Damn. I take most RIP's in stride. But this one hurts. I'm almost in tears right now. That's not like me at all.

Once in a while a true great passes. Frankly I sometimes feel that I’m becoming inured to the deaths as everyone gets exactly the same obituary, with mediocre musicians who have recorded nothing but bland, formulaic music being accorded accolades such as “genius”, “unique”, “hugely talented”, etc. the moment they drop dead.

    Not in this case.

Wow…thanks for the info…I was not aware of that theater….
Were you at that show? This recording was what turned me on to him…I found the LP in my elder brothers record collection in the 90’s!

    Indelible.
Until some asshole tossed an M80 on stage and it exploded above his head. Still kept on jammin’ though.

True greatness and uniqueness and class. RIP!

The Live at Ronnie Scotts DVD is one of my all-time treasures. Mind blowing end-to-end. And yes Tap Wilkenfeld is amazing. That DVD is the first I had heard of her. When I saw her on stage at first I thought ... oh no, not another throw away where someone brings on their kid or nephew and they kinda suck. That thought didn't last long. 😂

Incidentally, the bassist has quite a few accomplishments under her belt. There are still great musicians in this world.

  • Absolute master. True great. 😢

This is one of the all time great performances by anyone on a guitar… ever.

  • Glad I got to see him. RIP
