at first I think its „Lenin play cards…. for Alaska”, I know I know 😉

  • I got eureka moment when discovered LK and came to conclusion that we got almost all crucial tools inside AUM.
    • LK - clips, midi, automation
    • Loopy Pro - audioloops and looping
    • GS DSP MMM - Bitwig like modulation
    • 4Pockets Surface Builder - live playing
    • Aube - auv3 organization
Working in DAWs timeline with mouse and keyboard seems much faster than touchscreen editing, so I'm sticking with Bitwig for final touches.

  • I'm sure you're a pro, but your example about banks simply accepting a vendor casually telling them to sod off when they ask security or bug related questions is fanciful at best - especially when the vendor is a relative underdog in the industry. But I mean, you're a pro, you do know that.

Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud are anything but “relative underdogs.” That’s why the analogy works so well. Apple is very much the same. Small developers have little choice but to live with the changes Apple makes to IOS for their own selfish reasons.

  • What if Apple changes the price in the meantime.

Once when I was trying to end a subscription they tried to scare me with, “If you cancel the subscription and then decide to resubscribe to it, you may not be able to resubscribe to it at the same price you originally paid for it. “

Can anyone confirm if this ever happens? That when the price goes up, only going for new subscribers?!

Subscriptions for any service (from Apple or another vendor) can change.

So, it's been a few days. Are you sold, still on the fence, or saying no?

I went in skeptical with little expectations and had no need or desire for a DAW since I never use the ones I bought before.

But surprisingly I'm liking Logic a lot. While AUM and Drambo will remain my go-tos, Logic is very easy to navigate. While it takes some getting used to, I actually like the sliding sections vs scrolling or switching to different screens. This makes my workflow much faster. I wish I could navigate my desktop DAWs this fast.

I unsubscribed the day before renewal 😂 I like 70% of it, but the 30% that lacks adequate MIDI routing broke the agreement for me 😞

I do think it’s corny that an update didn’t come out in advance of the first month. Even a mere content update would have been low hanging fruit

Yep... I decided not to renew my logic sub. I'll play it by ear and see if they improve some of the things that are personal priorities for me. As it is I already have more apps than I know what to do with, and I need to be very careful with money at the moment. I will stick with AUM, which is a good enough playground in which to use those other apps and maybe finally get round to learning Loopy Pro properly, also might start dipping into Apematrix a bit more.

I skipped on my renewal as well. Gonna keep an eye on it and see where it goes, but like you, I’m still all in on AUM. And I still prefer C3 and Zenbeats for DAW things right now.

I’ve been trying to learn Loopy Pro more as well. It’s a lot but it’s really fun. You can get some crazy loops going pretty fast. I never used ApeMatrix though. How is it?

Well, I definitely prefer aum in general but having the hi res built in modulation system in apematrix is pretty phenomenal. It's also possible that I just prefer aum as I'm more used to it, but it does have some of its own advantages when it comes to things like simultaneously recording individual tracks. I have really used apematrix very little so am not the best person to ask

I didn’t realize you could record all individual tracks simultaneously. Can you also export the stems?

Well all you have to do is arm record on any channel you want to record. If you want to record the total mix just send each stem channel to a mix bus channel and record the mix bus. A recording for any channel you arm for record before pressing the master record in the transport will be saved to the recordings for that aum session.

Oh yeah I knew that about AUM, didn’t know ApeMatrix did that though.

You misinterpreted my reply - I was talking about aum's recording ability!

  • Well, Apple obviously has more user data to evaluate than I do… and only time will tell… but I think they would’ve done better with premium pricing with no subscription. They could’ve easily charged $50 for it and I would’ve grabbed it even though I don’t really need it. They could’ve gone half the price of the desktop pricing and charged $100 and I bet they’d still sell a ton of units.

I think people are just sick of all the various subscriptions for online entertainment, gaming subs, music subs, Amazon Prime subs, etc, etc. I think a lot of people are so fed up with all the subscriptions that they’re starting to be much more selective. I’m not going to argue whether it’s a good deal or not. The whole subscription culture has gotten out of hand.

And yes, I don’t see that changing any time soon, but I do think people are going to start opting out more than the subscription services are prepared to deal with.

It’s obvious, service prices can change. My question was, can the price for newcomers / re-subscribers change but for those already subscribed stay as it is?

You can certainly read this from Apple service quote. But, has it really ever happened?

For potential buyers of course it will influence decisions, like every business transaction out there. For those that don’t actually care this is meaningless anyway. ;)

My limited experience with subscriptions is that the price tended to get locked in, including for subs that got bought with some kind of heavy discount, as long as you just let the subscription roll. I definitely wouldn't imagine the logic subscription price will be going up any time soon mind you! Although depending where you are, your local appstore charges could increase - I recently noticed that where I am all apps have had price increases relative to their dollar prices. Actually used to work out cheaper than the dollar prices but no more, sadly.

