Synths that sound weird like Hilda…

I love this new Bram Bo’s Hilda synth. It’s a masterpiece! I love this dirtier grainier modular sound. What other synths do others recommend ? I have Zeon which is a cool analog style synth, Thor which is great too when worked on , and BLEASS, but what about others that sound more abstract ? Thanks 😊

    Yeah , that’s the 303 kinda clone I I got most Bram Bo’s stuff . All solid !

  • Factory can get pretty weird and abstract. Tiny changes on the UI create wild changes in the sound:).

Yeah, that one rocks too.. very Westcoast modular inspired. I like Arturia Pigments, but not on IOS ( yet).

Mononoke can go from pretty tame to rather growly. I'd recommend turning the ambience knob fully down.

    Moog is ace too!

  • Rrarrow and Phawuo can both get pretty gnarly. And his new app Broohahaizer. Scyth and Shoom are great for that as well.

    +1

  • You may think I'm joking, but I'm not: KQ Unotone

  • My weirdest synths are:

    Ivcs3
    ID700

That synth is soooo much fun, and cheap as chips. Really good!

The Putney Ivcs3.. that’s a great idea and that id700 looks killer..FM cant go wrong for weirdness .. Thanks you all ;)

  • Snapshots (Patterns) will be cherry-topping for Hilda.. Can only imagine dancing with her in Logic..

  • Aparillo

There's your mistake. You don't try to master ID700. It tries to master you.

(I joke, but only partially. ID700 is one of those apps where it is definitely the one at the wheel. I'm just the passenger trying to describe where I want it to take me.)

I should try it one day.

    Wait a sec

  • All of three modular iPad mastadonts (Drambo, Audulus, MiRack) can sounds very weirdly, It all depends on what you do on them.
As for other synthesizers: nambu, id700, buttersynth, ivcs3, Woodsynth.

Thanks everyone ! There’s a nice shopping list building up here. Some great inspiration for myself and others.

Wavetable synths usually make some interesting sounds, but I haven’t seen so much focus on them on iOS yet, or is it just me ? I’m only a few months into iPad music production. I’m learning new things daily.

For wavetable I like Sythmaster 2 and Drambo. But if you are new to the game, I suggest Synthmaster 2, it's a powerful synth.

  • Yeah, Unotone, mentioned earlier is a nice choice, and cheap - nice to stack several instances after each other, as it can also be used to process incoming audio

Look at Butter Synth.. it's like Serum alternative on iOS .. very powerfull while it's UI is very straightforward and easy to understand (unlike for example Synthmaster, which sounds nice too but UI is complete mess :)) Butter Synth is really sound designer's heaven on iOS

People here tend to suggest Drambo on every thinkabke question, probably even the ones unrelated to music making 😂 - but if you are just beginning to get overview i would avoid Drambo .. it's modular groovebox and it can get pretty complex and you need significant preparation phase (selecting and connecting modules) to start getting something usefull from it.. it's a bit like Octatrack in HW world - very powerfull with almost endless posibilities but you can get quickly lost and it's not ideal for simple straightforward jobs where you just want to get some speciffic sound by tweaking knobs with prewired synth with clean straightforward UI ..

The weirdest wavetable-ish iOS synth I use is Polywave. It makes nicely bizarre sounds if you start messing with its randomizer.

  • Wow. Lets not forget RUISMAKER NOIR.
