Yeah, I noticed that as well.
Very strange.
Hopefully they’ll be releasing new iPads by the fall — if not in time for the developers conference next month…
A very good point about the RAM. Thanks for reminding me.
Look at their refurbished models. I wouldn’t buy used from a private party because when Apple refurbs they replace the battery and you can get a warranty.
Explanation for my Other choice:
There’s almost certainly a new iPad on the horizon: there was anyway (I’ve been dithering for months).
There is pretty much zero chance Logic Pro will be going anywhere near it, though.
Audiobus and then later AUM are what got me back into music making after a long period of inactivity. Specifically because they aren’t linear DAWs, which I find completely uninspiring to work with. AUM’s approach, on the other hand, is super inspiring, quick to work with, simple to integrate with hardware etc etc. If I absolutely have to use a linear DAW for something (rare), so far Harmonic Dog’s MTD does the job.
To coin a phrase I heard used by the wonderful Laurie Anderson (though in her case she was referring to Windows, IIRC), I couldn’t give a rat’s patootie about Logic. YMMV (and almost certainly does).
Also only has 4GB RAM. You'd want more for Logic, I think. Current-gen Air has 8GB but it looks like it also maxes out at 256GB for storage now that I look. Yeah, that seems very slim if you're going to start out by giving up 70GB or so of storage just for Logic and the sound library.
Yes I faced the same dilemma when buying a new iPad at the end of last year. I opted for a 1TB M1 12.9 in the end, it was a lot cheaper than the equivalent M2 model, but obviously still very expensive. I would have gone for an Air if they offered more storage.
I was already planning on upgrading before this so, yes lol.
Unfortunately LPX for iOS is ticking all the pricey boxes: processor speed, storage, and screen size.
It’s a tough sell to the Mrs, but I’m getting there…
Yep. The full bhoona. It's not going to be cheap.
Unfortunately I will need a new iPad to run it, so the question is which one?!
Wait as certainly Apple with released new IPads first and old 2022 powerful IPad drop should drop in price. And third perhaps after free trial you will not like LP iOS or say it is not for me.
It is too really to buy a new IPad
Logic is great on the Mac so I can't imagine I won't like it on the iPad if it's a decent port. Also, it will be lovely to have a machine that laughs at intensive Drambo and Loopy Pro projects! At the moment, I run up against the CPU limits more often than I'd like.
I've had my iPad Pro for nearly 6 years so I'm due an upgrade... the only downside is that I bought a MacBook Pro M1 last year which is amazing, so both will be kinda complementary devices to each other rather than having 'one' device that does everything. So in that sense, a new iPad is an expensive luxury. The annoyance is just about trying to balance price with memory with screen size with features, and figuring out which is the 'best' option that isn't totally overpriced but does more than enough to run the likes of Logic and other hefty music apps without compromises.
Screen size is the biggie for me - I reckon a 12” is required for decent use of LP. Storage another consideration, but I reckon an M1 would be a sensible processor option.
I’ll either (assuming the iOS version ‘clicks’) grab a recon M1 12” (assuming I can, and that everyone and his dog hasn’t had the same idea), or bite the bullet with a new M2 12”, though I’ll have to compromise on storage with that option.
I think an M1 with more storage is going to be a better buy than an M2 with less, if the prices are roughly equivalent. The M2 processor is 30% faster, which is barely noticeable, but the storage is going to be very noticeable, especially if the arrival of Logic pushes plugin makers to start porting to iOS in greater numbers.
I think we are going to see the iOS ecosystem change dramatically in the next couple of years. The hardware is capable, and it looks like the software is finally going to catch up.
Yeah, the other thing to note is that the higher storage models also have extra RAM, which again will come in handy running LP.
Probably going to be difficult to get a recon though, as there’ll be a lot of people after one.
There's some refurbs available now in the UK Apple store, the M1 is 5th gen (I wouldn't get anything older if I were you):

It's always been really annoying the way that Apple gouges for storage, you pay an extra £300 for the 1TB model over the 512GB in the refurb store. They've always done this of course...
Yeah, they look good. £849 for the smaller HD model isn’t too painful. Now a waiting game to see if the LP trial ‘clicks’!
The pricing is daft, I agree, but don’t forget you get double the RAM as well.
Good point, I forgot about that.
Nope - I can afford the Logic subscription but can’t afford (or specifically justify the cost of) an iPad.
Apple wants to sell hardware more than anything (long-term platform loyalty etc.)
Is it too far-fetched to hope that the top line Pro model will come with LP included for free? At least for a year or two. Putting "pro" into the Pro.
There was a time when Garagaband iOS cost money (was it $5?), then it was later included for free to draw more people to the hardware.
My Ipad pro 18 should be able to do the job 😊
I recently picked up a 2nd M2 256. I wonder what if I’ll be able to node them?
Got the M2 Pro last year but only 128GB as that was as much as I could afford. I might look at part exchanging for this year’s M2 whenever it releases and pay the difference for bigger storage. Otherwise just get a 1-2 TB external SSD
Don't forget you might want a Pencil as well...
I’ve got an Apple Pencil - knew it’d come in handy one day!
Is it the original Pencil or the Pencil 2? Only the second generation one does 'hover over'.
Other. Need a new iPad in the future but need to save up. Not rushing for Logic Pro, but when I can finally get a new one I will definitely be trying it out for the free month to decide.
As I got LP X on desktop first I will wait one or two month to do the free trial reading feedback first. Concentrate on what happens first on LP on Desktop. After I will run the free trials or wait to run the free trial and subscribe or not only on monthly payments , but I will not buy a new IPad ( bought 2 years ago an IPad Air 4 256 GB) for the next 3 years , LP ios must run wonderfully and export perfectly on my LP desktop.
Now from excited I getting wise this is my way.
