and make them sound like they were recorded to magnetic tape?" 😂 The way my mind works.
Bought to support the platform and the developers.
Sounds nice through PaulXStretch!
Awesome @Gavinski
Love this kind of thinking outside the box
PaulXStretch is definitely some secret sauce for ambient!
I’m all about the links! BTW, how is your eyesight doing?
This app is great. So many great sounds in here. @Gavinski — your “Deckhard’s Vegas” preset is fantastic!
Thanks, I like that one! > @johnfromberkeley said:
Eh... This is probably not the answer you were hoping to hear, but could be better, much better. I have a slight membrane growing on the macula of my right eye, which, if it worsens enough, will require a vitrectomy. For now it has actually improved slightly since it was diagnosed, I've been taking Chinese medicine and doing a few other treatments, regular eye massage and steam treatment etc, trying to be really careful about lubricating my eyes properly. But it affects my vision in a way that can't be fixed by glasses, sadly. I hope it will continue to improve or at least stabilise, but all the screen time I do is really far from ideal. Anyway, fingers crossed and thanks for asking John 🙏
Can we have a SNES version of this next, please?
...It would be like sampling the Roland SoundCanvas thru a decimator.
The Sound Canvas was the sound module most SNES composers sampled their sounds from and since memory was very limited the sounds had to be down-sampled/re-sampled to low sample-rates.
Combine that with no interpolation (just basic sample & hold) when playing back the samples at different speeds and you get that classic sound full of aliasing noises
isn't SNES sound at all? i was expecting something like that
So.... would be better to just stay with the Soundfonts with SNES sounds
Well, this is based on sega sounds, not Nintendo!
I mean, it’s literally based on samples of sega chips.
Now, to really tickle my retro, I want a BBC Micro rompler. Had one from the age of 8. I remember thinking that Citadel had the coolest graphics ever. A quick search on YouTube reminded me how far we've come since then 😂
