This track was originally supposed to be a TripHop song. I listened to a lot of Massive Attack to get a feel for the piece.
Then @richardyot sent me the demo project with his awesome vocals, and it was at 105bpm. 🤣 I've never heard of a TripHop track at 105bpm (then again TripHop isn't one of my main genres), so I turned it into my current "Justice" style instead (although could've easily turned it into Reggaeton).
I cooked everything up in Nanostudio 2. The drums are mostly Linn samples from KB6 audio! Used Troublemaker for the subtle 303 bass, but Korg Module for the main slap bass. Used PSP2 for the Electric Piano, Copperhead for that arpeggiated synth, Zeeon for the Synth Brass that appears after the first chorus, and Obsidian for the strange pad during the second verse.
Richard provided me with the lead guitar and the vocals that ended up in the track.
Regarding the microsamples, I sampled...
-Candelion - Give Me Your Attention
-Christoffer Moe Ditleysen - Grasp of Freedom
-Trevor Kowalski - Chasing a Ghost
These appear during the intro, choruses, and middle 8.
Look out for the "oh so amazing" drum solo. 🤣

Oops I forgot to add that I created the album art lol.
EDIT: Over 70 views as of this edit, and not one comment. What is going on here?
great job, not my cup of tea but production quality here is very high ! You should send it to some labels which are oriented to this genre, this thing is definitely ready for wider audience not just this small forum bubble
in some moments i have a bit problem with voice, it sounds a bit out of tune - maybe some autotune (even used intentionally more here and there as creative effect) would improve whole track even more
Morning coffee with fresh brewed song from forum friends, could you wish for more?! 🤩 It's really exotic to hear Richard voice in energy filled groove and in the same time slightly melancholic mood, perfect for the hot summer morning. BTW, just preparing stuff for the beach while listening.
Great colab, can lead to even greater things in the future. Bravo!
Listened to a bit more than half through my phone speakers (headphones not at hand) twice, and I thought it sounded great, really great! Not something I would listen to now but I was definitely listening to and enjoying this kind of thing 15 or 20 years ago.
The chorus in particular is very catchy and has a real euphoric feel to it, especially Richard's singing there. You definitely got that bass sound down too btw. Loved the guitar line and the glitch processesing of the guitar line in places.
About the low number of comments - one thing I notice is that a lot of people on the AB Forum a) don't like embedded links b) seem not to like or not to know how to use, or have problems using, Dropbox. Look how many submissions for Vampyr and Metropolis Krupa had to process manually because of this. An embedded sound cloud link would probably have got more listens, more views, more comments. Also though, acting affronted when people don't comment is unlikely to lead to more comments - stubborn crowd here! 😂
Though it's also a matter of what people are into. The forum creations section has definitely taken a turn towards the ambient and experimental over the past year or so.
I agree with Dendy that you should really be trying to reach a bigger audience than the forum with this stuff. About the voice being in tune, I was a bit thrown by the direction the melody took on the word 'continuity' early on but I really liked it 2nd time round. Sounded a bit like a Depeche Mode melody choice. The vocals in other places, if they sounded at all weird ever, I think it was maybe a bit more due to whatever processing was put on them than the originals being out of tune. Kind of hard to tell through my phone speakers.
Overall, great job!
Good vibes, liked it
OK I'll give you a comment...the track has a good hook and could very well get out there in the world a little more. Sample clearance is probably why it's not on SoundCloud at this point I am guessing. I'm listening through the speakers on a computer monitor so...you know...I'm not listening in high fidelity , sounds like an interesting mix between a bit of later day pop and the harmonic structure of Depeche Mode.
As for lack of comments....I've personally had a bunch of creation posts that only seem to get maybe one or two comments and maybe that's just me not making enough of an effort to comment on other people's tracks or maybe people don't like what I put out? I don't have the answer to any of this and I've given up even caring anymore. It does make the little bit of feedback I do get a little more special.
I've been thinking that people don't really come to this forum for the music side..
That is true... I think the number of people who listen to creations is low, and the number who comment even lower. Mostly this place is for sharing excitement about new apps coming out, then bitching about / praising them once they do come out, and then asking Qs, whether of the technical problem-solving type or the recommend me a.... type.
I hate commenting on music because I tend to think about music like I think of my own, in terms of what is wrong with it. So I'll just be honest and start with the positives. The bass is perfect for this song, maybe a little bit slappy sounding (like the M1 slap bass), but still very suited. The vocal sounds great in the higher parts (chorus?).
