May the gods go with you…
Believe it or not, I find Slate a very capable audio recorder that just doesn't happen to follow the classic timeline approach.
When recording instruments live, I'm mostly doing that riff by riff anyway (as I'm not a good guitarist of bassist but I'm enjoying it :P).
So the pads become riff triggers that allow me to easily preview and arrange them spontaneously, and because Slate can sample while the arrangement is playing, to me there's not really a lack of audio tracks but rather a different way of doing it.
no joy
maybe it's because Im trying iPhone, iPad worked
You know what - i was wondering why it asked me if i wanted to allow my microphone for audio recording….duh!!! [sampler]
Hmmmmm thats a fascinating way to look at it…i mean you clearly think outside of the box as a fellow drambonaut (ofc you’re on a much higher level than i am) but thats a real “flexi”ble way of seeing things lol
What’s the limit on the sampler time if you might know?
Thanks for the idea. I WAS thinking of defaulting to 4pockets with Richard’s idea, but maybe this would suffice.
[only thing I would guess you can’t really do is editing /processing]
BTW rs, head on over to the Guitarists Guide and join the registry, me and Ish are waitin 4 ya lol
Side note: You have to answer yes to that question for any audio app that asks for it, even if it doesn't accept microphone input. The permission is required for InterApp Audio Support. If an app doesn't have that permission, it probably won't function properly with other apps.
really? Good to know wim. Thanks for clarifying man.
Yeah doesn’t work with industrial IAP. Gonna get a refund for them and deleting NS2.
Weird. It worked for me.
The IAPs aren’t great IMO so I don’t think you’re missing much… better to load your own samples.
You can certainly record a whole track on a pad, although at a certain file length, I would rather want to split the recording.
I would at least recommend to try that kind of workflow. It needs some getting used to for sure, but NS2 does a good job making it a fun exploration.
It's good enough for me. Like said, as long as I keep the recorded phrases at a reasonable length, envelopes/EQs/filters/modulations are available for each pad separately and after arranging the audio clips on the timeline, I can always add some track automation when I need to.
And then there's the wave editor that even supports a beat grid so you know where you are on the timeline.
I'll have a look, thanks 😊
always weird.
finally worked for no paricular reason
The IAPs used to be decent enough, but I think late 2018/early 2019 was before Pure Synth Platinum 2 released and Module Pro went AUv3. Those two romplers alone made the NS2 IAPs rather obsolete (for me at least). Although it's tough to top Obsidian when using NS2.
From the manual:
“ NanoStudio's sample editor is capable of efficiently editing mono or stereo samples of up to 2 hours in length.”
🤗🤗🤗
Why thank you @Slam_Cut
as usual you bring good sense
Thanks mate. Well, even though it is my personal opinion and not written-in-stone facts, I am glad to have purchased all IAPs for NS2 back in the day, even if I never use them now. The money went to support a hard-working developer with one of the best DAW apps on iOS.
Shame about no audio tracks though, but that's what 4Pockets Multitrack Recorder is for just in case that is your preferred workflow. (My preferred workflow is to record vocals in Cubasis 3, process them, and import those into Slate, lol. It's the way I used to work in FL Studio proper before FL Studio had audio clips, lol.)
Here is one for Team Nano
In the video, I also show how to re-install existing IAPs.
This is aimed at people new to NanoStudio 2 who may have taken advantage of the sale.
So it goes from me installing the app again through to recording a basic track.
Just saw this, thanks Doug. Great job
Matt is a big loss to the music community. It’s such a pity not enough people backed NS2. We’d probably be on NS3 by now with audio tracks and more.
I wonder what it fell short by to keep the project sustainable?
Matt said here that NS2 sold about 1/5th as many copies as NS1 in a comparable timeframe. It obviously fell so far short of the revenue to make it worthwhile that he didn’t pursue an alternate way of increasing the revenue.
Ouch. That’s quite a difference if he was expecting similar or higher sales. What a shame.
Is the guy RIP? 😢
No, just got daily job to feed family, he doesn’t actively develop NS anymore..
No. He just had to abandon work on NS2 to work a regular job to make a real living.
I'm glad you asked about that. Talking about him in the past tense is a little bit creepy.
Once again a super helpful tutorial Doug.
