I'm not sure Gadget will be leaving my iPad as I can still use it to create loops and such. But to those who do wish to delete Gadget, consider keeping Electribe Wave and Module Pro on your iPads.
If your iPad isn’t the newest, there isn’t any point in deleting Gadget.
It make the end of big prices for Korg and Roland. They need to upgrade and invest more to update and drop gadget prices or they will stop Gadget. Personally I will use gadget for fun as I paid and have just a few gadgets but no needs now to buy one more Korg Gadget.
Yeah, Logic Pro on iPad is pretty much the definition of a "game changer". Korg will either have to stop treating iOS as an afterthought, or stop bothering. I will say that the AUv3-ification of Module Pro and Electribe Wave demonstrate that Korg is at least aware of what needs to be done. We'll see if they have the will and/or resources to do it.
Definitely. If Korg were to go AUV3, I would welcome them back with open arms… but, it’s been so long, I think they’ve really missed the boat.
I thing Korg is out of the game with their all pricey apps , not sure they will react quickly
Yeah, the “react quickly” ship sailed a long time ago. They should have been working on AUv3-ifying their stuff for years now.
I wouldn’t go that far. Gadget and Logic are 2 totally different things and I’m sure I’ll still be breaking out Gadget regardless. Also Module and Electribe Wave are 2 of my more frequently used AUs.
More than anything I want iWavestation as an AU.
I stop to buy anything to Korg as they don’t care of their iOS app updates pricey and no services. Very big risk that Korg will be out of iOS music very soon. Even when it come to their music harware this is not anymore the most up to date company.
The question as Is Gadget 2 still worth it 2023 ? My answer is not anymore if you don’t buy it .not sure Korg have a future in iOS music .
I agree about iOS but Hardware wise Korg have been killing it for a long time and have made some of the best HW synths of the last couple decades, imo.
What I state for Korg Hardware is not about the quality of their past products but on harware forum many state that Korg, Roland, Yamaha doesn’t bring anymore true innovation, this more small brands that do that. It seems that for harware music keyboard and synth have a sales drop for these big brands. If their main business is dropping they can’t invest in a non profit market ios music apps. It was the same for Arturia or even Native Instruments on ios.
I’d say the Minilogue/XD/Prologue/Drumlogue/Volcas and the Modwave, etc trilogy are all really great and innovative. Korg has made like half of the best selling synths of all time so I think they’re fine on that front lol. I agree about Roland a little more and especially Yamaha. So much potential wasted with them.
And yeah smaller brands are almost always the more innovative but for a large company, Korg is very creative.
slightly old news - but keen to keep Gadget in the conversation

Hoping this signals Korg still have some interest in Gadget. I'd happily pay for an update that lets me use my gadgets as AU3 plugins / or a gadget that lets me host them. Even a relatively minor update that would allow me to use Gadget in splits-creen or within a window whilst using it with Loopy Pro would be a huge workflow boost
Really love Gadget as it is - the simplicity of use and quality of sounds I get out of Gadget. the synths sound amazing as a starting point ( some of the fx a bit weak mind )
Gadget still works perfectly for creating loops and other sampler-fodder for use with other apps
Would I love to have each gadget as an AUv3 for use with others hosts? Sure!
Can I work around the limitation using exported stems? Yes!
(Ie. I create the needed sequences in Gadget and export them as a *. wavs).
Gadget was the thing I mostly used for the first few years of getting into iPad music. It is really quick and intuitive, as others have said.
Ultimately, I got frustrated with the 16-bar no-song-mode limitation. And trying to figure out workarounds when I wanted a sound to sustain from one 16-bar chunk to the next.
I ending up switching to NS2. It has enough of the immediacy I liked about Gadget without the limitations.
But if I was making a different style of music, Gadget would probably work fine. And it is fun. So…worth it? Maybe…;)
So far Gadget has the most responsive and easy to use piano roll on all of IOS. If there is a better one out there, that supports collapsing piano roll to scale and is equally snappy, I would love to hear about it.
If only gadget could host au3v plugins, that would be the ultimate groovebox for me.
If not, BAM is ready to take over.
You can really get something quickly done in Gadget. After hardware it was my first step into iOS music making. But someday sooner or later you want to tear down it’s walls and start working with all these other great developers synths and fx, and before you know you jump towards AUM, Apematrix, Drambo, any host that doesn’t restrict you. And the fact that Gadget seems no longer in development made me steer away from it. I still use it inside my host from time to time.
I have Gadget for iPad and bought the synths for desktop when they were on sale. I never use either, but I keep thinking I will. The Arp-alike sounds good as do a few of the other synths. I'm not a clip launcher so I struggled with the Gadget UI on iPad, I just don't write that way. I think Gadget is a good value, though.
I still love Gadget. It’s the thing that made me seriously get deep into iOS music making back in 2014/15. I don’t use it as often as I used to but I still break it out every few weeks and I have a blast every time.
I’m going to give you my pros and cons, as I still use Gadget a lot!
Cons:
Hasn’t had much change in 2 years.
IFX are okay and I hate the plain guis
The pattern sequencer may not be for every one
Adding audio tracks is really a very secondary feeling thing, it’s there but most aren’t using it
Doesn’t allow gadgets to be plug ins in other Daws like on Mac
The drum machines are basically just guis with very similar features…I wish they would combine all the drum boxes into one that does it all…
No explode of individual drums tracks…<—-this is the biggest gripe I have
Pros:
Easy to jam on and sounds great
Easy export of stems and midifiles
An arsenal of decent sounding synthesizers and a dr Rex!
A quick sequencer with nice swing and good vibes *gadget makes me create differently for some odd reason
I use gadget to make jams that I can sample from
I think the gadget cloud is a cool idea, and it’s still going!
It’s really not a lot to pay, to get really dope old Korg gear and Frankenstein a Kronos to an extent
What would make it better:
Better effects with better GUI
Some new synths, like modwave, opsix, etc.
Give me a Kaoss pad already….dang for great effects
Drum explode
Gadgets in other Daws…take my money Korg
A new drum gadget that does everything the others do…
A better audio track solution
Maybe…a linear sequencer for those who hate the pattern clip based ordeal
It’s like so much Korg software - they develop it, update it for a while, then it gets forgotten as they move on to something new.
Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if they provided some info on where products are going, but they are notoriously silent on pretty much all of their older products.
@MrSmileZ could not agree more 💯
@MrSmileZ and everyone, KORG Gadget 3 has just been released.
New Gadgets, new FX, AUv3...

Do any of Gadget auv3 module bring something new to the table that is not already covered by existing auv3 ?
Yes. Stockholm is the only REX loop player and re-arranger on iOS.
Then you have various drum and effect modules with their own set of quite usable sounds.
Also, Marseille isn't too bad as a small generic sound module to start with when composing.
The best synths have yet to be added as AUv3s though.
The drums are they just sound Library or do they have midi beats or a player garage band style ?
Marseille is my go-to in Gadget for starting a new track. And now it's my go-to in NS2. Can't believe I can actually state that as fact. Korg did an amazing job with the new Gadget 3 update!
