Before I dive in does this have the tuned/velocity/ limiter/bounce sample etc… settings like the desktop version? Under the More button? On iOS it has the random, then the save then the hamburger menu, I’m hoping it’s behind the hamburger…?

Tuned lets you play it across a keyboard, pitched out. At least that’s in the Audiothing video for desktop version. Thanks in advance.

Actually, samples can be up to 6 seconds, but decay only goes up to 2 seconds

That is great to know, cause I was thinking what about open hats, rides, etc…

  • I tried the “Online Manual” in the app and nothing surfaces… I tried in standalone and AUv3 too.
So, I Googled and found this pdf link:

    https://www.audiothing.net/docs/AudioThing_Hand_Clapper.pdf

  • Thank you @HotStrange I’m grabbing this, I like the simplicity, but also its ability to fiddle and load samples.

Oh one last thing, is it .wav only for import files? Or have you tried an mp3, etc…

  • Sorry, couldn’t resist…

  • Lol @MadeofWax whose going to sample the commercial first, lol.

I actually haven’t tried anything else yet. Most of mine are already .wav files but I’ll see if I can get something going with it. It’s definitely a cool app, I’m liking it a lot.

  • I was skeptical at first, but tomorrow I'll purchase this little app? Looks like a lot of fun to play with in a live AUM setup.

Actually, it's surprisingly cool. Loading your own samples can lead to really interesting results.

I agree. Sample import is where this gets creative

But what does it do? Turn your sample into a clap? Or it’s more like an effect pedal?

It has various repetition and random options. Can get very glitchy! Inbuilt sounds or you can add your own. The latter is the best part for me. That said, I could imagine ways that it could be better if it were specifically built for iOS. Hexaglyphics springs to mind.

Here I was, well on the way to a no-buy. Then Gav put the hex on me with that one word, the one that ends in glyphics. (crossing off my next coffee purchase, which extends that hiatus into Jan 2029.)

I always find myself falling all over again for anyone or thing that reminds me of my first love. (That would be a reference to Hexaglyphics, not the esteemed Gav -- who is a cheeky charmer in his own right I'm sure.)
Anyway, it is kind of fun. I'm going to use it to beef up the sound of audience approval on some of my few live recordings.

Haha! But here I was saying it could be more like Hexaglyphics if it were actually built for touch screen - but it's not really. Still - the sounds can take you in that direction 😁

  • I do wish that

    a) the pad itself was velocity sensitive - even if you change velocity in settings, the pad will just play at fixed velocity, forcing you to use something else - Xequence Pads or Keys AU, for example, to actually play it with velocity. Bizarre oversight in my opinion.

    b) could there be a way to, for example, turn on linear velocity and tuning and keep those settings as general settings that apply to all presets? Otherwise, you need to adjust them every single time.

    c) Another slight frustration for me is the way the menu works. If velocity is disabled, you press on 'disabled' and then the menu closes. But then you have to actually open the menu again to go in an choose soft, linear or hard. It's a bit time-wasting imo.

I agree to all 3 of these. It would make the app just that much better. Especially with points 1&3

100% - I have passed these comments on to the dev. I recommend that others do too, as this is the only way to get developers to improve. Cheers!

The most annoying thing about the pad not being velocity sensitive is that even if you do use something else, the pad - beautiful as it is - is just stuck there wasting valuable screen real-estate. The lack of velocity sensitivity there is an absolute head-scratcher to me, genuinely irritating. Even for desktop users with a mouse or trackpad, I think they would want velocity sensitivity there. The pad could just be so much more of a performative tool. Currently, it is more like window dressing.

It is strange to have the pad that big when it does nothing but trigger the notes. I think it’d be cool to set different velocity responses on different points of the pad as well. So far left to far right increase velocity. I’ll shoot them a message about it as well.

Yeah... I suggested something similar a while ago and didn't get a very promising response, but maybe if more people speak up 🤷‍♂️ . It's absolutely ridiculous to have a pad this size that has basically no interesting features whatsoever. Looks gorgeous... But...it is totally a case of form over function and a huge missed opportunity to make a better app.

  • I like the randomize feature that provides pitch shifting as a nice alternative to “Round Robben”.

This app is best for short percussive samples and not as as a one shot unless you need this 1 inch by 6 inch blue pad because Koala’s PADs might make you miss and play the wrong sound.

The real downside is if you want to build something like a drum kit… you’d burn up 4-6 lanes in AUM and make that user interface really wide for a project with 4-5 lanes just for drums. But maybe that’s good for you to control volume, tone, reverb for each part.

Anyway for $4 I wanted to show AudioThing more revenue since I’m enjoying most of their work so far.

A little and nervous and worried that I might not be able to applaud in a hurry.

I’ve generally had pretty good luck with AudioThing apps, so I’m sure this one will hold out okay in the end. Let’s hope so.

  • I've found them pretty solid. And I do 'like' the big pad, it's just that it could clearly benefit from doing more than it does.

For automated ratchet percs, hats, one shot sampler. Love this lil fella.

I think I subconsciously gatekept this by always telling people it was called clap machine (honestly thought it was called that)

On sale now, those videos are meh- you can do some sticky- stickity stick sounds. Who doesn’t love that?

One template uses Thump on one channel, two clap machines one with a snare, one with a hat, and then I make the most disgusting snare in chowmix.

    Industrial boom bap
