I agree it should open by default with the Factory bank if you don't have the IAPs, but the dev, Harry, is very responsive and v quick to respond here and to emails. It's a minor thing and IMO way out of order trashing the app for this. TP is for me is THE best sounding IOS synth I have (ID700, Drambo and Zeeon close 2nds). I just opened TP standalone and it opened on the last preset I saved in standalone mode. I'd recommend exploring and patching TP before getting the IAPs - it's very deep,

Thanks for your advice . Now I can really discover the beast in it.

  • +1 for a responsive and customer-focused dev, and for Tera Pro being one of the very best synths out there.

  • After reinstalling the app, and implementing the additional steps others mention above, I installed the app on a different iPad == a newer iPad mini with a different chip, and very slightly older version of the same operating system. The problems remained. I also did gooahead and buy a preset pack, and while all those presets seem to work, the original ones are erratic, and often produce nothing, or nothing listenable.

Sometimes a preset won't work until I add layer b, but then the sound is just a sine wave, and identical to the layer b sound on other presets.

Checking the reviews on the app store, there are one or two older ones from very livid customers who describe the same issue. So I have determined that the problem is unique to me I will acknoledge that by far most of the reviews are positive.

I may try to get a refund for the synth and the presets, just because it is not presently reliable, and as deep as it is, it may take months for me to find out if I have other problems with it. When it works it sounds fine. I've never before asked for a refund, but I have so many synths now and my sound options are so vast, I don't need this one enough to justify the purchase. The sounds are good, when they work. When they don't, it's just a frustration for me I don't want to deal with.

Thanks to the dev for responding.

Could it also be… just download too and some presets don’t make sound, but is it because they are made (partially) with IAP that we don’t have to complete the whole sound?

Maybe. Doubtful, I think. So many just sound off or not at all. The first preset makes no sound, would be an odd decision for Virsyn to make

What buffer size are you running!

Make sure you aren’t loading a bank that relies on an IAP you don’t have. I think by default it may open the Brainz IAP presets

Is there a buffer adjustment that can be made somewhere if the app is in standalone? If that buffer is set in the standalone app, obviously it should work regardless of its setting.

Please post screenshots of the presets that aren’t working for you and show us what preset folder you are browsing.

Got same problem and I am not alone , a synth must work particularly a Pro so it is not a solution to try restarting, there are a bug or something that we don’t understand as it load the normal default setting. If you need to buy IAP quite pricey to have your synth work don’t complain if people are not happy 😃.

So far now I can say it is the WORST synth that I bought far ever and doing what you advise doesn’t change a lot. For me you seems to have what it should deliver only if you got IAP thanks other dev do better work and LogicPro Alchemy come on iOS for peanut’s.

I am fed up with some such crap apps , stating it is complex routing is not a solution, I want a solution or a refund no way to argue more

I'm going to give BerlinFx no grief for being upset. The alllure of the app store is instant gratification. I remember when buying software meant a trip to a store, so it could be hours or days before you got a chance to make a buy. After that it was purchasing from individual websites.

Now you can get something in seconds. This is obviously a huge benefit to developers, in terms sales, although Apple's cut is perhaps unfair, and devs should understand that spending the next few hours after purchase to get support or puzzle out a problem is not what people expect from the app store.
I myself have hundreds of apps, many times what I would own if each were purchased from a separate website, which each required its own login procedure. The one-click process at least in my world has multiplied my purchases several fold over what they were just a couple of years ago.

Like I said there is a months-old angry complaint on the App store describing this same problem, and no response from the developer appears there, so if Virsyn has not heard of it before, that would have been one place to look.

  • @gravytop : do you have problems with any presets in the circled folders?

So, I wasn't at my iPad when I wrote earlier. So, it is not a buffer issue. My guess is that you are browsing presets for an IAP you don't have.

Tera Pro is (one of) the best iOS synth sonically speaking.
I feel embarassed for the exagerated reactions here...

Thanks @VirSyn and please keep creating other great stuffs !

    And, BTW @gravytop @BerlinFx and @RanDoM_rRay

You greatly miss something from Tera Pro, without those IAP!!!

They add whole worlds to the Synth and are strongly recommended ….

I agree, the IAPs are stellar. My advice to explore and get properly acquainted with TP before buying the IAPs was along the lines of the old saying "Don't try to run before you can walk". The spectrum oscillators and formant filters are dope, and then there's the MEG's, and modulation possibilities - getting familiar with these enhances the IAPs.

  • I had already asked for a refund. Figured it was a bug, but I’m hoping the refund requirement maybe is time usage based, and keep messing with Tera Pro, cause it IS awesome, and now I don’t wanna give it back! And yes, how silly of me, or anyone, when the first thing ANYONE DOES is try the presets and Expect them to work. Anyway, back to creating!

It is generally a good idea to ask for help/support before asking for refunds.

  • That's weird. Someone added "solved -- user error" to my post title. Was that me? Because I > @espiegel123 said:

Yes. I've gone through a few in the factory folder just now, and while they generally are producing sound, in several instances it is accompanied by a crackling atonal sound reminiscent of what sometimes occurs when iPad switches to Low Power mode.

I might post screen recordings later, but I'm spending time on this that could be put to far better use, from my perspective.

There are polyphony settings that reduce the CPU load.

What other apps do you have running?

Some users seem to suffer from a severe case of user malfunction as TeraPro has been a quite stable synth and the developer is pretty responsive in fixing issues if/when they pop up...

I have 377 Audio Unit music apps including countless synthesizers on my ipad right now, and least 100 IAA apps. And all of a sudden I can't figure out how to use one? Interesting.

I believe I have posted questions about two other synths on this forum that seemed not to be working. One problem was solved by changing buffer size in the host, and solved by useful reader input within a few hours. I then tested the first problem synth, and noticed buffer size change fixed that issue too.

I have yet to get a solution to my issue reported in this thread.

Nor do I act hastily with respect to abandoning products. I have never returned any app for refund, but I may or may not keep this one. But to suggest it is my user error that is the problem here is a claim made by someone who is ignorant whereof they speak on this matter.

  • I am likely done posting in this thread, and will patiently await further instructions by email from the developer, while I decide whether or not to return this synth as well as all IAP purchases made related to it. Thank you to all who contributed in a constructive manner. And good luck to anyone who contributed something useless or inane.