Over, the mix sound like a mess to me. It lacks clarity. If this song is important to you I'd remix it and really try to get some separation between the tracks. The drums are not right for this song IMO but strangely, I think they would be better if not quite as buried in the mix. Again, as I said above, the vocal sounds great in the chorus part but in the other parts it is too pitchy for me to enjoy the song. I know overdoing pitch correction is not for every one but in this case I think it is needed.
Fingers crossed I haven't been too harsh. I think it could be much more pleasant to listen to if those things were fixed. The mix is the most troubling part for me though.
If it's of interest, the thing that stop me responding about music is that I feel bad stating what I think is wrong, and generally get a bad response when I voice my opinion. I like to be honest and honesty is not what most people want, even when cautious delivery is attempted. And what are you supposed to say when you just don't like something. I just try not to think about whether I like it, unless I do of course, and talk about the elements of the song.
I always find that the number of comments a track gets can be very hit and miss - I've seen amazing tracks get posted and only receive one or two comments, so I don't think you can read anything into it. Sometimes a creation gets a big response, sometimes not.
Anyway it's been an interesting experience handing over one of my vocals to @jwmmakerofmusic - as he relates in the first post I thought we were making a trip-hop track 😀 , so my original was pretty dark sounding. And that's the beauty of collaboration, the other artist can take the song in very unexpected directions.
would you mind share that vocal for another collab ? Thinking about creating my own vision with it :-)
Do you still have Logic? I can share my bare-bones project with you if so.
Nope, i guess trial already expired :-) Just plain wav of vocals is enough
Complaining about the lack of comments is counterproductive and will only bring you frustration. There are literally millions (if not billions) of tracks released each year, the large majority of which will stay unnoticed. Sad but terribly true.
complaining in a small forum like here is a bit like taking us hostages. Don't you think it is not really cool to point a gun at somebody's head and ask him to listen to what you're saying ?
Most of the members of the forum don't care about the creation section. For those who care, they probably didn't see your post, didn't have the time to listen to it yet. And for those who listened some of them probably didn't like it, and/or didn't feel like commenting to give negative feedback. It is part of the deal when releasing tracks in the creation section.
So once again, stay away from frustration, the most important thing is to be happy and proud of your own creation. I know it can be frustrating at time. Over the last two years, I released some of my best work and barely got 150-200 listens on SoundCloud. But Take any listen, any like and any comments as a gift or a benediction and cherish the fact that someone took the time to listen to your production even if it is only 1 person. This person matters!
As for this track, as I told you in a different thread, you got an ear for micro sampling. You're nailing the justice sound. I personally cannot listen to this too long, too abrasive to my taste, but I appreciate the skills required, and I am sure some people could enjoy this very much. Find a niche where you could increase your chance to get an audience. Keep producing relentlessly, and don't let disappointment or frustration get your nerves.
I listened on headphones, and while it’s not my musical cup of tea, it’s well made, and I like the way the collaboration went in an unexpected direction. I think I understand what @Ailerom is getting at re the mix - the different bits seem oddly disconnected to each other. I couldn’t for the life of me explain why.
On the number of responses - I find I have difficulty keeping up with postings here and elsewhere (while still having time and energy to make my own music), so I don’t spend as much time as I’d like listening to the Creations section here. Hence I tend to be a few days behind in commenting, and don’t listen to everything. This isn’t a comment on the quality of the work here, it’s about time management!
Dude, you were perfect with you constructive feedback, because A: you were honest. B: you told me what I could improve. C: you weren't mean about it, lol. Have you considered being a teacher? I feel you could do well as one.
Yeah, a lot of people do become offended by constructive feedback, which I honestly don't understand if we're to grow as musicians in general, not just as iOS musicians. Honestly I think I did overdo Reelbus a bit too much, hence muddying up the sound with a lot of tape saturation and w&f. At least you made me think more critically about my mix and how to go forward in the future.
@everyone
About the lack of feedback, sometimes my mind goes like "Oof, I put in a lot of hard work. Why isn't anyone commenting." And then I go into panic mode. I don't mean to "hold the forum hostage" as it were, lol. Sorry about that.
