Exactly. I didn't want to get this synth at all, either.
I'm loving these ARP's mate, they kind of have that detuned low-fi sound I really like. Awesome job, can't wait to hear the rest of them now!!
Me neither, but Spider catches me every time.
Disgusting, isn't it. 😀 And he's adding insult to injury by suggesting these may be better than his Kaspar presets (obvious blasphemy right there) which are my favourites and clearly the best he has ever created. Leaving us no chance, is he.
With the new oscillators , I’m much more tempted. Didn’t need another va. I rate 4Pockets stuff very highly.
🤣😈
Sorry about that! But > @ervin said:
😆😈
Got plenty of stuff ongoing and planned for Copperhead. It's brilliant! Will upload a few more audio demos here later for the arps and sequences bank. 62 presets so far. Very quick and easy to get good things going on it.
The new OSCs definitely take it much further than the other va synths.
I hesitate to ask because it's probably not in your workflow, but have you seen if Copperhead is available as a desktop download on macOS? Some of the 4Pockets apps do work as AU's in GarageBand on desktop...
Paul says it works on an M1 Mac in Logic Pro....whatever that means! 😉 I don't personally dabble in desktops at all except at work of course.
Ah, thanks for that. If it works in Logic Pro on an M1, then it will work as an AU in GarageBand. This is pushing me further toward buying it now.
As well as generating notes, the onboard sequencer doubles as a motion sequencer with multiple lanes linked to certain parameters. You can switch the note generator off and still have the sequencer creating motions for the various parameters. There's a lane for each assignable parameter separately! As an example, I'm working on an arp that has motion sequencing on the cutoff filter, bit crusher, resonance and OSC mix knob, and all those assigned parameters are being modulated differently in their own lanes! That's a lot of movement and expression as the arp plays!! It's only a two OSC synth (with optional sub), but with those separate and synced rhythmical modulations from the sequencer lanes affecting all those parameters, it sounds like there's a whole multitracked performance going on! Definitely gives the impression of more than two OSCs playing at once! It's pretty crazy the amount of movement and expression you can get using the motion sequencer lanes.
@NeuM Here’s an example of what I mean about the motion sequencing creating movement and expression in an arp sequence, that sounds like more than two basic OSCs playing together:

I see/hear what you mean!
Here’s a few more Copperhead presets demos.
One patch each in standalone mode, only what’s coming out of Copperhead, demonstrating the sequencer and motion sequencing in action.
Nice to hear the new ARP's, all really nice, especially the first one (Demo 13). Heavy use of the Bit Cruncher, but I know you have some awesome clean ones too. This is going to be an fantastic sounding bank mate, can't wait to let it loose on the masses.
Thanks, mate. I do love the bit crusher!
Really appreciating the way you can sweep between the two OSCs or just drop in a quick filter sweep or glide for interesting accents and expressions in the arps using the motion sequencing.
I could instantly tell after first examining and listening to Copperhead that it was going to be a huge bank. So many creative possibilities! It's an absolute joy to work with.
These are pretty exciting. I like where you're going with these patches, @Spidericemidas.
Those examples are killer. I must admit I wasn’t sure what to make of copperhead originally but once I saw/heard a few videos and bought it I was happy. Can’t wait to have these patches at my disposal. You are awesome @Spidericemidas
Thanks as always for your support! 😊
Yeah I'm totally stoked with it. Incredible range of creative possibilities. The bank will eventually be released as an update to Copperhead. I'll post a notification on the forum when it's about to be released. 👊😁
Probably buying this.
I like sequencer synths.
The sequencer onboard this one is extra versatile and special. It also offers modulation sequencing on a rather impressive and useful list of parameters, all on their own individual sequencing pages!
A wonderful little touch is that when you switch the sequencer from the note placing screen to any other parameter screens, you can still see the notes pattern 'underneath', so to speak, as they turn transparent. So you can still see where notes are on the timeline and therefore you can see where you might want to set a sequencer modulation on a particular note or section of notes to create an accent or interesting change.
You can also set types of accompanyment on the arps with a mix of user-specified finger numbers and arrangements with a couple of other lanes offset to say 7ths or octaves to be played automatically along with your arp. It really is good and makes it very easy to experiment and come up with melodic ideas.
Cheers.
Does sequencer for modulation work if synth note, is being sequenced else where ( Drambo ) ?
Yes.
You would switch on the sequencer in Copperhead and select sync to host. You would set pattern mode to continuous so that the sequencer continues to run and loop in sync with the host instead of restarting the sequencer from the beginning everytime a note is triggered. You don't need to have any notes in the sequencer. You can trigger the notes from another sequencer and just have the Copperhead sequencer modulations running continuously in sync with the host. Hope that makes sense!
Or, I guess if you don't set pattern mode to continuous, the sequencer modulations will restart from the beginning when a new note is triggered and will run as long as notes are held down.
Cool.
Thanks Spidericemidas.
I’m onboard the Copperhead bus. As with most 4 Pockets apps, it’s what’s under the hood that counts, glad to be able to adjust the colours and knobs though.
Yeah it's a nice touch. I've got mine set to a blue scheme with the bright white dial graphics. It's surprising just how much the visual aesthetics can inspire creativity or make it even more inviting to work with.
I think it has a really nice warm fat deep sound. Lots of character and texture. In some cases I've actually had to use the onboard EQ to shave off some bottom end to tame that fat bass.
People thinking about buying Copperhead might want to do it today. On sale.
One thing I’d like to see slightly improved as a GarageBand user @4pockets_paul (and yes, I know it seems like there are so few of us here) would be the ability to use Copperhead as an AUv3 and the GarageBand keyboard at the same time. It’s not possible to click through patches or make adjustments at the same time while playing the keyboard. One must maximize Copperhead to make adjustments, then minimize it to use the GB keyboard to hear what it sounds like.
And I’d also really like to advocate for letting Copperhead use the full width of the screen available in GarageBand so the UI is as big as possible, especially since I’m using an iPad Pro and want to really dive into the cleverly hidden features and functions in Copperhead. (Note: On desktop the app being large enough is not an issue.)
I’ve also noticed using the knobs to adjust is not as smooth or precise as I’d like to see, especially compared to the knobs on the Moog synths, for example.
Thanks, Paul. I like the sounds I’m hearing out of this synth so far. 👍 And I appreciate the synth working as an AU on macOS (M1 computer) also. That’s a huge competitive advantage.
Awesome. I thought it might be included since they have a few other banks in there from a few other sound designers. Plus after a quick search I didn’t see a bank or patch import…
Up to about 90 arp presets in there now. There's so much fun and experimental stuff can be done with it. I found some are good also just as one finger basslines running alongside a 4-on-the-floor kick drum to get something groovy going in AUM to jam over.
I'll release it soon and then I've got to start a new bank for Pads and Atmos sounds. The tools onboard now provide huge scope for interesting sound designs and it's so quick and easy to program.
