True Pan by Quantovox (Released)

True Pan makes it possible to reposition stereo recordings while perfectly preserving the geometry of the stereo field. This allows for lossless, fully reversible panoramic rotations that don't compress the stereo image.

True Pan can be used to:

• Adjust directions in field recordings

• Easily shift sonic perspectives of fx-rich, layered stereo instrument patches (e.g. in Alchemy synth)

• Apply panning to recordings that are rich in
ambience or reverb

• Explore a new dimension of positional
reverberation

• Add subtle motion to, or "liven up"
omnidirectional sounds

•Add a dynamic spatial quality to arpeggiated or rhythmic stereo parts (using the tempo sync
feature)

•Aid and speed up workflows for regular or
exploratory/experimental multi-mic setups

• Apply stronger modulation for sound design and creative uses (creating chiptune, flutter and glitch effects)

When used as a post-processor for reverbs, True Pan can provide higher temporal density and smoothness than what pre-panned reverb inputs would allow. This directly translates to a better quality, but can also be viewed as a different physical setup of the sound source and the listener in relationship to the boundaries of the acoustic space. Thus it opens up additional degrees of freedom in positioning. The plugin's approach to quality preservation is best demonstrated by its ability to transform processed audio back to its original state, by applying a reverse rotation.
The included stereo spread controls incorporate features that aim to minimize volume fluctuations by adapting to the actual input signal and its M/S gain distribution, including a fully dynamic adaptive mode, and a snapshot-based one.

PLEASE NOTE:
• An Audio Unit v3 compatible host app is required to use this plugin
• Dual mono inputs from two microphones need to be converted to a single stereo signal in order to be processable

  • The description is over my head but Spatializer makes everything sound better so I’m buying this.

  • This is a cool plug in. The dev knows what he's doing, really paid huge attention to detail here and the sound quality is excellent.

  • @Gavinski +1 and he really cares too

My app grabbing mania was nicely under control for almost a full 2 days. Then I discovered Strokes, and now this. Fell hard today.

  • He really does Doug, great dev! > @thesoundtestroom said:

  • Oh definitely getting this. I’ve been wanting a dedicated app for panning for a while now and I’ve heard great things about Spatializer.

  • Anyone know if this app also works on desktop with GarageBand and Logic Pro as an Audio Unit?

  • Bought this tonight, partly off the back of how useful (and high quality) Spatializer is, and it’s living up to my hopes. It really works very well for spatial panning, and does very nice things through Pro Logic II, even with virtual rears. I’m looking forward to trying it on a system with real rears this weekend.

I’ve developed a bit of an obsession with spatial effects and immersion, and in the absence of true surround mixing on iOS, this fills a gap. Plus much of what it does works well in plain stereo and on headphones. Can’t believe he’s only charging a fiver for it. Is this an intro price?

Curious about that too. Probably gonna get it tonight just on the off chance it is. I believe Spatializer is on sale right now as well right?

It may well be - I haven’t looked in the sales thread for a few days, but I think I saw something about it being reduced on FB.

  • For what my opinion is worth. +1 for the app, and +1 for the dev who kindly added me as a beta test user in the days leading up to release. I didn't find anything I didn't like about it, and look forward to the reviews on Youtube.

  • bigups Zoltan.
quite unique takes on sound in space.

  • Tru pan or Pana?

    Thanks waka_x

Been meaning to buy a panner app.

    Still unsure.

Dont usually like adding competitor apps to app launches.

but I guess its all about buying best app.

I found a great short demo, a massage for the ears.
Very good app, testing it and love it.

  • Were going to keep pana and True pan but cant really justify buying both for subtle sound difference.

True Pan wins for tactike sweeps also

but it cant be 360 automated because Drambo dosent have 360 encoders.

Automation can drive you mad though.

  • Clever stuff this, I got twinges of motion sickness from spinning some of my binaural recordings around earlier…

  • Here is my video for True Pan

I hope you enjoy the video and it gives you a general idea of what it can do😊

    Hi sigma79,

Could you please expand on this? If this is about creating an automation envelope for seamlessly wrapping around the -180/180 mark, you can try to make it work by moving the control points at the jump discontinuity closer together. The plugin will detect fast transitions and will interpret it as a continuous angular motion.

This was a huge hurdle to overcome during development (as the AU standard doesn't support it), and different host apps exhibited various differences. A lot of time and effort went into this feature, so if you were describing this exact scenario, hopefully it can be resolved.

BTW: Pana and True Pan may have completely different uses. When provided with a stereo input, True Pan makes use of the contained spatial information. The plugin originally had an audio/mixing engineer-oriented feature set with various quality guarantees. Hopefully this could be clarified to a greater extent with upcoming demos or supplemental information.

    Cheers!

    Are you kidding?

Just modulate the ‘Direction’ parameter with a uni-polar LFO using a ramp up for clockwise and ramp down for counter-clockwise motion…

Absolutely! I have a lot of time for Zoltan and his apps.

  • Does this app have any presets?

  • Doesn't come with any but you can save setup in AUM.
There is an online user guide. The terminology is specialised, best thing to do is just listen to it on Doug's video.

Ha. I couldn't help myself and took the bait.
I have no clue what it's doing but whatever it is I like it. The first thing I did was to load up Radio Zone Unit set to Soma FM Drone zone. Then on to tweaking knobs and comparing with the app on and off. Awesome sauce! It's amazing how much life can be added to ambient drones that I already thought were terrific. I mean seriously - wow.

  • Took the plunge on this and gotta echo everyone else here, it’s absolutely fantastic. Makes me really want Spatializer as well. I can see myself getting plenty of use out of this one. Probably my favorite effect app of the year so far.

Right?? It’s great. Is radio zone a website or an app I missed? I use the Beepstreet one usually.

  • Nice! Looks like a very simplified "clone" of the desktop plugin WaveArts Panorama 7.
