Artifacts is an audio effect designed to add lofi vibes to any audio signal. Multiple sections allow for a wide variety of lofi effects ranging from noisy vintage gear over crackling vinyl players and wobbly tape machines to crunchy digital sounds and everything in between.

With dedicated sections for Noise, Drive, Digital and Tape, Artifacts offers a simple yet powerful way to mix and match various types of lofi effects.

A separate Liveliness section makes the plugin come alive by applying sublte or extrem flucuations to any of the 4 sections.

In addition, Input and output sections allow for further sound shaping before and after processing.

  • I guess he’s trying to go for some that Hainbach/Audiothing sound with this one?

This is most definitely not for me. 😀

Yeah - it is definitely influenced by AudioThing, Unfiltered Audio etc, I would imagine.

I’ve got a feeling that with my various tape echoes, Needlepoint, Noises, Speakers, and sundry Lo Fi tape instruments, my Boards Of Canada/Hainbach itch is currently scratched. Still waiting for Gong Amp, but otherwise, I think I’m good. Happy for someone to convince me otherwise, mind.

  • It’s a saturated market, but it does sound good.

Yeah, I think if you have all that stuff, you’re probably pretty well converted to be honest. I suppose though they all do have their own little combo of things right there within their own little AUv3 wrappers, that might make you come up with something using one of these tools that you wouldn’t with another 🤷‍♂️

‘Saturated’ indeed. Glitched and mangled too

  • There’s a business model where fans support developers that provide sustaining value with their catalog… Kai makes the cut for me with sub $10 asks.

  • SuperVHS released same day, ouch!

Yeah! Personally I would go with Kai's app probably. Cheaper and way more versatile

Not that Super VHS is bad! I will have a short vid up soon. But they're not very comparable really. Super VHS is a bit like a lofi Knock!

  • I can't wait for the giveaway. Sold! 😜

  • I haven’t watched the @Gavinski tutorial yet but Jakob Haq’s new video popped into my timeline on YouTube and he definitely makes the case that this is an FX with extras that make it more like a synth in capability (“It sounds like a SID synth” if that’s meaningful to you)… I was only partially paying attention ay the time but I could hear the enthusiasm:

Doug is on it too… haven;t watched it yet:

As always: Hit Like and Subscribe and watch the ads so these folks can cover their costs and maybe buy new equipment too.

  • Think I see where the inspiration for Artifacts came from!

Yeah ~ if you have all the unfiltered audio and Audiothing apps - and even those often duplicate functionality between apps - you could pretty much do everything here. Add in free Chow Tape and Chow BYOD. I guess the liveliness sliders in Artifacts bring something a bit different to the table.

I haven’t used this one but it’s very popular, see it everywhere.

  • Is this an intro price?

It's pretty good imho, although I'm not a big fan of the category, and does get seriously discounted every now and then

    Good question, no idea!

    Thanks! Artifacts is very nice!

I like that you have an input lp and hp filter, so you can filter the input and then dial the mix knob to only apply to one part.

The crackling and noise is also cool, it's a quick lofi tool!

  • Weird, the latest update says that it is universal now. I already purchased it for iPad, but i see that iPhone is an entirely separate purchase… is this an Apple store glitch? I thought a univeral app only needs to be purchased once.

    Wondering the same

It does and it’s most likely a glitch. Happened to me recently when Tera Pro came to iPhone. Once you select buy it should pop up and say something like “you already own this app, download again for free?”

  • This and Super VHS both look awesome. Which is everyone liking more?

I would chose this. Super VHS is a bit overpriced for something so simple - others have mentioned that it's largely cobbling together a few of their free apps in one app with a few extras that you probably have other apps that do - the static slider adds a bit of noise, untuneable - woopity do. Heat is nice but you probably have a ton of apps to add analogue warmth and mild distortion. Sliders on the top are difficult to use with accuracy, you don't need the shape function as you almost certainly have more sophisticated bitcrushers. No volume knob for input signal seems an obviously useful missing feature.

AudioThing apps, bitjuggler, chowtape, the Unfiltered audio apps do all this kind of lofi stuff but offer you much more control.

Tldr: sounds good but gives an extemely basic level of control and 2 or 3 of its functions are already covered by free BA apps.

An experimentalists like you would definitely enjoy Artifacts more I reckon. Not sure either of them are essential buys if you already have similar apps but Artifacts is certainly better value for money and offers quite a lot in one package.

This plus the free magic switch

  • @Gavinski just put my mind at ease for choosing Artifacts only and not getting both
    Artifacts is awesome indeed
