MiRack may turn out to be an unlimited synthesizer, but I don't know if it can handle the rap genre
splat to chat. Drambo. Koala.
Dont have stc though.
I believe a lot of the kits Splat to Clat are good for something called Boom Bap or Trap
There are no specific Daw for a music style so choses what fit you as Daw , Cubasis 3 can be a good choice as you got good effect and beats with quite cheap IAP and it handle right audio and Midi ( nano studio daw is not for Rap as you cannot record your voice so Cubasis is a good deal).
Cubasis effects are ok if you begins.
An other approach is to go for a more groovebox approach with better sounds like BeatHawk and buy specific package for Trap , Rap and Hip hop it is not a daw but you can produce quicker results for Hip Hop and Rap for sure and Trap it is ok.
Groovebox It is the quickest way to do music on iOS for these style of music if you want be into and quick results, particularly for a beginners and it is less expensive that to buy many iOS apps.
GarageBand. Hands down.
I would say Beatmaker 3 if you are techie in needs and ability. But its not had an update in a fair while.
or (if not techie) I’d say Garageband or Cubasis3.
All those run plugins, and do audio tracks.
A video on GaragebandGuide i saw recently https://youtu.be/68sHx-CRTXU
Shows Garageband has some damn fine arrangement tools
Right to begin GarageBand will do the job, it is free , easy to use and Yuit got all what you need for what you do. No need to invest monney except in basic harware good cable , a microphone and a cheap but good sound interface and you got your first studio for $200 , hardware is an option as to do Rap you need to record your voice.
Not Beatmaker 3 , avoid it as it is not easy to use and it seems to have no support anymore for years.
But it's still the best sampler based sample-based beat making app available for the iPad...
...it uses the Elastic libraries to do it's time-stretching and even though it's not had an update for ages it still works quite well.
Just avoid using AudioKit based AUv3's with it...
I would recommend NanoStudio 2 and its built-in instruments and FX for quickly making beats, without having to worry about CPU usage...unless you are using a lot of audio loops, because it doesn't have audio tracks. It also doesn't allow you to automate AU effects; only AU instruments, and built-in effects and instruments. You can use AU effects, you just can't automate their parameters.
NS2 has arguably the best MIDI editor, which means it has a very fast and simple workflow. It also has a great built-in synth and drum sample player, each with a lot of presets.
For recording vocals, I would bounce the instrumental to Cubasis 3, and record vocals there. You could try the piano roll in Cubasis 3 and see if it works for you, but the one in NanoStudio 2 is definitely better.
Loopy Pro might be worth checking out if you like the "looper workflow" of recording everything live and unquantized. It doesn't have any MIDI editing capabilities yet.
Here's a video from the YouTube channel "iPad Beat Making" where he makes a beat using NanoStudio 2.
Now that you are lost with all that daws and apps the best first is to watch some tutorials videos on YouTube about each Daws and Loopy pro before buying anything and see pro and cons and what fit your needs.
The best is to have an all in one system to begin, for what you want to do stay in the same app to learn and enjoy music and many famous Hip Hop or Rap people use a Groovebox apps not a linear Daw.
So look also aacaxYouTube demo à BeatHawk as this groovebox have the best sounds pack for what you do and offer a BeatMaker 3 style but far more easy to use.
Do music not tech.
Koala is a must have for any hip hop producer. Its ease of use, sequencing, sample chopping, FX etc are among the best on both iOS and desktop software. Get the samurai pack and unlock all the features, still very cheap, maybe 15$ total.
Splat to Clat is packed full of loops, one shots, etc targeted for boom bap, lofi, hip hop etc. They sound really good, and are highly tweakable, easy to use. Great starting point for those genres.
BeatHawk
These genres can only be created in Beatmaker 3.
For lofi hip hop use Koala
For 80s synth wave and modular ambient use Drambo
For edm and techno use FL Studio Mobile
For music tutorial videos use Cubasis 3
To impress other iPad producers with what can be done with just garage band, use GarageBand
😉
Forgot to add: Never use Nanostudio 2 because it doesn’t have audio tracks and also never use Auxy because it is subscription
The level of power that one sampler track has is a lot like a modern MPC.. every pad has its own LFOs, Envelopes, Filters, Multiple Plugin slots and a Mixer.. and much more. loads more. You'll never use it all.
You could actually do this in Cubasis (no idea on garage band).. by setting up a Sampler plug in per track and do some midi filtering some way to sequence all those tracks from one midi track.. but its a pain.
Well over a year ago I read they were currently concentrating on desktop versions before doing more on the IOS version.
I doubt they have given up on it though. It's rated 4.7 out of 5 on App Store.
But if a person is more of the direction concerned about simply laying down some lyrics to a beat, getting the arrangement right.. nah.. don't get beat maker 3, try GarageBand cos its free.
Plop in a drum machine, sequence the beats, bassline.. track vocals. tweak arrangement. Jobs a good un.
Welcome newcomer to the humble ABF forum, where you'll get a variety of solid answers to your questions from the friendly regulars here.
That said, I want to answer your question, but first I need to narrow down a few things.
First of all, what Apple device(s) do you intend to use?
Second of all, what kind of workflow are you looking for? Are you shooting for a traditional DAW set-up for adding vocals to already-made beats and stems? Are you looking more for an MPC-styled workflow? Are you planning to cook some beats and spit fire over them? Let us know what you want for a workflow.
Third of all, are you looking more for an all-in-one environment, or are you looking for something that can host plugins?
