    Hiya,
Question for collectors of ios delays, if anyone can advise, which ios delay do you know has the slowest time, whether in seconds or beats/bars?

    Thanks!

If I may ask, for what usage anyone needs 10+ sec. delay, I’m really interested? Thirsty for knowledge! 😅

Alien whale music. Not alien music, and not whale music, but alien whale music. Cosmicwhaletronica.

This is new to me. ;)  So you can't just copy tracks because of the generative (or live) character of the audio signal?!

Just listening to something from YouTube, thanks for the new genre. Sounds good so far. 😎

  • AudioDamage Enso can loop with decay up to 32 measures. Depending on the tempo that could be really long. Also has decay and the option of putting saturation, filter and chorus either in the feedback loop or on the out. Also has reverse and different play head options. Good little app.

  • @Bruques : fwiw, there are also some AUv3 that let one work around the lack of bud to bus sends. ApeMatrix comes with an auv3 that works.

Oh yes, that has been on the shopping list for that reason, good to have it confirmed.

    frippertronics would be one example.

I heard about Robert Fripp but didn’t actually know it’s a completely new genre. That's fantastic. Well, my entertainment hours for tonight are filled up! Thanks! 🤩

I suggest reading up on Eno and Fripp and long tape loops.

I suggest reading up on Eno and Fripp and long tape loops.

Indeed. They used a pair of Revoxes rather than a loop , but same idea: long tape delay, output from the playback head of the second machine fed back into the first. It’s fantastic for making generative textures (see Discrete Music, No Pussyfooting), though Fripp used it more rhythmically later (God Save The Queen, 80s King Crimson).

  • Kosmonaut at 128 beats,(using cc hack) @ 20bpm is 6.4 minutes?

Even though two machines were used, the tape was still a loop. These were loops strung between two machines — sometimes the loops were very long with the two machines quite quite far from each each other… if memory serves two decks were use because it was the only practical way with the equipment available to Eno at the time to create such long loops.. which were sometimes 70 feet long.

Sorry, but it wasn’t always a tape loop. Diagram from Discrete Music sleeve, where the second machine take up reel is the master tape:

FWIW the detailed Tamm book on Eno is Annas Archive 'd should that be of interest.

Few years back I learned a lot about reverberation and delays. I really like that subject very much, especially sub 30 ms. But more than a few sec delay was for me echo from Alps, you know ‘Yodeling’ ground. ;) I never invested more time to explore this part of the audio phenomena. I can see now what I have missed out.

‘Discreet Music’ is one phenomenal creation of art, which was blasphemy to dig down into technical matters. Not any more.

Instant favorite for me is this Robert Fripp live orchestra of guitarists delaying each other. I really wish to be there to experience this as it should be. 🤩

  • @Luxthor : I highly recommend Fripp and Eno’s album Evening Star

Already on my schedule for listening, thanks! 🤩

  • @Luxthor That video is wonderful! I’d not seen this stuff before.

  • Hi you could make a delay in audulus 4 using the delay line module and using the expression node to dictate the required amount of time. I can send one I made myself as an auv3 plug-in Fx if it’s of any use…

  • JacobHaq has a great YT video on mLFO for really long/slow time. If you could control your delay from one or more LFOs, then his video on mLFO is definitely worth checking out. mLFO is a series of LFOs, 16 as I recall, so you can make things take days.

I would be curious to see the Audulus patch…it would probably be a welcome addition on the patchstorage site.

That is a good shout. I don't have Audulus Patching IAP (yet), but, I will do that at some point, I will holler back as and when, thank you!
