This would be great and a great first entry into software market for Behringer
I think @user54432 was thinking of a hardware unit, or maybe that was just my fantasy? If Behringer wanted to make a hardware synth/drum pad with Obsidian & Slate and NS2’s sequencer (adding audio tracks)… that would be amazing! Probably too technically challenging to create that, but the thought is fun.
My favorite part about NS2 is the endless track grouping/sub mixing you can do purely by dragging and dropping the tracks wherever. Every other daw makes this sort of thing absurdly tedious to do. Allows you to get really creative with your mixing strategies. And I’ve also used NS2 to master audio stems by loading them as samples and contenting myself with the fact that the track will have to play through entirely while I’m tweaking things. The built in compressors and eq are very good

Exactly this ... even om desktop only Reaper has this level of complexity... When i entered Ns2 beta and saw first release of mixer, i almost shit my pants 🤣
As long as I have an iPhone I will be using NS2. Amazing workflow on such a small device.
I was thinking software. "Behringer Interactive".
I load the stems into instances of 4Pockets MTR loaded as insert fx in NS2 - that way they play perfectly in sync with wherever you put the play head in your track and press play at.
Create as many instrument-less tracks as you need in NS2, put an instance of MTR in the first insert fx slot of each, set them to host-sync (this is important to ensure playback occurs from the exact place in the wav that corresponds with NS2s playhead position), load your stem - then add whatever fx you wish to each track after the instance of MTR.
Give it a go - it works perfectly for me 👍😊
Yes 4pockets Multitrack Recorder almost gives you audio tracks in NS2, it works pretty well.
I haven’t tried logic yet - I will in a few weeks. But I plan to continue to use NS2 for the near future. I love it. But if I like logic as much as I expect (based on watching videos) I’ll probably phase out use of Nanostudio gradually while I learn Logic.
I put NS2 and AUM and some FX and 2 synth not CPU heavy to my oldest IPad the IPad Air 2 iOS 15. I call it my lab to do samples. Limited CPU ans storage is ok.
LP iOS and Cubasis 3 and my fav FX and synth are on the IPad Air 4.
Haven’t done much music lately and when I have it’s been CB3, but this afternoon I had a play around with NS2. I’d kind of forgotten just what a great bit of kit it really is. Simple to use, great workflow, and just works. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but it’s great to work with. Think I’ll stick to it for a while.
Big NS2 fan.
I don’t use it anymore now that I have Drambo but it was always really slick, Slate especially.
IMO NS2’s workflow is the best of any MIDI centric DAW I have worked with, going back to Digital Performer and Opcode on the Mac. NS2 allows me to get to what I want to hear with the least amount of interruption to the creation process. I have said many times that NS2 could have been (maybe still could be) the ultimate DAW if financial circumstances had not cut development short. It’s interesting that one of the suggested solutions to the money issue was moving to a subscription model, which was looked upon with great disdain. And here comes LP and all of a sudden many of those people now think maybe its OK. I will try LP with the expectation that it will fall short in too many ways compared to NS2.
Tried a bunch of different iOS sequencers and DAWs. NS2 is the only one where most of the core functions were immediately intuitive and where I expected them to be.
I’m reflexively against subscription pricing models. But this is the one app I’d consider it for. To ensure that it keeps working into the future.
Also, I think a good marketing strategy to split the difference between a subscription (which immediately rubs a lot of people the wrong way) and a one-time fixed-version ‘perpetual’ license, would be to sell maybe a 5 or 10-year license. Where you pay a fixed amount up front (that’s discounted over what a subscription would cost for the same time period) and get updates/revisions within that period. The customer gets to feel like they own something for more than a month at a time, and the developer can potentially generate more up-front revenue.
I read in bleep interactive forum (NS2) the dev reply to people willing to support financially NS2 , that he was not comfortable with this idea as he will feel guilty if he lack of time to do enough upgrade. He prefer to do maintenance only. He is n’a serious guy and NS2 will carryon to work for users.
Can you use MIdI controller (or/and midi learn)?
Not sure but the built-in macro control page per Obsidian or AUv3 track somewhat helps.
Yes in Mixer > Setup settings you can map 8 macro knobs plus XY pad (plus modwheel in case of AUv3 instrument) plus mapping to most of build in channel insert FX effects ..
You can save settigns as default and then it automatically loads for every new mixer channel you create.. defsult is stored per combination if midi hw+nanostudio instrument, so you can save different defsult mappings per AUv3 instrument, Obsidian and External MIDI instruments
@dendy - but not to AUv3 FX, right? Or am I misremembering?
Like BM3, I have a fondness for NS2. It had something most iOS DAWs and beatmakers failed to have - a tempo timeline. A tempo timeline is worth its weight in gold as far as I'm concerned - one of the most needed features in making music Imo. NS2 also just felt so nice to use, apart from a lack of visual feedback of song position on some screens and obviously lack of audio tracks.
It's still on my iPad and I still use it to play about with at times, but never made a track with it since Logic.
Thanks @dendy and @rs2000 *
@dendy How do you map the macro knobs to MIDI CC?
Edit: Found it!
There is a somewhat hidden menu that opens after double-tapping one of the bottom mixer track labels.
correct. Only for most of build-in FX's (if i good remember not possible for EQ-3 and maybe for compressor ??)
So I reinstalled NS2 as the current IAP sale reminded me of it. I have a few of the IAPs but a couple of them won’t restore on my new iPad(the free pack and Industrial 2).

That worked. Thanks @wim !
This is an incredible mini DAW: as people noted, if this had audio tracks it would’ve been hard to beat. I wonder what people that like it (esp if you have time sig/tempo changes) do for audio?
Oh I see people use Multitrack recorder from 4pockets….i guess that works well? Surprised I didn’t hear about that as a more used combo.
for some reason this doesn't work with the 2 Industrial banks. Tried everything and got mad at the app enough to uninstall. Yes I can be a petulant baby but how about a to patch to sort this glitch instead of a workaround?
This has always worked for me:
Hit Restore Purchases. Wait a minute or two. It will appear to be hanging. Quit NS2. Re-open NS2. Everything will re-load in seconds.
okay, here we go...
