Anima

Original acoustic guitar groove - inspired by a certain John Coltrane track.

Taylor GS Mini -> Tascam iM2 -> iPhone -> DDMF Magicverb
(Highly recommend this reverb - sounds so good! The Dry/Wet mix has a sweet spot around 45.)

Artwork created by starryai - AI Art Generator
Text from OED 'anima' definition: the part of the psyche which is directed inwards, in touch with the subconscious.

    Me too!
Also, the reverb sounds great. Not too much, not to little. Just right.

  • Thanks, @Paulieworld - feel free to download and add bits (tempo 63).

Got it. Trying a few things in Am. Does that work for you?

Go for it - I trust your ears.

  • Really love this, Paul ! This really deserves to develop into a full track !

  • As soon as I saw the word “anima” I had to listen. After hearing it I’m glad I did and that my love of words didn’t lead me astray!

This is what I came up with. Hope you like it.

  • Thanks @Paulieworld, sounds good - and you already got way more plays than me.

Thanks for listening @audiblevideo. To be honest, I wasn't fully aware of the meaning of this word, just making anagrams out of 'Naima' (the sublime Coltrane track this is based on) - 'amnia' and 'mania' definitely did not fit the mood, 'anima' was spot on.

Thanks for the kind words @JanKun. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them. (I've also got some more of these that I'll try to record sometime soon.)

  • Would it be possible to get the dry recording of the acoustic? Not that I don't like the one (I love magic verb) you added but might be limiting...

Sure - luckily I added the fx after, I'm learning!

  • @pbelgium @JanKun Looking forward to hearing this!

  • i would try too with a clean signal

I like it so much, it was a journey to distant forgotten memories. Pure and engaging with strong character, phenomenal ending. On every repeat I discover something new. Do you have more like this one?

    Wonderful stuff!

@Paulieworld link the two together, bro, and you got four minutes. Now we need @GeoTony to shred some sax on top of that and you got 6:45.

This is starting to sound like a good plot for an international spy movie. First, we have @pbelgium the world renowned musicologist who developed a secret formula for a song to save mankind. He just needs a few ingredients not available in his country. Next there's @LinearLineman the sophisticated ex-New Yorker calling the shots from his secret lair in an undisclosed southern location. Then there's @GeoTony the suave, British ladies man who melts hearts when he steps into the spotlight to riff on his horn. Finally, there's Paulieworld, the big, dumb brute from the south side of Chicago who likes to break things. This could be fun!

  • Thanks for listening @Birdpie (sent you a link), @Luxthor (more of the same will come soon) and @LinearLineman - much appreciated.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ... @Paulieworld pushes the 'play' button ... however, he has inadvertently turned the volume dial too far and the 'song to save mankind' is too loud. @GeoTony slowly turns his head, looks him squarely in the eyes and says, "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"

  • Great track and @Paulieworld your addition is both subtle and enhancing…
I’ve been the opposite of suave the last few days… very long shorts, socks and shoes with no laces… even the neighbours are starting to comment 😊
This is the sort of track that just inspires people to play along with, hope more people do… I’ll certainly have a dabble 👍

  • You knew I couldn’t resist 😊 Thanks @pbelgium (and @LinearLineman for the vote of confidence and @Paulieworld for more inspiration)

Just got home from a particularly bad day and this turned it completely around. Your playing is amazing and works perfectly with the guitar to create a whole new composition. I think that’s called synergy. I could probably say more, but I think I’ll listen again. Very enjoyable!

I liked how you transitioned from a tenor to baritone. Nice touch. It’s hard to believe these aren’t two actual horn players.

  • Nice melody @GeoTony. This is definitely a challenging piece to play over, so respect.
(Your opening phrases instantly brought back childhood memories of the song 'Hey There Lonely Girl', which I probably haven't heard since - good song.)

  • Thanks @Paulieworld , it’s actually all Tenor… higher register for first part, lower for second 🎷
It was you that inspired it @pbelgium , I misread your comment as ‘Hey there George girl’ (by the Seekers) and couldn’t work out the connection then realised my mistake , reminded me of the track and know exactly what you mean 😊

  • Thought I'd follow @GeoTony's lead and take a solo.

  • Much preferred yours to mine 🙏 Beautifully quirky 👍

  • The tone and riffing reminds me of Roy Buchanan. Well done!

  • Thanks, @GeoTony @Paulieworld - I've not listened to much Roy Buchanan, probably a good time to start.
