I feel lost in a sea of same-y looking knobs, and the UI does nothing to inform about the signal flow.

These new (G)UI are a complete UX failure, and I can see zero reason for it having been done this way.

Yep. Totally uninspiring to look at and therefore use - regardless of how great they might sound. I’d even prefer the ugly desktop Ford Focus dashboard designs to these ‘let’s not bother’ UI’s.

Give me the joy of playing Synthscaper or Aparillo any day of the week. You’d have to prise my existing apps out of my cold, dead hands.

Love Aparillo at least a good creative inspiring apps like Hilda not like hundreds of not useful synth or apps that crowded the AppStore.

As you take your decision not to subscribe to Logic iOS is it so important for you how is the GUI ? I decided to subscribe yearly and I take it as it is.

Perhaps this is just a temporary GUI and it will be improved ?

I see LP iOS as more a work in progress and I am happy to have created some tracks and it make me creative After many hours but I wasn’t expecting to handle it in few hours nor I was expecting that it make me now more creative in my music. So I hadn’t waste my time at all.

The great thing is when you are not expecting you appreciate what you get.

Only speaking for myself, I don't think that critiquing the synths is the same as not appreciating whatever LP has to offer. I am likely to use it for post-recording mixing. Couple LP with the FabFilter bundle and I have most of what I would use on the desktop to finalize something. So great. That doesn't mean a person can't be critical.

Is it so important how is the GUI? Yes, I would even say, of course, or, obviously, or why would you even feel the need to ask. The first time you ever encountered a door with no handle and had to wait for someone to explain that it slides so you were stuck outside for a month. Yes interfaces are important.

They put a huge amount of thought into it this. Everything. I just tried the pop-up keyboard and it's on a whole new level. I wanted Logic for this platform, but I didn't expect this level of attention.

This isn't a hack. Should be fun :)

On my 11" it's something. Makes me want to leave it out of a case, as it's so light, which makes the experience ...easier. Need to look for a sleeve now.

My iPad is an M2, which also sort of blows my mind LOL. Combined with this, we are getting there.

Yeah logic stock plugins are stellar .. one of my biggest dissapoontments was they didn’t invested into some good UI designer to make some better UI for them in ipad version of logic, what is there is just horrible, random rows of knobs and dropdown menus :-(

As an example, Sculpture is a fabulous synth, great and versatile, BUT, the new UI in Logic iPad is hopeless and boring…
They have put 137 different potentiometers to adjust the sound on one page… WTF?

Yeah, it's pretty clear that some recent releases that came out just before logic were rush-rekessed due to the devs realising that they would potentially have fewer of they released after Logic. There's enough in Logic to keep everyone busy for years, it seems

Funny I was thinking the same with such a rush, now it is not the right time to release a new app and it must really offer far more than before. If Apple reach 50 % or over of market iOS Daw it will be difficult for many dev, not all guys are Brambos talent and Apple offer golden proposal to hire such iOS dev even they can carryon to update their apps done before joining Apple.

I imagine the number of indie ios devs hired by Apple is tiny, no? There's the Samplr guy, is there anyone else?

    How about the Patterning-guy?

  • The plug-in UIs are brilliant. They reflow and scale controls in a smart way, moving from knobs to sliders as the screen space changes. They’re clean, params are easy to find and it’s easy to control on everything from an iPad mini to iPad Pro 12.9. There are subtle pops of color and throwback to the old UIs ( like retro synth ) but in a non distracting way.

this is honestly absolutely main reason of my big dissapointment from logic ipad... i don't care about audio tracks, i am synth/fx guy... i love logic stock synth/fx plugins and even through i am deeply anti-subscribtion - small part of me was ready to change mind - just because of those sznths and fxs ... but when i saw what thei did with UI ... :(((

Well obviously they need to fix some things. They will, if they get enough feedback. I haven't tried very much, but a hopelessly cramped UI would drive me crazy. You would think.......

But the pop-up keyboard is amazing.

Like said @ErrkaPetti having not favorite for sounds is more annoying when it come to presets. It is pretty basic so I saw more a rush problem to release on time and updated very quickly. Perhaps we miss something hidden somewhere ?

  • Bland GUI give me perfect cover/excuse to continue to buy 3rd party Auv3 like candy….even though I know full well all the sound/fx I need is well covered in Logic

  • @ZooBaaDoo agreed, I have a boatload of AUv3 instruments and I haven’t used any yet. Some AUv3 FX, but yeah it’s pretty wild. There’s a lot here and over time it will just grow

I do sooo remember. TBH I wasn’t sure. I guess I had been so let down by previous DAW’s. I have only just been brave enough to start work on one of my ‘songs’. For me this is my real acid test. So far this DAW hasn’t put a foot wrong. I love how easy I can edit midi and audio. I love dragging different mic settings over my vocal tracks to try out. It’s just making me continually smile at the moment!!

Good, and I can see a lot of others are digging it too.

For me though, at this stage, I can only see my usage for it as an arrangement/mixing tool, since I can just as easily put together audio chunks of synth, drum, fx combos etc. in the thousands of apps I already own. But are there any benefits for me to use it as an arranger on a relatively slow Air 4 (I know you’re using one too, but I’m noticing a bit of a slow-down as I build up tracks) with a small screen, compared to my Mini 27” monitor combo? Probably not. If I had a 12.9 incher (ooh matron) ipad I’d probably keep it, but I don’t, and it’s not giving me an incentive to upgrade.

Not deleted yet. But I’ve already stopped opening it to have a play today, so the end is nigh.

For the IpadAir4 it still ok from now but I got 200 GB free space and I try to run only LP ios closing other apps , using only Sample Crate to use some samples I got and only stock plugins but at one stage certainly I will got CPU problems using AUV3 heavy CPU like model D or reaching a certain number of tracks.

It is too early , how I use it, to really feel CPU limitations. I tends to avoid In my music too many tracks and complex tracks management too so it can be an advantage but it’s not because it LP before on Cubasis I was doing like that , keeping light all projects. So my way is not too CPU heavy usually but for sure I should experience CPU overload or slow down like anyone on an IPad Air 4.

I haven't even scratched the surface with Logic Pro, lol. I haven't been creative much the past week since I'm still learning Logic Pro. Yesterday when I finally did become creative and made my Drone Day piece, I used AUM with which I'm already familiar. I did master with Logic Pro instead of Cubasis, but today I'm just going to sit down and explore more what Logic Pro has in it. :)

Keep reading the manual, but don't feel constrained to it. Make a few projects in Logic Pro and see where the snags are. Then you can go to the manual if you're tripped up. I didn't read a manual for desktop Logic Pro and just relying on my GarageBand training I've already created dozens of pieces. More fun for me that way.

+1! Have yet to crack open the manual, if I’m unsure about something I make a new project and test it out just so I don’t really screw the pooch. The undo button has been quite helpful already too lol

Yes in the main I make quite traditional singer songwriter stuff. Plugged in my guitar’s (an electric and an electro acoustic) it recorded with minimal fuss then went to my mic through Scarlett same thing but somehow sounded more right than other DAW’s. I’ve also used my Triton keyboard as a simple midi out again just got on with the job. Really I’m honestly impressed. I use a Scarlett solo btw.

It’s just any of the ‘vocal’ patches found in the inspector just drag and drop onto the vocal track (not the tracks area) and voila you get to try out the different included patches. You can of course then mess (adjust 😂) with any of the effects which have been applied to these patches by pressing the edit button and looking at which effect tiles have been applied. Hope this makes sense?
