    Thanks everyone.
Im not new to sequencing. But I am new to the iPhone being used this way. So I dont know much about multiple apps open and linking them internally.
Can I play Synth One with quantum?
Chordflow looks very cool,. I have suggester on my iPad. I'll have to check them all out. I have to be frugal at the moment. But this is a great thread I'll be coming back to, Thank you

Do you have any kind of host app / daw like aum?

I just tried quantum direct to synth one, though that's never the way I would work personally, I always use AUM. I turned on 'background audio ' in Synth One settings but for some reason it's still not running in the background - as soon as I switch back to quantum, the audio stops, not sure if this is a bug or some kind of user error. Would strongly recommend getting an app like aum to run your projects inside. If you like modular sequencers etc, you'll probably like aum as it is very modular and flexible in nature.

You can connect Quantum to Synth One without a host. Just remember to turn on background audio in synth one.

As just mentioned, for some reason that is not working on my device tho. Latest ios, latest synth one version, 12.9 3rd gen Pro

Are you sure that you have it set up right? I just tried it and it works fine for me. You have turned on background audio in synth one and set it as the destination from Quantum?

  • Quantum's devices list needs to have AudioKit Synth one turned on as an active destination

Ah good stuff, I couldn't see where to connect quantum to synth one, tried that just now and yes, works fine, cheers!

Yes, you can play Synth One with Quantum, with or without a host.

    • In Synth One settings, enable Background Audio Always On
    • You probably also want Velocity Sensitive MIDI on.
    • In Quantum go to the Devices button at the top-left of the interface
    • Look in the list near the bottom of that dialog. Tap AudioKit Synth One, then tap the Active button.
    • NOTE: Synth One will continue to run in the background and drain your battery if not force-quitted when you're done.

Because these aren't AUv3 apps running in a host, the setup won't necessarily be saved for each app.

If you choose different apps, such as midiDREAMs and another synth that has an AUv3 version, running in a host, setup can be saved and recalled instantly.

Ha! You beat me to it @Gavinski - and with graphics no less. I'm losing my touch.

Enabling background audio in Synth One is an important step tho.

Those graphics were from Ed haha! I'm still not sure why Quantum was sending any midi to Synth One at all when I hadn't selected it properly. Weird. Anyway, sorted! Like I say I never ever use apps like these directly rather than through a host.

Just reiterate what I was asking for. An arp type sequencer like in synth one. But with a little more features , especially in the time department. I’m not looking for over the top stuff. Just something to twiddle little Melodies with, and yes, with an in built sound. I don’t care if it’s a sine wave

Your question is clear. The answers above are as close as any iOS apps get.

There are 10 bajillion apps on iOS, so sure, maybe there's some obscure app out there that fits what you're looking for, but if there is and it's not known about around here, then it's a well kept secret.

  • Magellan 2 is a synth and has a sequencer in the analogue style:

Good call! I totally forgot that one.

  • I got quantum sequencer. It’s great. Works fine on the iPhone with synth one. But I can’t use the iPad with two audio apps it seems. I only hear synth one when I bring it up and it stops its sound when I bring quantum back up.

  • You need to go in Synth 1 settings and ask it to play in background.

  • Yeah you need to do 2 things, as mentioned above -
    1. Make sure that background mode is switched on in whatever apps you're trying to play with the sequencer
    2. Make sure you choose both those synths as active destinations in Quantum, again, already described by several people above

And yes Quantum is very cool. If it was auv3 I'd use it more, but it's really one of the best sequencers we have for sure
