Big old racist as well, which is a shame as he’s great with the Electribe

  • Makes sense that he’d play the “Elect Tribe”.

  • Great music! 😳 Kinda makes me want to crack open Electribe Wave and have a play in it as a standalone app.

    I think it's rather Groove Rider GR-16 😉

i know mistabishi but somehow the music genre he does doesn’t vibe with me, like it’s technically OK but musically in most cases i doesn’t like it .. this “Modular Theory” dude is musically totally my taste :-)

Well, fortunately I'm not enough “woke”, so i really couldn’t care less about any personal/political views of musician, i have no problem to enjoy just music (or any other form of art) regardless of how “bad” person made it 😂

But as i said, in case of Mista, musically is not exactly my cup of tea in most cases.

  • i agree, when i listen to music I'm not concerned if the person is 'good' or 'bad'. If there are no lyrics involved, then the music remains completely subjective to me personally.

That’s pretty much my stance too, most of the time. He’s particularly repugnant though. I draw the line at brown shirts. YMMV ✌️

Musically the stuff in your OP is much more to my taste too. I’ve subscribed to their channel now so cheers!

Where are you getting the impression that person is a racist? That’s quite an accusation to make about someone. Do you know him personally? Doesn’t seem to be anything in his music that is coded or with a hidden hateful message?

He used to post on a dnb forum I lurk on, has also made a lot of far right comments on his Twitter feed. His record label dropped him over it, Korg also distanced themselves from him. He’s sanitised his feeds since then but the statements put out by his (ex) commercial partners are out there on the record. Can we leave it there as I shouldn’t really have derailed the thread?

  • I miss when we used to be able to swap the OS on the Electribe 2 to switch between the sampler and synth version, that was pretty cool if not officially endorsed.

Have you looked at Hacktribe? It turns it into a hybrid of the two.

I recall he’s been pretty openly racist. Plenty on Google if you do a cursory search. It’s a shame he’s such an arse because his stuff is sometimes really good.

Nice to know something is out there still, even if I’ve moved on from the Electribe at this point. 🙂

  • Excellent find!

I’m still convinced that these things will catch on once they’re fully discontinued. There are a bunch of little workflow and quality-of-like issues that add up quickly, but I’d be willing to accept almost all of them from “vintage gear.” I haven’t used my 2S at all since buying an ESX-1 last year, but I’m keeping it around because I love what it’s capable of.

Absolutely. I had my EA1 repaired last week and I’m very happy to have it working again. It’s a pretty unconvincing analog emulation, but a great sequencer and a fantastic lo-fi delay. The ES-1 still gets plenty of use, too. It’s great to synch the ea1 up with ielectribe on the iphone and feed the audio in.

  • i wonder if korg will ever release a new model?

  • I'd be surprised if they didn't the electribe series was a big seller for them. Hopefully they can fix some of the more annoying issues the series 2 versions.

  • So great that Electribes have been creeping back into stock the last year or two. Hilarious too, when you consider how old the machine is. It’s an incredible all-in-one unassuming marvel. Would love a new one to be released.

  • @dendy
    Awesome one, mate
And mista may not be your cup of tea, but if Doom is, check this video (I recall posting in another thread another day )

  • Got 5 Electribe boxes and they’re all good at something. Really depends on how they’re used. The limitations of the contemporary Electribe 2’s are for me a huge asset. The cool thing is that the once sought after MX sounds way different than the new grey or blue. Those two are pretty digital but in a good way. The limited pattern length really makes you squeeze your creativity. I like them a bunch. I eventually added a few Elektron machines into my little studio and love the crap out of them. I’ve recently been back to the MX, 2, and ER-1 combined with the digitakt and Cycles, it’s fun as hell. The engines are so different that it most certainly creates a nice juxtaposition in the mix. Super underrated boxes.

  • I just wish the newer ones had like 8 more voices of polyphony, 😥

And without polyphony stealing by some FXs or filter types ! Definitely more powerful CPU would be great ..
Also 2 global SEND fxs (delay / reverb) would be perfect.

I had E2 in past and i had also EMX-1 .. there are things i like more on EMX-1 (8 bars pattern vs. 4 bars pattern, more knobs/ buttons for better hand's on control), there are things i like more on E2 (more tracks, polyphony, more interesting osciilator types, format - smaller, ableton live export to SD card is SUPER cool, batteries)

I am trying to convince myself that my ST/DT/DN combo is all i need for rest of my life but I still play with idea of building another alternative production/jamming setup with E2 synth + E2 sampler ... i learned that merging different grooveboxes together just doesn't work that well for me (especially for live performance), but having next to Elektron boxes another alternative setup with Electribes would for sure spark my creativity :)

In my perfect world, i would love to have multiple setups build on same type of grooveboxes (elektron setup, korg setup, roland setup, novation setup) cause nothing inspires me more that to switch my work enviroment here and there ..

Only problem is that needs a lot of money lol .. and space .. and fucking cables, oh gosh i hate cables sooo much lol :-D

  • @dendy For me, GR-16 is a great E2-Synth plus E2-Sampler in one and it runs as a rock solid guy next to my EMX1. An iPad Mini sitting in an iTrack Dock.

    🤐

  • Korg could make a fantastic new Electribe I believe, if they would maybe add some analogue elements to it like a compressor and drive.

Yeah, GR16 is nice, nondoubt, it’s just that when i get my “hw groovebox” creativity phase, i just want to grab piece of solid hw with physical knobs ;) On iPad i always tend to end just in NS ..
