This and Super VHS both look awesome. Which is everyone liking more?

I would chose this. Super VHS is a bit overpriced for something so simple - others have mentioned that it's largely cobbling together a few of their free apps in one app with a few extras that you probably have other apps that do - the static slider adds a bit of noise, untuneable - woopity do. Heat is nice but you probably have a ton of apps to add analogue warmth and mild distortion. Sliders on the top are difficult to use with accuracy, you don't need the shape function as you almost certainly have more sophisticated bitcrushers. No volume knob for input signal seems an obviously useful missing feature.

AudioThing apps, bitjuggler, chowtape, the Unfiltered audio apps do all this kind of lofi stuff but offer you much more control.

Tldr: sounds good but gives an extemely basic level of control and 2 or 3 of its functions are already covered by free BA apps.

An experimentalists like you would definitely enjoy Artifacts more I reckon. Not sure either of them are essential buys if you already have similar apps but Artifacts is certainly better value for money and offers quite a lot in one package.

Thanks Gav! So it’s kinda like Magic Dice, Switch, and Pitch Drift rolled into one? Maybe I’ll slide it back down the line a bit. Also I have all the apps you mentioned which makes me think I need it even less. It’s just the appoholic in me making me want to buy them all 😂

Artifacts definitely seems more up my street. I have basically every Lo-Fi app (except this and VHS lol) but I’m much more inclined to get this. Love the Numerical Audio apps a lot. And it seems much more versatile. I guess it’s kinda like synths. Sure the basis of them all is very similar but they all have their own flavor. This, ChowTape, Reelbus, Reels, etc all seem to have their own thing going on.

This plus the free magic switch

Yep I do have all other Baby Audio apps and love them! Will definitely get this eventually but it’s not something I need RIGHT now. I do want it right now though 😂

  • The only thing I think is a must fix is the drive knob not compensating the output gain, it’s annoying.

It certainly is, and potentially ear destroying or speaker damaging. Use with a limiter!

I sent an email about that, i hope it changes

Thanks for the tip on that! Don’t wanna ruin any headphones (or ears)

  • Its a cool one, but annoying shit is there like in rest of his apps:
    crackles when dials are moved
super exponential inconvenient curves for controls, especially in drive, closer to the end of the range
    glitchy interface when resizing

    So mind it

Yeah, to be honest I always find there are some flaws like this in this dev's releases.

  • An app in this category that hasn't been mentioned yet is Unfiltered Audio's Needlepoint Vinyl Simulator:

Some things I like about Needlepoint compared with Artifacts:

    • The variations are rhythmic, not random.
    • The crackle generator has more nuance and range.

That's as much as I've played with so far.

Yes, I really like needlepoint too

All of UAs apps have become some of my favorite effects on iOS. Needlepoint, Silo, and Lo-Fi-AF especially.

Not sure I’ve had a lot of issues with crackling but the resizing issues are a PITA. Some of them don’t resize at all.
