Thor doesn't show up in any of the DAW's I own so far. Cubasis, Auria, Meteor, MTDAW , BM2, Multitrack studio. Ipad 4, latest ios.

  • Thanks for the heads-up @telecharge, will stop worrying at it for now....

  • Here Thor is not working in AudioBus unless there's an app in the effects slot. Air latest iOS.

  • Thanks for the troubleshooting guys! We're looking into this, trying to find the pattern and cause.

That's been a known issue with other apps in the past. @Michael or @Sebastian may know what tends to cause this.

@kallepa That's wonderful news! Even more so if it means that Thor will become an IAA instrument.

So. This morning I decided to go to a track a friend of mine asked me to remix. I open bm2 project, plug Thor in via iaa, create empty midi keyboard track, point it at Thor, record a bass phrase in a loop. It plays back but with funny stuff going on at the tail end and basically never completely decaying. I go through several patches, same thing. Close all delays and decays, releases, lfo's etc, still there. Ok, unplug Thor and plug Sunrizer in its place. Result: works like a charm.
Conclusion: whoever paid the full price for this synth got a lemon. Unless: bm2 is a racist and discriminates between synths, I don't know what I'm doing and need to watch some YT videos or it's all that hippy energy shit that's been going on around this summer in the UK.

Disclaimer: this is not a rant. I actually find it quite funny that I fall for it almost every time. I still am an appoholic after all ;)

  • I guess the reason there are not IAA controls when in Thor is that it's just a generator??

  • @supadom that's one tasty lemon

I tried that and it plays back normally. I couldn't record pitch bend though - maybe that's just my limited knowledge on how BM2 works. And I used only the on screen midi keyboard. iPad 4 here.

  • Thanks @firejan. I can't be asked to reinstall it again. Guess I don't really need another drink, errr.....synth. Bloody appoholism!

  • Sure thing, It's good to stick with what you know, especially if you want to get things done, I guess

  • It does sound good though!

IAA generator only - which killed my initial excitement about the news :(

    Craaaaaaaaaaaap :(

The reason is as I explained above, simply implementing the latest AB SDK will give automatic IAA generator support, but nothing else. Thor devs didn't actively support any other IAA feature specifically, although they arguably should have.

  • I passed that on to Kalle, but didn't really get any indication that they would add IAA instrument support. Right now they seem to be more focused on squashing bugs.

  • I didn't realise the AB SDK IAA support thing would work prior to iOS 8. That's quite cool. One less reason to upgrade from iOS 7...

  • @kellepa I hope you read what users are saying , see attached to other discussion

I find the itunes description even misleading now.I would assume a synthesizer supports IAA imstrument if it says"IAA support".As you said, there is no IAA support...

Works great via IAA in BM2 using IAA and virtual midi. Seems that it saves some CPU vs AB setup, liking this, thanks to AB team for generator. Hope devs add support for IAA instrument.

  • Frustratingly, the IAA has stopped working for me. It was fine when I first updated and showed in Cubasis. Now nothing. Btw I noticed this last night before upgrading Cubasis to 1.8.2

Also, it is now bugged with Audiobus. Connect on its own, either direct to the system output or through another output app and there is no sound. Connect it through an effect and the sound comes back.

And finally, I have also picked up random problems like the delay module cutting out or the output suddenly getting distorted.

  • Updated: Sep 26, 2014
    Version: 1.1.1

    • Fixes Audiobus and Inter-App Audio issues

  • I'm not holding my breath.

  • Haven't tested IAA, but the AB bug is fixed. iOS 7.1.2.

  • Not entirely, when you use Tap to launch in AB for Thor as Input and you have eg. Cubasis as Output, Thor (after launching) doesn't show the record, pause, etc. buttons in his AB-panel! When you first open Thor and then pick Thor as AB-Input, then these buttons are shown. (Maybe a AB-bug?).

  • It's still not an IAA instrument. I guess that's just not happening.

I agree unfortunately. It's just an IAA Generator cause AB transformed it into one and not because propellerheads made it.Better than nothing though.

Thor working fine for me in Cubasis and through IAA, without AB2.
And with AB2 also. Together with IAA.
    P.S. Still on 7.1.2

  • Yay. Fixed IAA for me. Didn't work at all previously.

IIRC, a developer mentioned here that making it an Instrument is dead simple when adding the AB support, but it doesn't happen by default the way Generator does.
