i like to use all lower case sometimes, to give my words a cummingsy flavor, and i'm wondering if I'll get FLAMED if i do so here
Apparently it signifies familiarity with a person, in that you don’t feel the need for formal rules. As expected, pretty much the opposite of typing in all capitals.
Maybe best to drop this now, as it’s just going to cause our wonderful mods a headache in the long run.

The question isn’t “is there one”… it’s “when can we get all synths to do this?”
We have some influence here in the forum to get a few developers to make changes we desire but
It’s clear the majority tune us out.
This assignment would require the “Gazpacho Police”. But it has been a teaching moment. My take away is
“Just use AUM” and be your own “developer” of cool responses to MIDI triggers.
Haha, oh goodness. I hope the mods are not such delicate flowers as that. But if capitalization is such a big deal, I think they should put it in the rules -- no nonstandard capitalization.
I'm not taking a side on this per se, but if the title on the original post was in allcaps, then anyone triggered by them could have skipped the post. After all, headlines are commonly all capitalized, so just reading a capitalized title post alone alone shouldn't trigger.
Personally, I find allcaps messages and texts annoying also. I generally skip over them and go on my (sometimes) merry way. Surely here is a touch of Karening going on here, but I've engaged in that myself before no doubt, so that is no criticism.
Woodsynth sounds great and is very powerful but suffers from a bad UI.
Mood is great! Can’t believe I forgot that one.
Thanks guys. I didn’t know these apps were capable. Butter synth has exactly what I expecting for. Also SpiderMidas mentioned MitoSynth. I have SynthMaster 2, Quanta on my iPad, but never used it as I’m more comfortable with my iPhone. If I would have known I would have did SynthMaster 2, Quanta quicker than expected. I also have Mood, but never could figure out how to get the samples to play, I only used it for factory instrument sounds in my Daws. Thanks everyone this helped a lot
@HotStrange, thanks. I got Woodtroller on special and am playing the virtual Moogs and slowly figuring it out. I like it and it made me curious about the other Immaculate Maple Syrup selections on the app menu. They seem a little weird, different, intriguing, Ok, I am finished sidetracking this thread
As @GUB pointed out, something to be aware of, Mitosynth is IAA only. That might not be suitable for many people these days. That's never restricted me personally from using it a lot in tracks, but lack of AUv3 demands other workarounds.
Also, it's age may not be favourable to the latest OS versions. I don't run the latest OS. Approach with caution, I'd say.
I don't have it and don't know much about it, but it seems like Buttersynth could be the best choice.
FWIW, I have the latest IOS, and Mitosynth so far has worked work fine. The other concerns you noted remain, however.
Yea, most granular synths are based on a sample and an oscillator. Something like quanta.
There’s also Also tardigrain, Fluss, etc..
It think it does. I believe it has a picture on the App Store with an audio file loaded in the window.
I’m fine with it being IAA. It doesn’t restrict me either. And with Cubasis, it reads a lot of IAA’s through midi any way. For the most part you could use Cubasis Keyboard and PianoRoll editor with a lot of IAA apps

Not to defraud the thread further, I’ll just wholly recommend Woodstepper as an amaInf sequencer, synth, and Groovebox adjacent app that’s super fun and more accessible than Woodsynth. Though there are lots of tools for learning them on the devs YouTube page. He’s seems very committed to his apps which is nice and why I had no problems buying.
IAA is weird for me. I still use the ones I have a lot but have some weird mental block with buying them bc I know it doesn’t exactly fit my workflow and won’t be around forever. Mitsosynth seems great and I love the granular apps from that dev though so I assume it’s good. I remember it getting tons of praise here when it came out years ago.
Bad news, my friend. Nothing will be around forever.
Here's the way I see it: buying and using an "inconvenient" IAA app like Shoom is like buying an old classic sports car.
Is an old Porsche going to last as long as a Toyota? Not without exceptional care and maintenance. Will it be inconvenient to keep and use? Will you drive it less than your Toyota? Yes.
But for the inconvenience, you get to drive a car that in some ways has no equal to any contemporary car. When it's finally no longer usable, you will enjoy until your death or senescence the experience of once having been fortunate enough to drive it, an experience forever lost to later generations.
Same with an IAA app. And if you really wanted to keep one "forever," you'd just garage an iPAD with an old OS that supports your app, have a local backup of the app, and you're set -- you can squeeze a few more years out of it.
Saying "want to see my special car," and then showing some wide-eyed innocent down the line your garaged Porsche is just like saying "want to see my cool and rare software synth?" and then pulling out an iPad and firing up, for example, Giant Isopod.
"Sorry kid -- you can't get it anymore. The Giant Isopod is almost never seen in the wild, but it's your lucky day. Want to take it for a spin?" Oh what joy you will be spreading when you get to say that.
The difference is apps are cheaper than vintage sports cars, will impress far fewer ladies, and will never get you laid. You may even get labeled a nerd, but whatever. That hasn't fazed me in decades.
Pictured is the now-extinct Giant Isopod. I wouldn't call it a classic, but it's fun enough.* I have yet to impress a girl, (or anyone) with it but I figure that it's only a matter of time. Once I put up a Noises bank culled from it, there's no telling what will happen.
*Also, its much more convenient than many AUV3 apps I have, unless you consider an app crashing to be convenient. It never, ever, crashes.
No I agree with you. I still own and use a lot of IAA apps and some of my all time favorites (Borderlands, Samplr, Thumbjam, Shoom) are IAA only. But it has to be REALLY good for me to buy an IAA app now because it doesn’t fit my workflow as well anymore. State saving, resizable windows, multiple instances, etc are big for me. Though multiple instances applies more for effects and sequencers than anything.
Luckily I’ve bought most of all the IAA apps in the past already so there’s not many new ones out there for me now 😂
Thanks, @HotStrange. I will check it out. Usually I just sample virtual synths in AUM and Loopy Pro which is lots of fun. Reading about apps and getting nuanced user feedback makes for excellent vicarious entertainment and can be very helpful. So this place has really done a number on me. And congratulations on your engagement.
Thanks man, and enjoy! There’s lots of good fun to be had out there
