  • I love it how each and every one of these threads ends up being answered with basically all the apps 😂
But lots of nice suggestions here I wasn’t aware but will take time to research 🙏

FAC Transient (using it on drums all the time, absolutely excellent)
FAC Medusa (literally my only one mastering plugin except of nanostudio's internal limiter)
FAC Chorus / FAC Phaser (probably best, most wide, sounding chorus and flanger on iOS)
    Beef (amazing sounding overdrive/distortion module)
Korvpressor (my number one compressor on iOS .. great UI, great sound, very versatile)
Cascade (since it was released, my most favourite not-just-ordirary-reverb-but-way-much-more plugin)

Or just buy MiRack :-) It's easy to use it as Au FX, this is ALL you need to connect (input/output and FX of your choice in between) - it's almost infinite bank of interesting FX's .. There is multiple variants of every thinkable effect inside it as independent module, and the quality is absolute top notch in most cases ..

Is there a setting to get rid of the cables or make them more transparent. My brain just want to route the cable out of the way with tie wrap on the top rail. 😄

Yes. Tap the spanner icon at top right. There’s a transparency slider, and a setting to hide and lock the cables.

wow never noticed that ... that is cool, i actually turned cables to 100%, i didn't like that they were half-transparent, i need feeling they are real physical cables, like in Reason :)))) It all then sounds much better

You joke, but that’s exactly what any heavy investor in the Apple ecosystem should be doing. Buy the stock of the companies you love the most. Put your money where your mouth is, basically. 😀

  • I don’t think you would call this an effect as such - but you might - anyway it’s brilliant so I’m going to mention it for the people who haven’t yet come across it. Glitch Core

  • Let's see, it all depends on what genre I'm producing.

Lately I've been into EDM (whether orchestral trance something-or-other like "The Journey", or minimal techno like "So It Goes"), and one effect I can't get enough of is TB Reverb. It has shimmer, it has ducking, it has EQing of the wet signal. Enough said. :)

I also love TB Reelbus on the master buss to add some nice tape saturation and subtle hiss, and TB Barricade for limiting. Even though BFM was recently released, I still find Youlean's Loudness Meter more efficient for monitoring LuFS levels.

For Ambient, I absolutely cannot live without FAC Alteza reverb. The ultimate long-tailed reverb to top them all (whereas TB Reverb is more of a top-quality all-rounder). I also love Rymdigare for some really whacked-out effects (it begs to be played with live) and I love Bleass Granulizer for getting that granular sound (it also begs to be played with live).

Truepan is a really incredible effect that gives me really solid binaural panning (albeit at a fixed simulated distance and only at 'ear height', no z planes or any of that, at least as of this writing). It's really great for that 3D sound in Ambient as well as for other genres. Your mileage may vary.

I also put Panflow before Truepan since I don't always want a "circle around the head" effect but still want some sort of movement in my tracks.

For Lofi, I usually like Lo-Fi-AF instead of Reelbus to really add some grit, vinyl crackle, etc.

This is just off the top of my head.

You mentioned some of my favorites here. The UA stuff is great. Have you tried Needlepoint yet? Also Time Machine from 4pockets. It’s a little quicker to dial in but doesn’t sound quite as good.

And as you know I’m a certified fanboy when it comes to True Pan and all the TB apps. I actually gravitate towards those and FAC instead of FabFilter (though I love their creative effects).

I’m curious why you prefer Youlean? I have the free version and I’m trying to decide between that and BFM.

Also for another great ambient reverb, Stratosphere from Blue Mangoo is chefs kiss

BROOO! Yes, Stratosphere is cream of the crop!

I prefer Youlean because I just slap it on the master buss and I can get a near instant readout of loudness. BFM is cool but I feel Youlean is more accurate in my own personal experience. Your mileage may vary.

And yes, I love True Pan, TB, and FAC. FabFilter is nice, but they are iPad-only plugins. Sometimes I just want to whip out my iPhone and lay down the start of a track, transport it over to my Mini 6, and finish it up at home there.

I've tried Needlepoint, but it's a bit tougher to wrap my head around. That's not to say it isn't amazing though. Just more technical than I need. Yeah, Time Machine from 4Pockets is nice but like you said, doesn't sound quite as good. (Although I do like some of 4Pockets' other apps.)

I go back and forth on Alteza and Stratosphere. I try them both and then stick with whichever sounds best for that project. But honestly I think I end up using Blackhole a little over 50% of the time 😂 I think I love that app more than I realize lol

I get that though! Outside of sampling and using Koala I don’t use my iPhone for music often, but I do sometimes. Just with only a handful of apps that are easier to handle on a smaller screen.

I get the Needlepoint criticism for sure. Even Lo-Fi-Af kinda suffers from that, imo. All of their apps are a bit heavy handed on the UI but they just sound so damn good. Bass Mints interface is pretty clean, though.
