So many... Thafknar, AltiSpace spring to mind. As mentioned Thafknar has a pretty bad UI. I definitely prefer AltiSpace 2, though it is bit of a cpu hog for sure. Thafknar is cheaper (free maybe? With various IAPs I think). Is probably the cheapest option - oh, there is also that recent app by the AA Sample Player dev, that is only 5 bucks I think.
I recognize that developer. I have MIDIculous by them. It’s a bit confusing to find them because their products are on the app store under Midiculous LLC. The iFX Rack looks like it opens up lots of possibilities. Thanks for steering me there.
A lot of IR recommendations came up. I think I’m going to return TB Reverb and put that money towards IFX Rack. The Midiculous web site says to sign up for discounts on their bundles.
Thanks to all of you who suggested and commented on IR!
FWIW, THAFKNAR does not limit reverb length if you have long IRs (AltiSpace 2 will truncate them) and seems a bit more CPU efficient than others. It also may be the only one that handles stereo to stereo IRs correctly (which only matters if you actually have stereo to stereo IRs).
Good point, yes I think I remember you mentioning that before. I will mention, personally, that I generally find I prefer convolution for smaller spaces and algorithmic for large, anyway.
You may not have had access to great IRs for large spaces
It really depends what one is going for. There are some amazing IRs of large reverberent spaces that are amazing . They are pretty spendy CPU-wise, though.
Absolutely, even on my M1 IPad Air 5 a few instances of any of the IR loaders with iR’s that are 2.0sec or more can get it chugging pretty good.
I know eventually for the control afforded and ease of remixing we all want an iPad CPU that can handle all of our plugins wide open & available in the session. Unfortunately freezing tracks and bounces are just going to be a part of mixing for the foreseeable future. Truthfully I don’t mind so much since it does demand that you make a decision and stick with it. Back in the days of analog doing bounces & submixes from the multitrack session tape to an external recorder (I used a DAT machine) and then back to a fresh multitrack session tape was such an ordeal. You HAD to make sure it was good because once new overdubs started you were set in deep. I don’t miss it; freezing & unfreezing is a cakewalk next to that mess…
@espiegel123 Good to know Thafknar doesn’t cut the reverb length, something that annoys me about Altispace.
Are you talking about AltiSpace v2 or v1?
if you can't find it on ios
Both
Thanks!
So, to buy an Reverb for iPad that loads external IR-files remains only Thafknar, or?
Wish we could load IR-files into Space Designer in Logic…
AltiSpace 2 and Impulsation also load IR files. There are probably others, too.
I forget btw - did they get round to adding the ability to load IR files in Pianoteq for iOS?
Gav, just checked and input an IR-file into Pianoteq on iPad - working great!
Loaded an EMT140 IR, sounds great!
There may also be an IR loader in miRack.
Nice one!
There is, it’s in the Nysthi collection: Convolvzilla. Uses quite a lot of CPU, though.
For the sake of completeness: Drambo also has a convolver module that can load arbitrary IR files
I thought this thread was missing something, but couldn't put my finger on it...it was a Drambo reference
Only for the sake of completeness! 😛
I love practical solutions! I wonder when his double plate version is coming?
I like it but i find the IR too short some times, so I never use it.
I actually use Drambo's plate module as my plate reverb if I need one. I've never had a problem with it, but I'm no reverb expert.
Before you spend too much on reverbs, it’s good to watch some comparisons because you start to realise that the differences are not as distinct as you first thought.
This ‘reverb world cup’ for example is not exactly scientific but fun nonetheless (not plate specific though - there’s probably others out there)
It will depend on what the "movie clips" are.
Do you mean their talking bits in the studio their feature films "A Hard Days Night" and "Help" or some other clips?
Audio Damage ADverb2 . Hands down. On iOS anyways.
Glad to see Adverb getting some love here. It’s in my top 3 reverbs on iOS. TB, Adverb, and Crystalline are all amazing. Blackhole is very close too though.
@HotStrange I have pretty much all reverbs on iOS and I just like the AudioDamage reverb apps. They are good work horses. Crystalline is my new contemporary favorite right now. BA makes really cool stuff.
Crystalline is absolutely fantastic. It can do some really cool stuff. AudioDamage is great as well. I use ADverb2 more than EOS but I love both.
