There aren't "too many" plugins. There ARE too many people who just collect stuff plugins, hardware... It's part of a pursuit of a unreachable "perfection". "If I just get this one plugin or one piece of hardware then I'll have THE SETUP".

I respectfully disagree. I am certainly not reaching for perfection, as anyone who has had the misfortune to listen to my noises can attest. What I am doing is having fun. At the current price point of iOS apps (an issue in itself, I realise) I can afford to buy one or two a week, just to find out if I like them. This would certainly not be the case at the price point of Mac or PC plug in prices.

My own self imposed rule is if I buy it, I must immediately use it in a posted piece at least once, and I have held to that for over four years now, so the fun of messing with a new toy on a regular basis has directly influenced and driven my ‘creativity’.

A bigger problem for me now is that I have so many apps, most of them off the iPad, that I forget I have them, or can’t remember what one is called when I am reaching for a particular flavour. Very much a First World Problem, I know, but still annoying…

    Yeah, this...

  • It’s never enough, until your heart stops beating…

  • I often find myself hearing about something, thinking 'this sounds cool', looking it up on the appstore and then realising, damn, I actually have this - and haven't even deleted it lol. A recent example was Modulin

  • I love that there's still tons of cool new ideas and plugins with interesting GUIs and different algos coming out every day with new ways to create and make noise.

I feel that the way to make music is not buying plugins, but using the plugins in we have. It's why I'm taking a year-long GAS hiatus. I'm forced to use every piece of gear I've bought, and what I don't use I clearly don't like for some reason and I strip it away from my workflow.

I say more cool, weird plugins. Especially with AI rearing it's ugly head around the corner with new algos to play with.

Happens to me as well from time to time...
But I have to say that even though I've cleaned out a LOT of apps I don't miss the once that are currently gone from my devices.
(And yes, I've removed a lot of 'classics', Nave, iSEM, PPG Apps, Yonac Stuff, IceGear stuff, Synthmaster One, BeatHawk 2 and shedload of early AUv3 effect apps that are total meh in comparison to what we have available today).

  • This one is also pretty spot on…
