Hand Clapper - Claps Synth by AudioThing (Released)

  • About to give this one a shot. Looks weird and niche which is right up my alley.

  • If anyone wants some homebrew hand clap samples I have a folder of them here, recorded with my own fair hands. The room is reflective so there is some natural reverb on these:

  • Got it and tried it out for 30 mins or so and…it’s fun! You can get some pretty cool stuff going once you load in your own samples, and the addition of the extra snare, modular noise, etc samples adds to the variety as well. I see this in 2 ways. 1 as a cool clap/percussion synth and 2 as a weirdly niche sampler.

I didn't realise but this app (the desktop version) is 7 years old. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Actually, it's surprisingly cool. Loading your own samples can lead to really interesting results.

I'm sure it's fine, it's just not what I've been waiting for them to deliver.

So, simply said, you can also use it as a sample playback, even without fx?

Yes though only loads the first 2 seconds of any sample, so it's definitely not going to replace your regular sampler apps. What if does have though is a lot of control over what gets randomised, the nice control over number of repeats and how spaced out they are etc.

  • No exact control over sample start time which is a bit of a pity, but at least it has a decay knob.

    Ok, thanks.

  • No drag and drop either, but it can import samples directly into the auv3, including from audioshare

  • Actually, samples can be up to 6 seconds, but decay only goes up to 2 seconds

  • Here is my video for Hand Clapper

I think this is pretty useful, I hope you enjoy the video😊👍

As soon as you put Mantis on that one track Doug it absolutely slapped (clapped?)!

    Who needs Claps?!
    Where are the COWBELLS??????????

  • @ghost_forests yes, it definitely benefits from effects

Yeah, screw claps. Seriously, I would love if they put out an app that did Claves, Maracas, Cowbell, and Rim Shot from the Roland X0X series.

I will not buying it as it is not a useful tool it must be a free one but not at price target AudioThing are. You certainly have a tool , not only Drambo, to do that , not worth a buying. You can also use your hands , sample with a sampler you have it and play with Fx you have. Don’t waste monney.

It is hard to earn monney actually and I will advised you to save your monney to more interesting apps coming, this one is just a pricey toy .

As state a toy as it is compared to other apps and to tell the true if it was free I will say to my 10 years old nephew to do load into play with it. Even free I will not use myself such a toy.

The price is at the moment you write this unknown, but if it’s in the same range as Bubbles or Things then it’s cheap.
But anyway as said, I would like to hear some samples of imported sounds running through this thing.

It is not expensive but I can’t buy all the iOS apps that are not for my use just to stock apps and reward a good dev. I can’t see any interest for my way of doing music so I give up.

  • Now this is nice, I love it

  • Very interested in this, seems like it would be cool for any one shot, drum or otherwise…

  • Pffft… totally missed the influencer marketing angle by not cobranding with Deadmau5

    😂

Very useful, especially if you don’t want to always have to carry your hands around

This may be my favourite ABF post ever.

And your response is now one of my favorite responses ever, haha.

(Preferable certainly to the "what on God's green f*#@ are you talking about" type of response, which I won't deny is usually deserved.)

  • cost less than a large latte. ran a few instances in AUM. Hooked up the launch control XL to turn some knobs. fun was had.

I keep losing them in my pockets.

Haha, me too. And that's always the last place I look when I misplace them.

I agree. Sample import is where this gets creative

But what does it do? Turn your sample into a clap? Or it’s more like an effect pedal?

It has various repetition and random options. Can get very glitchy! Inbuilt sounds or you can add your own. The latter is the best part for me. That said, I could imagine ways that it could be better if it were specifically built for iOS. Hexaglyphics springs to mind.

Here I was, well on the way to a no-buy. Then Gav put the hex on me with that one word, the one that ends in glyphics. (crossing off my next coffee purchase, which extends that hiatus into Jan 2029.)

I always find myself falling all over again for anyone or thing that reminds me of my first love. (That would be a reference to Hexaglyphics, not the esteemed Gav -- who is a cheeky charmer in his own right I'm sure.)
Anyway, it is kind of fun. I'm going to use it to beef up the sound of audience approval on some of my few live recordings.

  • I got the clap.

But are you still going to buy this app? ;)

  • 5 instances of this synth being fed rhythms from a “Drum Circle” Mozaic script.
See if you can detect the 5 distinct Clap presets I choose. That ratchit-ing is built into 1 of the 5.

Honestly an all in one app just for those extra percussive sounds with this amount of control would be an instabuy for me.

Great example of what this app can do! Gonna try and make as close to a full track using only this app as I can.

Fair enough. I’d suggest watching Doug’s video and a couple others just to see what the app can do first. It’s definitely much more than just claps, though it does those very well.

  • A little sequencer would have been a nice touch.
