  • It does have a few crackly presets on an iPad 2, but most are just fine.

  • Yay. Same here. This thread made me break my no-more-synth strategy... No regrets. Thanks!

  • I really wish we could disable that white line when you adjust parameters, that makes it more difficult for me not easier. Otherwise a great synth and a steal at $4.99.

  • Damn, got it too

  • About the crackly presets on iPad 2....Lower the polyphony setting on those to less then 5-6. If a presets poly setting is set to 12, it will run the CPU at that setting. My English is messed up right now but ull figure it out l...It would be easier with a global poly setting for low end decivess

  • Lookin' good there @ChrisG

Why on earth do I need another synth.

Sorry, but I LOL'ed. And I imagine you are not disappointed?

now that you've got it, are you blown away?

Ah well, I suppose so. First impressions from my car stereo in the parking lot:

    1. LOUD. me likey. This is the first synth I have where I am glad the factory presets are not at max volume. It feels powerful.

    2. Fun! Something about it has a fun factor, just a bit more easy to fiddle around with and get a satisfying sound. Better than Magellan or Sunrizer at first play. (Nothing beats Animoog on this feature for me). I think for Thor it is the great presets and clean UI that make it fun.

    3. Hmm, I am a little disappointed by the "blade" keys, they don't seem consistent. Just an impression, I'm sure I'll sort out how they work.

    4. Not a huge fan of the knob twiddling, white line feature. I've really gotten used to how MIDI designer does it... Still Thor does better than most.

    5. 1000 factory presets? Wow, I can't wait. I especially like the pads so far.

  • Start reading the "discovering Thor" series on Propellerheads website. It was extremely informative about synthesis in general and the particular aspects of Thor. You may say now that other synths are irrelevant, as Thor can do subtractive, phase mod, fm, wavetable, and other types. I'm amazed, after reading that series, of what can be done with just 2 oscillators and amplitude modulation, no envelopes or filters. Or one oscillator and pwm, etc. It is a very deep and flexible synth. Resist the urge to jump around and see how much you can get out of just using Thor.

  • Fuck, ChrisG- quit while you're ahead....

^ that refill is full of patches that are amazing and would be 100% compatible with the iPad version. We should contact him and see if he would do an unpacked version for iPad (it currently is only available in refill format). I own Thor kit 2 for reason and it is incredible..

Seriously go and listen to the first audio demo (chords) to get a taste of what this guy can get Thor to do.

^ I just checked out thorkit 1 after posting my comment above and it's just as epic as 2. I have to buy it :/

The percussion sounds he gets are pretty rad too

  • Does Thor support the channel pressure from animoog keyboard?...or from geosynth or ThumbJam ?..going to buy it anyway but playing from ani/geo/TJ would be cool

  • I caved and bought it last night and playied around with it a bit. I already have a handful of Synths like Sunrizer, Magellan, and microTerra so I hadn't planned on purchasing another one for a long time if ever but this was just too tempting to pass up.

After about an hour with it I'm really impressed. Just the presets alone are worth the price of admission. There's a whole bunch of stuff in there unlike I've ever heard before and the variety is unmatched. And of course it sounds great. I did some MIDI out to Thor from Arpeggionome Pro and my ears got a boner.

I honestly don't know much about creating my own presets and some of the other features that Thor offers but this might encourage me to learn and as others have noted there's some great information on their website about this type of stuff.

So yeah even if it's just for the presets stop what you're doing right now and grab it for $5 (if it's still on sale).

Damn this forum and all these talented developers! :-)

  • I got it, too. I think it's great, but redundant if you already own Z3ta+. As I was going through the presets last night they sound very similar and can do similar things. Being that Z3ta+ usually only goes on sale for $14.99, this one on sale is the better buy.

  • Z3ta+ has 6 oscillators though, Thor has 3

  • good point, but the majority of patches I've seen in Z3ta+ only use 2 oscs, maybe 3.

  • Does Thor allow us to slave its BPM to external app? MIDI clock sync or anything like that?

  • It does now. The delays seem prone to glitching when the tempo changes (which is not unusual ) but once it locks in it's fine. The step sequencer syncs too.
Thor is infinitely more fun to program than z3ta. Of course it doesn't have the insane amount of oscillators, LFOs and envelopes either, but I much prefer it to z3ta in general.

  • no CC MIDI learn for parameters.

am I missing this somehow... or ... nah, it has to be in there somewhere, right?

  • No, I think you are right, but here's info about the mapping.

  • thanks for the info. I fixed the list there too.
