is there a way to turn off the quantizing?
@kobamoto do you mean grid mode? Touching the "grid" icon switches to "flex" (which slices at transients).
You can edit the slice points (in either mode) when you touch "edit slices" - with the "plus" and "cross" icons (split and merge, respectively) or you can move the slice points (and there's no quantisation or snapping) by touching the orange lines above the cross icons.
thanks will try that, wanting to try out the latch sequencing without the grid,
has anyone seen a way to delete samples?
Hi there! I'm the dev of Strom. glad you guys are having fun with it :]
delete samples: you mean from the user library? or individual slices within a sample?
It would be cool to delete an unwanted slice and not have it reabsorb into the neighboring slices.
My personal #1 feature request though is a way to make it so I can take an already selected slice that's playing out of latch mode, without having to turn latch mode
off (maybe by a long tap or something?). That way I could essentially edit the arpeggio as I go and not have to start from fresh.
edit: By the way, I gotta give extremely high praise to your bounce export feature. Found it immediately useful and it exports in perfect loops.
thanks a bunch!
ok your #1 request is in there :]
in latch mode, hold the latch btn, then tap slices you want to remove!
to delete an unwanted slice, for now you will have to do it the opposite way:
select all slices that you want to keep, then bounce.
you can use edit slices to make this easier, e.g. select grid 1 to have no slices, then edit slices, and add just two slice points for the region that you want to delete.
personally I found this sufficient, but if this request comes up more, I might implement it. I see how this could be useful with a latch sequence already playing. taken note!
cheers!
It is a bit of a puzzle. I went to bed trying to figure out some of possible slice edits and woke up thinking about it too. This is always good for a new lover, but a little too frustrating for an app. Ease of use may not be a plus point for your girlfriend, but is for new software....A short video perhaps? Aimed at the gentle souls who will will buy the app as an app, not as an extension of the hardware.
By the same token, I can see you might think it is 'good marketing' for folks to see the second page 'and all the things you could do if you had the hardware!', but for most folks it is only a vivid picture of possibilities they don't have in the app, so in an ideal (marketing
world, maybe this second page would only be activated for hardware users/upgraders...you definitely have something in terms of a standalone app here, very interesting sample interface, perhaps in small part we can help you make the most of it for a wider market...
I see your point!
may add a setting to hide the RYTM controls entirely.
up until yesterday, I have been living in anxiety as to whether Apple would even approve the app. Now that they have, things are getting much simpler for me...
there will be tutorial videos / documentation too.

Thanks! Didn't notice that before, that is wonderful! And as far as deleting unwanted segments, frankly that's not really vital for me (because of the latch mode, which rules!)
deleting sample slices is always vital for me, as well as deleting destructively so that unwanted audio can go bye bye
thank you for this app, really looking forward to some video for us non-rtym users and it doesn't have to be high quality either , just you mucking around and telling us how to do stuff will suffice , the sooner the better .
the only other request that I'd make is that you please throw a ton of interesting, organic, time shifting, randomizing, unusual fx our way that we can use during our resampling since we won't be using rytm…
-regards
Agreed as regards the video. Can understand you might want it to be a compelling sales tool, but I think for most buyers/users a simple chat as though you were sat with your iPad in front of us going through what can and be done and how to do it, would/will be great and much appreciated.
Hi. Can I ask a stupid question...
How do you get your own sample into it?
not sure what you mean exactly.
you mean samples that you have in other apps?
Strom has support for AudioCopy & AudioShare. Tap the LOAD button, choose your import method.
you can also import sounds from your Music library.
Or with apps that support "Open In...", such as Garageband, you can use that.
Currently there is no import via iTunes, but I will add this in an update.
So, who has a RYTM? Is it amazing?
^ my view on it is certainly biased - but yeah, check it out at a retailer if you get the chance. it sounds great, with a very wide sonic range... a solid piece of equipment meant for studio / live use. It certainly delivers!

It's my birthday next month, so I'm tempted to ask everyone for money and then put the rest on my credit card! I haven't really 'done' hardware before - is the experience better than using an iPad for music creation?
it's very different! quite a bit more abstract if you're used to an iPad / computer screen, while at the same time very hands on... e.g. pressing the hardware buttons feels a lot more definite and "real", which is a huge plus.
the Rytm has a learning curve as there's a lot of options, it is not for everyone. Can be frustrating in the beginning. It feels more "engineered" than "designed". But the engineering is great. Top of its class. Once you get used to it, there's no way back, for most people..
iOS apps are usually designed for easy of use & immediate fun... the Elektron UI design is different, can feel like a minefield at times, especially if you're new to something like it. Need to be careful with saving Kits/Sounds for example, everyone makes the experience of accidentally losing some work.. in the beginning at least.
But once the functionality becomes second nature / muscle-memorized, you'll be able to create killer beats real quick... compare to learning other instruments... takes practice! Elektron has been making these things for 15 years now, they know what they're doing.
If you should end up not liking it, you can sell it on with a minor loss. There is demand for it on the used market.
Ah thanks. I only had a quick look and missed the load button. Sorry - I said it was a stupid question
.
I would agree with all the above about the Rytm. I got mine a month or so ago. It was partly the announcement about Strom that tiopped me into getting it.
It's very much a "machine" and to say it feels "engineered" it exactly right. I know that there are still big sections of the OS and the interface and workflow that I haven't yet explored, and to do that will take some hard work and some sweating over the manual.
But the sounds it makes are incredible, and once you get going with it, it's a very immediate experience and very rewarding creativly and sonically.
I must say that I have wished for a long time that someone would code a drum machine for the iPad that incorporated some of Elektrons sequencing principles.
Noob question: could I connect my iPad up to it via the CCK and have the sound from music apps come through, if it's the RYTM that's outputting to my speakers?
It's so hard to think about ponying up $1,500 for a drum machine I know it's a lot more than that, but still...I stare at my old Korg N1 (which was about the same) and I still love it, but it's dust at this point....not looking for persuasion. I'm sure it's a lovely bit of kit, but, but....
@strom, after what I bought 5 minutes ago, I hope that Elektron pays you commission!
@michael_r_grant
grats!
pretty sure it was the right decision.
yea you can hook up stereo audio to the Rytm. It has a pretty flexible stereo compressor which can act on the input signal. however, the audio from the iPad may be a bit too quiet for it, better to boost it using a mixer or something before going into the Rytm.
