This is another cool app from K-Devices!

Is it just me, or does it barely stay sync'd to the hosts' bpm? I feel like I've tried setting it to just 1/4 or just 1/8 notes and using it in on the grid straight rhythmic scenarios, both in AUM and in Drambo. If I set it up in parallel to any trusted midi sequencer it falls off the beat of the project, also to just the AUM metronome.

I've been using it in Drambo to generate a first riff but then recording that MIDI riff to a drambo clip to loop to be accurate.

But I was wondering if anyone was using instances of this app in a project similar to say how we'd use the Bram Bos midi generators, expecting it to be exactly on the beat every measure.

Have you checked that the ratio knob has set to default position? Because that basically speeds up or slows down the internal clock of tatat and will for sure cause it to go out of sync. The delay knob is probably unquantised too. I will check later tho with just 8th notes or something in a simple patch whether it is drifting. How quickly are you noticing the drift? Does paying attention to the 2 knobs I just mentioned fix it?

Actually @RolandGarros I just tested this with the init patch and you're right. It is very easy to hear with the metronome running and when triggering only one short percussive sound (I turned all the pitch knobs to zero except for 1 of them which triggered basically a short clap in Ting. I turned all the time knobs down except for 1/8 which I put up to max. At 120bpm you start to hear the drift pretty quickly. Soon, it's totally galloping horses. Over time it will gradually come back into sync and then drift out again. It's like some bloody Steve Reich phase looping experiment lol. I tried in aum. Would anyone else like to see if they can also replicate this, whether in aum or other hosts.

  • I’ve already reported it to the dev, if you check my post on the last page I mentioned this a while back. K-devices located the bug but haven’t heard anything since. It only happens when you open the app and don’t move the ratio knob, it seems to default to 0.0001 or something.

  • Ah, useful info - so if you move the ratio knob then double press it to reset it will work normally? Or do you need to adjust it manually to get it to reset properly? > @ronnieb said:

  • I just heard back from them that there will be an update soon

Thanks! I typically use it for experimental stuff that I then sample or loop so I guess I haven’t noticed much.

Same here, never used it against a click or drums etc before, mostly used it alone etc

Good thing someone noticed though for those that do. I tend to use apps unconventionally so I sometimes miss these things unless I’m beta testing and trying to put it through its paces.

Yeah, tbh I'm surprised the devs didn't test this. With any sequencer I'd have thought the first thing they would test is whether it actually keeps time properly 🤷‍♂️

Exactly 😂 that’s kind of a big issue to miss. I love their apps but seems like this one has had its share of issues and occurrences. Still like it a lot though.

Yeah, good find. Luckily for me, I barely use TATAT. Keeping that thing in harmony is like taming a wild beast. Did any of you manage to control this app properly?

Thank you @ronnieb .. I thought I had browsed over some mention of sync issues in the forum, but couldn't find it. The fact that jostling the ratio back to 0 fixes the issue explains my confusion about remembering it syncing properly sometimes but not others.

Even without a fix, I was so much happier using this last night knowing that info.

I use it quite often and really really like it. But I’m using it in more experimental ways so I think I just haven’t noticed the drift as much as others.

I picked this up somewhere on this forum. But if you use AUM, it's a nice integration with the built in keyboard there. If you click the keyboard icons, in the top left of the plugin window, and next to TATAT's notes, and then hit the infinity hold in the AUM keyboard, it grabs these notes pretty cleanly and dynamically to use.

I wonder what it would sound like with Chordjam sending it midi? Is that doable? Will have to try.

Yes... But you need to send chords with 4 notes if you want all 4 notes in tatat to change. Even then I have noticed when sending 4 note chords to tatat it often seems not to pick up the last note properly

I’m feeding TATAT with chord progression from Drambo, my problem is in pitch random generation, it’s not pleasant for controlled work and messing with my target harmony.

True reason is probably because I’m not good in generative music 😅 or need more time with TATAT.

One good thing might be to just play around and record some into a piano roll, then take out bits you don't like, do a few edits etc. Judicious use of the looping function in tatat can also tame the beast, also obviously you need to be careful about how you set the timing sections up and pay attention to the probability sliders for each timing and each note

Nope . Still impossible to set the 4 notes where I want them using my finger to scroll up and down. Currently unusable for me like this

It is a bad implementation in that regard, no question. However the workaround is easy and fast - aim the midi from your keyboard at it and press the notes in. Or type them in. But I fully agree, this should not be necessary and every app should make it so you can dial in whatever values you want, by hand, quickly and easily

I definitely agree but I do kind of like the implementation for inputting notes quickly in succession or for chord/key changes.

  • Hi All,

Hoping somebody can answer this quick question....does anyone know if the timing 'drift' bug was fixed?
looking on the App Store, I don't see when it was last updated, just the main app description.
    Thanks!

No - thnx for pointing that out, I just messaged the dev about it, I can’t believe this has not been fixed. I can’t remember any details about this, does anyone know if there is a workaround? I get this drift very quickly running the app in AUM

I seem to remember reading something about changing the Ratio and then setting it to zero again...

Oh wow I forgot all about this and kinda assumed it was fixed. I’m usually using it for weird noises so I think I end up not noticed the drift as much. I’ll test it later and see if it’s also happening for me (though I imagine it is) and I’ll email the dev as well.

Oh yes! Forgot about that, thnx! It's an easy enough fix, tho definitely shouldn't be necessary.
