@Samu : What specifically would you like the see there besides a more Cubase like proper sampler track?

Tempo Track, Improved transient based audio-editing (warp markers etc, Elastique 3 already supports this), non-destructive midi and audio quantize (one of the things I really love in Logic). A 'drum machine' that allows user samples (Love the Drum Machine Designer in Logic), AUX busses, Foldable Track Groups to name a few...

...and 'search' for plug-ins and files...

While I'm mostly using Logic these days (both Mac and iPad) I do keep Cubasis 3 around for 'test purposes' for all the apps I do beta on...

@Samu : Why not just beta them on Logic Pro? Less headaches?

  • I like the 1,000+ instrument halicon idea. It kinda leans a bit toward Korg Nautilus territory in that regard.

It would nice indeed but the harsh reality is that not all host behave in the same, they all have their 'quirks'...
...and if plug-in developers fully ignored the differences between hosts it would create a total sh*t-storm.

We already have this situation where a plug-in works ok in one host and goes south in another.

To make things even worse when hosts add plug-in specific workarounds for various plug-in related issue it will backfire sooner rather than later when the root-cause for the issue gets fixed on OS level or by the host / plug-in developer.

LogicPro for iPad is the first DAW on iOS that is very strict when it comes to among others parameter automation and plug-ins that do not follow the specifications to the point will have 'issues' to deal with.

Luckily most developers by now follow the specifications but some older plug-ins may suffer and I fully understand if developers of those old plug-ins don't want to spend time on fixing a 4-5 year old plug-ins and update them for 'free'.

What I've leaned over the years is that the issues can not solely be blamed on one party (ie. Host Developer or Plug-In Developer) it's the combinations of things that create potential issues that affect the end-users which can result in the mentioned 'sh*t-storm' where the host most of the bad rap that could in reality be caused by the plug-in or vice versa.

LogicPro for iPad is far from 'perfect' (By now I've sent 100+ feedback reports to Apple, some got fixed in the 1.1 update).
But it's the DAW on iPad that 'clicks' best with the way my brain 'works'(or doesn't work?!) :sunglasses:

It will be super fun to check out what @LFS and his team has cooked up for this 3.6 update!
(Please let there be at least some sampling and audio-editing related improvements, please...).

But for me who loves to mess around with samples BM3 and LogicPro for iPad are still un-beaten as 'DAWs' for the iPad with both Drambo and SunVox as AUv3's when even more in-depth control and naturally Koala for 'stand-alone' sampling....

    Cheers!

Maybe we'll finally get a complete GM/XG sound-set for MIDI files with crazy screams, barks and mjaus? :sunglasses:
(That would be ~20MB of ROM sounds if dumped from the Yamaha SW1000XG).

  • Will the Iconica Sketch instruments be accessible as an AUv3?

    Hi @Dham,

Iconica Sketch is limited to Dorico for iPad as of now.

    Best,
    Lars

  • I think those new Halion addition will be more appropriated by the Android crowd. They have been requested in the Cubasis forum. On iOS we are pretty spoiled already. 😊

It’s different and always smoother having it built in though .

  • Thanks @LFS : I was mainly wondering if there was overlap between 3.6 and Dorico. In other words once I buy the 3.6 IAP would I already have the orchestral instruments that are in Dorico ?

  • @Samu: Thanks for clarifying (Midi edit , audio edit , etc

  • Since HALion will be sold as IAP for Cubasis according to the announcement, we will most likely not be able to use this great synthesizer (if it will be similar to the desktop version) as AUv3 in other hosts.
HALion as an AUv3 synthesizer could have a big market.

That would be great but I feel this is more to properly compete with how good the stock synths are inside Logic. Making them auv3 for use in any host would take away from what they’re wanting to, so I understand.

Well said Samu! I feel the same about C3 in regards to it being the app that just clicks with me. But Logic is the iPad DAW right now as far as being as close to professional as possible. If the feature updates don’t come this go around I may have to switch to Logic until C4 and/or the next big feature update for Cubasis.

Likely true…though Halion on Desktop does support AUv2 for use in Logic..but I doubt AUv3 on iOS is in the cards though

  • Shame that the Orchestral instruments are only in Dorico, but not surprising. Adding 34 instruments to Cubasis is no issue I'd imagine but it also says in the PR that they have 140 articulations. I'm not sure how they'd be represented... although desktop daws must do it somehow I guess?
A single track Dorico staff view in Cubasis specifying articulations would be very cool.
And of course Orchestral music is not known for maintaining a totally steady tempo, or same time signature, but folks have been saying that since 2016. I used Ableton link to get variable tempo in Cubasis a while ago, don't see why this is so hard to productise to be honest.

  • Subscription software can die in a ditch, and it would never be too soon. :)

Anyway, count me in for team Cubasis. It also does what I need it to do, so there’s that.

Does it reset in January? If so you’d only have to wait a couple weeks at least 😂

That should still be enough to have some fun 🤘 I’m cutting way down myself since I’m saving up for some hardware and other things I’m planning on doing. Once I have a hardware sampler again (the 404 mk2) I think I’ll feel less urges to buy apps. When I still had my OP-1 I bought things waaaay less frequently then I have over the last few months or so.

I think plugin delay compensation has been asked for a lot. Hopefully it gets added as well.

If this is the only update, I will be very happy. It’s the difference between amateur and professional DAW.

  • I’m planning for zero plugin budget next year…but only because I suspect the return of iLock to the equation.

@LFS can you please do a free update that exposes AUv3 parameters? Zenbeats 3 does this perfectly.

If I'm not mistaken their current 'strategy' is to only show the AUParamaters that contain recorded automation and not allow the user to select any of the available AUParamater and draw automation for it. Hoping this will change at some point in time...

that's right. iam fine with that.
i don't see myself scrolling through maybe hundreds of parameters, to find what i can find with one touch.
well done steinberg, keep it as it is! 👍

The ones with recorded automation would be on top of the list like today while the others would be tucked a way in a sub-menu, best of both worlds :sunglasses:
