Looks like you are going out of your way to offend me.

I think they were referring to the photo of the pooch that just showed up in the thread.

OK. I'll change my comment to reflect that.

My gut tells me that the AudioBus forum reached its prime some time ago and it's all downhill from there on forward..

I have only been a member here for a few months but have to agree with Samu, In the short time that I have been here its definitely gone downhil, ridiculous bickering over trivial shit, too many hall monitors delving out their opinions

  • Amateur opinion: if we want the mods to allow more topics, it'll probably help to show that we can disagree with each other without throwing shade or insulting one other.

    Yes. I think that’s a great idea.

What would you know FATHEAD. Keep your STUPID OPINIONS to yourself, you gumboot wearing NAZI. Idiots like you make me PIG-BITING MAD. Bring back the NOOSE! Curb your DOG! Eat more VEGATABLES!

    Joke....sorry, couldn't resist

  • Too much options will become choice anxiety.
Applying constraint and limits is the foundatiom of amy creative process.
Yes we all have gas. But we can pick one or two , hit audio record and go.

How about you take your own medicine and just ‘let it go’?

I remember the time many many years ago when you were a mod... teaming up with McD and bullying through the day... it was disgusting to watch, and the main reason I decided to deregister at the time... first you were above it all, then it was humour that no one else understands... and then just humour...
Note how in my original response I wrote ‘doing it for amusement’
You see, there are people like NeuM (sorry to single you out) who I know I will probably disagree with just about anything, but I can appreciate their ‘in your face’ style, because it’s easy to recognise and decide whether to interact with or just move by... well, you are not like them... you’re way sneakier... of course you didn’t mean any of this to happen, just like many times before... just drop few carefully curated words here and there, move back and watch the kettle boil.
You may genuinely think that it’s all harmless, but it’s clearly not...
Many people left or were forced to... and it was all fine as long as you could take part - directly or indirectly - in selecting who the undesirables are... now your favourite playground is shutting down and you have no control over it... so, just let it go.

I’m going to initiate a “Group DM” for a general daily discussion we can check in on and add to. If you would like to be addressed DM me. We can start tomorrow. As we add/delete members we can Adjust the attendees until we get a stable quorum.

UPDATE: Message groups seem to be limited to 5 max.

Well, it’s always interesting to hear how someone really feels. I’m glad you got that out. Powerfully opinionated people that love to debate never see themselves as the bully.

I wonder if that can be raised, I’m sure it used to be more, though I was aware of it when we were getting the Metropolis thing going and realised we couldn’t add more bodies in the room…

  • Persuasion is an art and like all arts it benefits from consistent practice. Practicing in a safe environment is appreciated by those seeking the outlet. It’s hard to let an effective outlet go without
Comment. But if there’s a backlog of hurt bystanders I can appreciate the concern that more injury will be handed out.

Are there more that would like to comment on toxic aspects of this forum because honestly there just isn’t one that’s better for general musical community… on most there’s too many people with something to sell and that’s not the case here.

I like to read the comments of folks that throw out a new perspective and see if they have been contributing in ways I didn’t notice.

Interesting turn of phrase. The spin doctor's version of "stubborn, opinionated people who love to argue"..?

Almost makes them sound noble.

  • I wrote this long impassioned comment and realized it has nothing to do with music making.

  • edited April 2023

What a limited thing music making looks like when all human conversation about it is reduced to, you know, discussion about music making. Almost like music making is something which exists apart from the world, just a matter of scales and techniques and devices. I’ve clearly been doing it all wrong up till now. It’s obviously far less interesting than I thought it was.

Oh - and a permitted space to memorialise dead musicians. That’s still allowed. And seems strangely apt, somehow.

  • It's the 'chit-chatter' that creates a healthy and living community.

I've been part of real-life photography groups and less than 5% of the conversations that take place is about the gear and actual pictures that have been taken, compare this to music or noises that have been created.

The main focus there was more or less on 'how and what to create' and 'how we're all coping with the hurdles that life throws up in our path' but that's another whole topic.

Sooner or later if the social interaction aspect is ignored this forum will likely turn into an advertisement ground for app & content-releases.

It's happened more than once that I've though about leaving this place for good...

    Cheers!

You have made a big difference in the conversations that center on music making and especially the history of music making app technology over the last 30+ years. Who can speak to the history of “Trackers” and such like you can? You also can quickly spot missing features that a new app should consider adding.

    Except...

    • my feelings have no room in place like this, however they may be received
    • the powerfully opinionated person either realises the effect - in which case it’s just mean - or a self-centred narcissist who may need external help to stop

I too think that discussion about your book, movie, game, Apple and many other topics could be allowed... which is why I suggested off topics to be opened by mods only... these measures IMO are about drawing a line, to make it easier to see where things go wrong... I could even see them starting a self healing... get warned once or twice then see the door... you can’t do any of that if all rules are up for interpretation. At one point we will start to self correct, ignore those who only ignite... decide whether we want to debate more or participate.

  • Looks like a new forum called "other" has been created. So basically the new off topic.

I’m glad you explained your thinking on the current events discussions. I have been wrestling with your calling me out as a bully with the OP here and I get your points with respect to those threads.

My daughter refuses even read, watch or talk about politics. She could be in a majority that hopes for the best.

Politics as the exercise of power and anyone good at it is someone’s bully. Can’t be helped really because we all know we are powerless alone.

Be well and keep sharing how it feels to you. I learn this way.

These type of posts don’t come often or easy to me, so I won’t make it a habit :)
I can relate to your daughter as I can’t listen to my older relatives about any of these topics either.
Like in life, the powerfully opinionated people got their way... again... have my doubts but I can live with this decision... much easier than knowing that I have shat on someone’s table.
    Let’s hope for the best!

(sh!t... it was this close this time... :))