About the vocal tuning, our mate Richard seemed to use the E Aeolian mode for the chorus and the E Phrygian mode in the verses. I was also unsure if I should've used my tried-and-true tuning method in Cubasis to flatten them as well as to tune the verses to E Aeolian. I do think we were supposed to try for TripHop, but then I heard this arrangement in my head.
And, I agree with Dendy and Gav. I have an account with LabelRadar and lots of unused credits. Maybe Ed Banger would be interested in my latest productions. I'll have to come up with a few more tracks and send them to their A&R or whoever via LabelRadar.
🫣 And many folks said I was one of the reasons last year if I recall correctly. I was obsessed with Ambient production last year and had my "Summer of Ambient 2022".
Ah, and also thank you all for the compliments. Much appreciated.
Sadly, from dealing with teachers for my two children over the last 10 years it seems that the complete opposite traits are what most teachers have now. It's a real battleground for a caring parent with expectations of professionalism.
Have you ever tried the (I think it's called) Mix Challenge. I've been lucky enough to have 2 songs selected there. It's a cool way to see what other people do with your mix. You'll even try it here by zipping the stems and naming the tracks. At best it could give you an awesome mix you don't expect or at least an alternative starting point. At worst you might hear Drake ripping it off next year.
It's just a thought. I don't have a lot of free time but over a month I'm sure I could spend some time trying a new mix. I'm no mixing genius though. Like most, I just do it my way, with the average ears and personal skill set I've gathered over the years.
Nice job JWM. I agree with the vocals and or instrument tuning that seems to occur on just a few spots. I agree with @Ailerom , something about the mix, but I do love the bass and all your instrument choices.
You did well too support @richardyot strung-out characteristic, which I love BTW.
I would also love to hear a straight up Electro rendition to support his vocals too.
Can’t wait to hear what @dendy’s vision will be.
Yeah, my uni was more interested in who could make the most off-the-wall Stockhausen-styled piece of art music as opposed to learning to produce proper in any genre, lol. Any decent production chops I've learned over the years was learned on my own through books and forums. Youtube wasn't as big of a platform then as it is now regarding learning.
I usually nail the mix well, but I think I went for too many psychedelic wobbly effects in the mix. Rear-view vision is 20/20 or however the saying goes.
That sounds like a crazy idea, but in a good way. I may just as well take you up on that someday (if I even remember to do so, lol). I'm just considering this track as a "good attempt, and I'll try to do better".
Thank you so much mate. And yes, Ailerom is wizard for pointing out what could be improved. Not many people have the guts to do that let alone in such a nice way too. (I mean, some people do take offense to any little critique, but I'm always here to learn even at age 39.)
Thank you so much mate.
Let's hope Dendy chooses Electro then. LOL!
hey guys, don’t put too much expectations on me or i get creative block :-))
So people like me, who gave only positive impressions for songs that they generally like, ended up like white noise on the bottom of the scale.
What I think about the debate you started here. Technical advice is always precious, when you get it for free is a godsend. Art and style advice, if not specifically asked for, are rude in its nature. Better avoid it.
BTW, I still think this collaboration is great, they both discover new grounds, can lead to even greater things in the future. Guys, please don’t let that idea just die. 🙏
Great job @jwmmakerofmusic and @richardyot
Definitely can hear the Justice influence. Also hear a bit of earlier MGMT floating around in there as well. I think Richards 90s inspired indie vocals with the electronic instrumentation made for an interesting blend of influences. Really cool stuff!
As others mentioned, this sounds like it’s ready for a wide audience.
I totally get the slowed down Justice style and Depeche Mode vibes.
Well done 👍
work in progress .. lot of work do, lot of ideas still just in my head .. here just testing freshly built modular (that acidish bassline)
this will be edm banger :-) 🤟

Oops sorry. I usually thank people for compliments and forgot to this round. I do apologise.
Facts.
☺️ Of course not, mate. I look forward to collaborating again in the future with @richardyot and others as well.
Thank you so much mate (and to everyone who left a nice comment). ^_^
Cheers mate! 😃 That means a lot.
Sounds really cool!
well it’s big challenge to match your production quality :-) 🤝 lot of work ahead to turn rhis snipped into real track ..
This sounds even more Depeche-Mode-ish, I like it.
Well I'm definitely wishing you the best of luck mate.
Was talking in general, my fault, sry. You did nothing wrong. 😎
You are on the right track for sure, keep going. Can’t wait. 🤩
