  • i wish i could choose the tempo of the presetchange. 😀

    1. Thank you for tweaking the knob sensitivity — that’s noticeably better now.
    2. The new patches are inspiring: lots of things to try.

I’ve never thought of myself as a west coast synth guy. Since it came out, though, Hilda has been what I play with when I’m not playing guitar.

Things to try with the presets:

    • understand them, wait that’s not it
    • change the tempo
    • carefully mess the lfo/mod
    • try a shorter/longer release
    • adjust slope till the lights go blinkity blink
    • go back to adjusting lfo and adsr
    • well now get back to slope
    • change filter type to phaser
    • change it back
    • adjust cutoff and resonance
    • maybe some feedback
    • time to raise the wet dial and find where the delay hits better
    • back to the lfo
    • more feedback
    • and back to slope
    • a bit of fm
    • no, too much
    • crank the lfo
    • tweak the index
    • change the frequency, shit what was it before?
    • needs more fold
    • adjust timbre
    • some ring modulation
    • set wow and bend to 11
    • sub to 69
    • add some noise cause why not
    • scratch head
    • back to 1

    Also try the touch pads!

Gotta echo everyone’s sentiments. Great job on the patches everybody! It’s a great demonstration of how fun and versatile this synth is.

  • Great update and some nice added presets. Maybe after a few /months weeks it’s nice to hear what people come up with perhaps inspired by others. About the “in between preset moments”: a Fluss style morphing randomizer with snapshot option could be cool. While the parameters/sounds evolve, you listen and take a snapshot of your sweetspot(s) that you can edit afterwards.

  • Nice update! I really like this concept of community-preset-sharing. So fun to test what others do. Also, nice overhaul of the preset system. Thank you!

Of course, but that exercise is left for the reader
But speaking of that, even the placement is excellent. You can use the bottom ones with one hand, and the top ones with another. For instance it’s lots of fun starting the recorder, and while it’s replaying reach for the repeat or tape stop

And by the way, I totally messed up my own list cause I forgot octave change at #1

  • Here's a few more presets of mine that I've been particular fond of (can't guarantee they'll appeal to your aesthetic, though).
But I take no credit, the merit is all @brambos 's, I just turned a few knobs.
    Anyway, hope you enjoy

  • Wohoo! Presets + Mutation + Octave mappings I Love It!

For some reason I cannot find out how to import presets (with manual nearby). Even when I follow the steps as described (ZIP-> Share-> Hilda -> Refresh) they do not appear. I imported with Hilda running, not running, from ZIP, individual presets, restarted my iPad but until now with no succes. Maybe things go wrong from my side but I don’t know what. With that said I will also include some of my own exported presets.

I just shared your zip from my Mac to my iPhone and it worked right away. Not sure what's going wrong?

Thanks Bram for your response. I just re-started my iPad again, went to downloads, long pressed Pedro’s ZIP, chose share (deel) and selected Hilda. When Hilda opens up, I cannot find Pedro’s presets. They do not appear in any of the banks or a separate “Pedro” bank. Refresh and/or restarting Hilda or the iPad doesn’t affect this outcome (in my situation). All the above actions with a single preset also do not load. In case it’s relevant: iPad Pro M2, iOS 16.5

EDIT: I saved Pedro’s file to my iPhone and when Airdropping back to my iPad (and opening directly in Hilda) it works! Still strange behavior though, hope you can replicate it.

It's omega puzzling. But I'm sure one day I'll figure out why sometimes it works and sometimes it won't.

@brambos same here, can’t get any zips (or .hilda) to transfer from ipad to the phone
BUT airdrop works flawlessly, and if you start from a zip but then open a single preset then they all show up
I’m telling this from memory, I could test more accurately if it would help

The morphing is not working well it seems. I have to press “random” to see the morph start…I would have expected that it starts immediately after increasing the morph level, no?

I also just tried to share a zip file from DMT of his presets to Hilda - Hilda appears as an option, but the presets don’t turn up there. Refreshing, restarting the app etc does not work. So really there maybe needs to be a document picker inside Hilda itself that allows you to navigate to a zip folder in files, import it, and give you a choice of adding it to an existing bank or giving it a name and making a new bank. IOS Files system really drives me bonkers, I had the same problem recently with Tera Pro. Cheers!

What morphing? Are we talking about Hilda still?

    Sorry, I mean mutation

  • Also tried unzipping DMT’s zip file and seeing if I could import a single preset just by clicking on it - also no joy! Hilda opens but no new preset appears, refresh doesn’t solve the problem, nor does a restart.

Yes it’s weird because I tested that a lot.

  • Finally had time to proper listen to the bank, and wow some lovely creations there. But again I think the merit is mostly Bram’s cause this thing programs itself. Not dismissing anyone, what an incredible variety of sounds, I mean we should do this more often

Using airdrop? Cause I think that’s the only way it works exporting from files or whatever. But you need two devices. I’m cool though, this does so much already

  • @brambos I found a workaround that allowed me to get dmt's preset pack into Hilda. I shared it to Hilda from directly within Gmail. This worked, whereas sharing the zip directly from files did not. Strangely, I tried this hack before for Tera Pro, doesn't work, but at least it works for me with Hilda.

Now, about drag and drop - all these presets have now landed in my User bank. I made a separate bank called dmt. How do I add all of them at once to the new DMT bank? Obviously dragging and dropping each one individually is not ideal. Ideally these should not even have been added to the user folder. There would ideally be a pop-up on import asking you which bank you want to add them to, or giving you an option to make and name a new bank.

    Cheers!

  • Badman presets, just to say

If the presets had been zipped as a folder, the folder (with all presets in it) would have automatically been added as a bank.
If presets are zipped individually (i.e. not in a folder) they will be added to the normal user folder and you have to manually drag and drop them where you want them to be.

No it's not ideal. But I've wasted enough time working around Apple's silly file constraints. It's up to them now to make our lives easier.

Ah, ok! - might try making a folder for them and will let James (DMT) know he should do that. Cheers

I'm also looking into why I could simply import a .zip from my own Files.app on iPad and why it's failing for others. There seems to be no consistency to it.

Actually, I just checked - the presets where indeed zipped as a folder called ‘Hilda_Preset_Backup’ but they still did not manage to create their own bank when imported, for whatever reason

OK, good news - I guess Hilda maybe didn’t like the underscores in his bank name. I uncompressed the zip, renamed the folder to use no weird characters, compressed it again, emailed myself the zip, shared to Hilda from within gmail, this time it appeared as a new bank, correctly named. I deleted the presets that had been added to the user folder in my last attempt one by one, which was painless enough
