I’ve had a spring clean. Managed to cut my music making apps down.. for now.
These managed to survive the cull. Basically can do everything I want I think… not quite digital minimalism, but I feel more streamlined.. at least on the iPad, not so much on the waistline.

No FM synth?
Some of my all time favorites there but I couldn’t imagine whittling mine down that much haha. Surprisingly it has the opposite effect on me. I like having an abundance of choices.
Glad to see Borderlands made the cut. It’s still my favorite app to this day. Gauss and Fundamental are up there too. I think I’d need at least one FM synth though.
Are you doing everything within AUM including mastering/mixing?
Also I need to finally fully dive into Wotja. It seems great.
don't know much about them... should I? They make me think of the 80s and I don't like doing that!!
I don't know enough about FM I have to say. Isn't it all a bit jan hammer?
yep yep yep!! For the little mixing and mastering I do.
me too... honestly I use it mainly for sampling
What about FM as a modulation source, destination, effect?
I know nothing about this! Could it be a whole new world!?
Effectively managing the digital gas waistline is good practice.
Oh yes, Drambo 😉

Damn son, you're making Samu look like a hoarder! That must have been a pretty brutal cull!
From that selection I've only got 7 apps installed (FAC Alteza, AUM, Drambo, Koala, Model D, Model 15 & Rozeta).![:sunglasses: :sunglasses:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/sunglasses.png)
I don't count Apple Music app as it's part of the system
But yes, reducing the app-flora does have advantages and the cliche filled quote 'limitations spark creativity' does have some truth to it...
...if I was to reduce to the max I'd mostly likely be using just Drambo & SunVox and some 'daw' to slap everything in to.
I reckon I can probably lose bubbles too from my list.
I think Drambo is probably 'all' someone really needs, but other things are nice to have
I'd still miss SunVox being the chip-nutter that I am...
Since Drambo doesn't yet have any wave-table creation tools (the Wave Effects are out of this world though) I use two samplers in SunVox to create my own wave-tables by doing some finger-painting and merging the frames into one long wave-table that I can import into Drambo. (Ie. I play the frame I'm drawing, when I'm happy I paste it into the other sampler, once all frames are there I export the sample and import it into Drambo).
The thought call would be to not have any 'DAW' available on the iPad (BM3, Cubasis, GarageBand etc.) and I love Gadget 2 too much to let it go... (I'm a sucker for the 'Korg Sound').
But yes, less apps helps me focus.
After this and @dendy's even more minimalist take, I'm fully expecting an OG to post the ultimate screenshot with just Drambo in it.
Woah
I’m with both of you guys. I at one point had DRambo and only that with a couple AUV3 (drum and instrument [eg piano]) and Then I realized what same said, and while it’s sort of like the best all around groove box and tool, I needed a DAW, and it was he that convinced me after seeing his posts BM3 would be perfect and he’s right. DRambo+BM3+ Synthmaster 2 is all most people would need.
(Cubasis 3 is still the most powerful and full feature packed DAW but it’s pricey and I think the BM3 interface is nicer)
It's the opposite of culling for me. Every time I add more it just breaks my flow, so I go back to SunVox for writing and mix down and AEM for mastering.
Am hoping to incorporate Lemur to be able to control multiple parameters in one pass more easily. And fruity for more sophisticated sample prep. We will see!
Imo, FM is one of the most versatile synthesis types. It can definitely sound very Hammer and very 80s but it’s also amazing for sonic experimentation. Eno used almost only FM synths for a lot of his early ambient albums. It can be a lot to wraps your head around but it’s a must for me to at least have a couple of FM synths around.
@sevenape : Jan Hammer made his bones via mini moog and other mostly analog synths. First w Mahaviahnu orchestra, then Jeff Beck then Miami Vice . Used a lot of Korg synths. Never an FM guy
Thank you…was about to post a long rant but noticed your post first 🤣
I was also under the impression that Eno was a tape loops and modular guy til the 80s
I’ll probably pick Buttersynth up, as I’ve been waiting a long time for release. That being said, lately I’ve been feeling foolish at the amount of apps I’ve purchased, since being on this forum. Very picky these days…

No significant problems with BM3? I've had fairly frequent crashes, and at one point at the point of any attempted launch it would buzz noisily and freeze. A reinstallation fixed the buzz-freeze problem, but I am still tring to figure out makes it hiccup. It may have choked on too lengthy of a sample? I really want to have it working reliably...
Out of curiosity…what all did you get rid of?
He definitely used lots of tape loops but he was all about FM in the 80s. Starting with Ambient 4 maybe?
various romplers, audulus, filterjam, dawnbeat (that didn't last long at all), zeeon, tap delay, animoog z, Filterjam, mlfo, the spectrum bundle and more!
Well that's me told!! Ok not him, but you can guess what I mean even if I'm totally wrong and ignorant!
that's interesting!
Maybe this is too:

Haven't tried it, but there are iOS synths, that can import them, right?
They're free by the way
oooh!