My only concern about subscription is that in the near future Apple plan is to consolidate the iOS and macOS version of Logic in one service based app. Logic itself is going in direction to be streamlined even more, no advanced MIDI routing, no advanced signal routing, etc… They have a perfect market, closed platform, everything in power to make this happen.

But all you really need to do is export your stems or whatever and move to a new platform or back to an old one. They have the music app ecosystem by the balls yes, because ipad / iPhone is the only viable device for making music, Android can't compete. But if Logic isn't good enough, people will just stop using it and use something else. In the case of Logic, Apple need to be competitive or they will not thrive

That was really an dystopian prediction!

No one can really predict the future, and, that’s includes the whole market, not only Apples - what can we expect from Google Microsoft Amazon etc etc in the future?

I have been using Gmail as primary e-mail since the beta 2004, but, what happens if Google all of a sudden wants 30 bucks per month for their “free” services?

Yeah, I’ve just been 50 bucks poorer also, but, it feels really OK!

BUT, Apple, big big disappointment over that we couldn’t get an update and fix at least the most important omissions on Logic Pro for iPad…
How hard can it be for a company this size to fix an app that has to be fixed?

Worth mentioning, Apple has already made an update to Final Cut Pro for iPad…

Yep, my (temporary, probably) non renewal of my sub after the trial ends is exactly mostly a protest vote at this. Apple has a lot of arrogance, we should make it clear to them they'll need to work for their money if they expect people to tolerate a sub, even a reasonably priced one. At least one update or even some release of some of the missing content that's on the desktop version would have been a wise signal of intent, but did not materialise.

I have literally hundreds of unused apps coming out the wazoo lol, so I should really use what I have before paying on the regular for something that feels a bit half baked. Reminds me of the first iteration of the apple pencil - how did anyone ever think it was a good idea to make it have to recharge by shoving this stick-like object into the lightning port? 😂 🤷‍♂️

For a company that's supposed to have the best design ethos in the world, apple certainly make a lot of poor choices.

  • I was all in a few weeks ago but I have been doing more stuff on desktop recently, so I cancelled my renewal for now. I'll do it eventually but since it's a hefty price, I'll wait.

  • I have not renewed yet, waiting for a big update to the whole midi situation. Also, it had greyed out some of my USB midi devices, so I was not able to use my full setup.

  • If Logic Pro is part of a long-term strategy, it isn’t surprising that they aren’t churning out quick updates. There may be things that they are working on completing that preclude quick fixes without distracting from implementing features or fixes that aren’t superficial.

It remains to be seen how seriously committed Apple is to this project. Time will tell. Who knows what time scale they are working on. It wouldn’t surprise me if major updates take quite a while or if they drop quickly.

  • One remarkably positive outcome of this "compulsory" trial system is that it made a lot of us think before we decided either way. Ardent opponents ended up going for the annual rental, overeager fanbois decided to cancel. A rare sight in this instabuuuuuuuuy-infested forum. 🙂👍

  • I'm a bit surprised at the amount of negativity to be honest.

It's the only app I have on iPad that can do what I want. It's far from perfect but a bloody good start.

I've renewed for a year. Even though it will never replace the Mac for me.

I've got tons of iPad audio apps and plugs I've hardly used over the last few years as I've just never found an environment I can get stuff done in, and getting things over to the Mac (Logic on Mac is my main DAW and has been for years) has often been too friction-ey (which is a word).

AUM et al are cool and fun to play with, but I never actually get sh1t done with them. I like a time line to arrange my music. Being able to jam out ideas from Live Loops, record into the timeline then take it over to Logic to actually polish and mix is compelling.

I'm clearly biased as I've been a Logic user for so long, but it's a pretty great app. Live Loops, beat breaker, alchemy sampler etc are great on the touch screen and that coupled with being able to get everything done on the screen with the touch keyboards without having to attach MIDI keyboards makes it a prefect playground for coming up with ideas and adds to the overall Logic experience.

Judging by the support Ive had from Apple with Logic for Mac, I have no worries going forwards. They've always taken their time with updates and upgrades so I'm not concerned they haven't released an update yet.

I bought the current version of Logic for Mac in January 2014. Since then the upgrades have been fantastic. They;e added so many things, including the new compressor with 7 models, Drum machine designer, Loads of new drummers, Live Loops, step sequencer, new sampler and quick sampler, auto sampler, new fx, chroma verb, the camel fx that morphed into step and phat fx, vintage EQs and so much more. All for free. Not to mention the tons of content.

    9 years of free updates.

Even if Logic for iPad gets no more updates I've had my money's worth already. Nothing 'missing' stops me from making music with LP4iP.
