  • Woodsynth is a must have in terms of digital synths. It’s extremely powerful in many ways. I don’t really find myself recommending that many specific synths outside of hilda dagger and Redshrike but at this price it would be a shame not to recommend it

  • I might grab it, if there’s a good amount of presets… I’m more of a build a song with a preset and do lil tweaks rather than try to build a sound when there’s so many parameters.
On more simple synths i do better at sound design

  • Glad I bought this one :) It's fairly intuitive... once you get used to the typical "woodman" interface logic.

It looks like you can go deep with it, but you don't have to. I was able to play around with this for about an hour and figured out most of the interface without much effort. The presets are great and I love that I can use my own audio samples on all 4 layers if I want.

The sequencer is easy to figure out, but I'm wondering if I have have a different length sequence for each of the 4 layers.. then set the sequencer random or playlist. So far, it looks like all 4 sequencers have to be the same length... unless I'm missing something.

The preset navigation is a bit wonky, but I think that's because it's using some longpress interaction where you might not be expecting it. After you figure when you need to use longpress... it's pretty easy to navigate.

Overall.. an exceptional bargain, awesome sound, a fairly intuitive interface that can go deeper if you want to... and a helluva lot of experimental fun for $5!!!

Yes, preset navigation only seems to work with press and hold. But sometimes even without holding... I think it could be improved.

Yeah, I’d agree with that. It’s completely usable as-is… but could use a tweak or two

  • @skiphunt : the sequencers can have a different length, did a quick check to verify. If you see it different, let me know or send me a preset showing it (as it is always possible this one parameter makes a difference ...)

How do you set different seq lengths? Each time I set a length, it sets the same length for each layer’s sequence. Entirely possible I’m not setting it correctly

Never mind. I figured it out. I’d confused the 4 VAR options with the 4 layer options. I can see now that the actual layer selections are at top left and not part of the 4 VAR variation selections.

    Cool :)

  • @skiphunt : ok nice, and even in the Variations it is indirectly possible by using the "Skip" buttons or the "On Probability".

I wonder how well it works on iPhone? The screenshot on the Appstore doesn't look promising 🥴

Currently my favorite synth, it does sooo much, tooo much- but the UI is jacked on my IpHone 12 max pro.

Jacked how? Presets (most dropdown) won’t change, you gotta hit next to get the preset to change. Blah, presets- right?! Wait till you hear them. Such a great sounding synth, and works perfect on my IPAD.

    • would only buy if u plan on using it on iPad at this point.

    Still, an amazing synth

  • @ejacul337 : yes you are absolutely right, it was written for the iPad (and/or Mac) and by default it scales to iPhone which usually works reasonably well but for WoodSYnth with all the controls it is not good. I can see if I can make a dedicated UI for iPhone but as that takes quite a bit of time it would be nice to know how many people (+-) are interested in that ?

  • Man, I feel terrible for the statement about only getting it if you plan on using an iPad. I am super grateful for the amazing synth and it’s absolutely unique sounds being available on my iPhone, so I do not mean to discourage purchase at all. I can say in all honesty that WoodSynth is the best sounding synth on MY iPhone.

** NOTE: Everything works perfectly on the IPad

As an iPhone user I would be too!

  • Was just playing with this tonight and yes, an iPhone version would be appreciated over here. Glad to have it on the phone anyway but it gets a little tricky at times.
