I hope that PaulByDesign's FM AUv3 synth gets released soon. Also, KORG hasn't brought us a new app or gadget since 2020.

I gave up thinking Gadget will ever get an update. They know IAA is getting obsolete and coding it to auv3 will probably be too much work. They just let it die and milk it in the meantime with some new IAP modules from time to time. But that's just my 2 cents.

I have been thinking the same thing, particularly when considering how often in the past they have quietly lost interest in developing desktop software further.

That's always been their modus operandi for all their other iOS software too. It's extremely rare that they go back and update apps after the first few go-rounds of updates at the first. I don't think it's a case of losing interest. I think it's just their business model. And probably a good one at that - if you look at it from a return on investment perspective.

Thankfully, they do make extremely stable products. I mean, look at their synths and apps like iELECTRIBE. I've never had a single problem with any of them. Frustration over lack of some features yes, but they always work.

  • AppStore price hikes are something we'll have to get used to...
...next one will hit a few countries on February 13th.

I’m more thinking of their older desktop apps, which were stuck at version 1 for many years, and were barely updated (and very buggy) when they did eventually get round to it.

Anyone that asked questions about them on their forum got the same copy/paste reply, and suddenly they were trying to sell those apps as a package with one or two new ones. It just didn’t feel like customers were getting anywhere with what were genuine concerns.

I have bought quite a few of their iPad apps, but can’t help get a feeling of déjà vu.

I sometimes wonder if Korg is quietly working on a Gadget Pro. All the old gadgets would be there, plus a few new ones, plus an AUV3 host gadget, ability to add auv3 fx, and a few more robust features missing from Gadget.

  • I would NOT be surprised of we see some new Korg apps this year...

There was this weird 'Gadget VR' thing they showed long time ago and since Apple is on the way with their 'AR/VR headset' it would come as no real surprise if we get Gadget VR for some future Apple device.

Gadget 3 with auv3 hosting would be my ideal daw. Fingers crossed.

I don’t see the appeal of vr music making beyond the small bit of excitement when you see the beautifully rendered virtual studio space. Unless there’s some kind of amazing new design paradigm that brings music making to a whole new level of fun and ease, it’ll just be a gimmick, like “rotate your wrist to rotate the knob on this virtual mixing board”. Big time yawn on that kind of stuff

I like desktop with multiple monitors, spreading everything out, way more than being crammed into one screen and having to jump between screens/panels/apps. If VR Gadget lets a bunch of things (multiple piano rolls, gadgets etc) be open at once then it could maybe be good. AUM VR could be sweet too. But yah I imagine button presses and knobs are not very good in vr in general.

    @SecretBaseDesign ’s visual synth?

Oh, dang. I did a bunch of hacks to the code, and then it fell off my radar. I need to knock out an update for that. The hacks are pretty cool.

Dang, you’re making me curious. :) I think it’s a great little app!

  • Hopefully those will make a bigger splash than the geoshred naada packs released last year, which despite being excellent, seemed to go almost unnoticed here

I’m looking forward to new SWAMs, especially harmonica.

Me too. If I recall correctly, there will be world/ethnic instruments on iOS this year too.

We'll have to wait and see...
...I'm still looking forward to seeing some major updates (or new versions) of some of my favorite apps.

So far it's been a super light year with zero new app purchase and honestly, why even bother buying new apps when most of them just end up wasting space on the iPad after the initial 'wow factor' wears off?!

Pretty much right there with ya. I’ve only purchased SAGA synth thus far this year. I won a copy of Trinity and Audulus 4 and was given a code for LFOCH. Focus this year is not attaining apps, but rather learning what I have and releasing preset banks for many. My new GAS has been directed towards the TX-6 🤦🏽‍♂️