Fourth of all, are you a beginner who's new to producing your Hip-Hop genres of choice? Are you more of an intermediate producer or advanced? Tell us your backstory in production if you have one.
Yup, it is all about the users ability and expectations.
not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but you can absolutely make any genre with koala, especially any hip hop genre. load up an 808 kit and some trap one shots and your good to go. technically you could even record vocals, although admittedly its probably much easier using beatmaker 3 in a linear fashion.
Hello
iphone/ipad but I would like the app to be available for both devices.
Rather traditional DAW I currently use Koala Sampler for drums but my biggest problem is synths,
Standard GarageBand synths are not suitable for rap and have a small range of modifications.
I started my adventure with music a few years ago in Caustic 3 but had a break and now I want to start again.
I'm most looking for something similar to Omnisphere on Ios, I'm considering MiRack.
Makes sense. I'm the same way. I often like to start a project on my iPhone and finish it up on my iPad.
I'd definitely recommend Cubasis 3 since it can host plugins and is pretty damn close to a traditional DAW.
Beatmaker 3 is not universal sad to say since it's like a souped up MPC, can host plugins, etc. And its sampler section is simply untouchable in terms of sheer options you can use to manipulate a sample!
NS2 lacks audio tracks, although it's my favourite to produce instrumental beats on (and I've produced vocal productions in NS2 too, but in conjunction with Cubasis 3). NS2 can host plugins although for whatever reason you can't automate AUv3 effects in it, which is a shame. Plus its built-in synth is more than capable of handling various synthesiser methods (from subtractive, FM, etc).
FL Studio Mobile doesn't host AUv3 plugins, but it has lots of great built-in synths and effects, easy-to-navigate menus, IAPs, etc. I loved producing Lo-Fi in it on my iPhone, but it can handle a myriad of genres.
Koala Sampler isn't just great for drums but also for whole tracks as well. I've produced a couple LoFi projects and a couple Ambient projects in Koala Sampler standalone.
For synths, I'd recommend Buttersynth that just released. I'd also recommend a rompler like Korg Module Pro and Beathawk 3 (which can be used as a rompler) as well as Pure Synth Platinum 2 (which was built by HipHop producers FOR HipHop producers).
AH! There is another app to consider called Korg Gadget 2. It's not your typical DAW, and its timeline goes from top-to-down rather than left-to-right, but it has really great drums and synths in it for producing beats that can be exported as-is OR you can export stems into Cubasis 3. It's similar to Caustic 3 in that the gadgets in Gadget 2 are mini synths and romplers, but its timeline is very much loop-based (although there are always workarounds to make an app do what you want).
And with Gadget, over time you can purchase external Korg apps that are compatible within Gadget and their IAPs as well as Gadget's own IAPs. And through Bilbao (which sadly is IAP) you can use your drum samples, although lots of the drums in Gadget are well suited to beatmaking.

This EP was produced in Gadget 2 and mastered live in AUM (but I don't recommend AUM at the moment).
When you mean Omnisphere, do you mean you want to be able to tweak it, or do you want a ton of presets at your disposal?
Ummmm apps for trap and hiphop…
LoFi and boom bap hiphop—koala, bm3, gadget, zenbeats, and garageband…
Trap- bm3, gadget, zenbeats, and garageband
If it was me…I’d say invest in yourself and get a new MPC or the Force
The iPad don’t even begin to bang as hard as these…plus MPC/force has the proper toolset for these genres
I’d you’re familiar with Madlib (one of the all time great producers) he works with only an iPad now and used GarageBand a good bit. I think maybe BM3 and Koala as well. Those would be my suggestions. And I’d add Beathawk in there too.
Also Dawnbeat. It’s more or less a clone of the SP404/303 workflow which Dilla and tons of others have used. And it can host AU synths and effects.
Hasn’t it only been around a year since the last update?
Last BM 3 update was 2 years time version 3.0.15 for such a software quite high price it is a critical state and a sign that no dev care more about it.
Hmm I wouldn’t go that far. My favorite app Borderlands hasn’t had an update in 2 years and was recently announced a new one was coming. From what I understand BM3 still works well (haven’t broken it out in some months) but it may just simply not need an update at the moment.
I agree but in some way BM3 is not a synth app plugin it is more in line with daw like Cubasis , NS2 so it is important for people , particularly pro, to know about the future of BM3 I don’t know if there are some news about.
You don’t need specific apps to make genre relevant sounds. Music comes from within. What you need is some high quality apps. Cubasis 3 is the best traditional DAW by a long way and if you have a powerful phone or iPad and engage multi-core processing - that’s the most powerful music making experience available on iOS. MixBox for quality rack FX, Fabfilter for pro quality processing - and for synths watch some YouTube tutorials on synthmaster 2, buttersynth,DRC, Alpha, Omega, Megalit….see what sizzles your sausage
As I state , a daw is not related to a music style , many people think that as famous musician prefer a daw rather than other , like Martin Garrick prefer FL studio desks top only because he like the GUI and perhaps invest many time to learn so on travel he will use FL studio mobile nothing to do with his music style.
This is true but I don’t think it’s abandoned. At least I hope not. I don’t use it much anymore but it’s still very powerful and a really cool app.
>
Buttersynth is not compatible with iphone, any alternatives?
Pure platinum synth is broken, everything works fine but I can't add any internal effects.
thanks I will have to check this app out, seems good on Youtube videos

Tons of Presets at my disposal But it would be nice if I could also get them tweak
