  • Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead

  • Folks did appreciate my old bands name…..

  • Some tribute band names that always made smile when I saw them on local posters. I talk in the past tense because most if not all of the venues have closed :(

    Barry Garlow
    Pete Loaf
    Reet Hot Chili Peppers

  • Send More Paramedics

  • I know many. Most are not suitable for polite conversation!

My favourite though is probably We butter the bread with butter

  • In the later 80s there was a band called The Deadly Hume.

(the Hume Highway out of Sydney was notorious for fatal accidents)

  • Machine Gun Fellatio.

  • Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard (doom band from Wrexham)
    Sheep On Drugs (noisy electronica)
    Spaceslug (Polish? doom)
    Twinkle Brothers (reggae)
Ffa Coffi Pawb (Griff Rhys’s early band) - bilingual pun, literal translation is “everyone’s coffee beans”, but say it out loud knowing “i pawb” is Welsh for “(to) everyone”.
Tomatomatic - was a local funk rock band I once saw in a pub

  • Roast Beast
    Bi Furious

  • An older drummer I know is in two cover bands with mates of a similar age to him. Oldplay and Silverhair.

  • New Tokyo Sex Whale

  • Bathchair Suicide. John Peel loved their name.

  • Men Without Hats, especially in combination with the title of their best-of album, The Greatest Hats.

I wish they had named the album Top Hats, which would have been even better.

  • The Goddamn Lunts

  • Desiray Laser West and the Beta Vibes

Four of my favourite bands are Gaye Bykers On Acid, Butthole Surfers, Chicks On Speed, Man or Astro-man?

Couple of punk bands from the 90s I remember were Lawnmower Deth and Dogshit Sandwich.

Love that Half Man Half Biscuit and Sheep On Drugs have already been mentioned. Has anyone said Throbbing Gristle yet?

  • The famous Pearl Jam performance on PinkPop:

Urban Dance Squad in the early years:
