to be fair this guy didn't start it. someone else raised issues. but i agree let just talk about music.
I craved for an ESX for a long time, then came the E2, and even without it's limitatons, I guess I would get it now instead of the ESX. But actually, i'm pretty confortable using GR16 besides the EMX too
Yeah without doubt if physicall contact with knobs and pads and intention to avoiding big (touch) screen is not your goal, then GR16 is totally superrior to both EMX1 or Electribe2. It’s great app.
Pretty curious on what is secretly @jimpavloff working and when it will be finished - i feel in my bones it will be something absolutely fantastic - my bets are it is either RM1x clone, or Octatrack, or something like that :-)
That would be awesome. Another one I would love to see adapted is Yamaha DX200
As a side note, i've been using Launchpad MK3 to control GR and Drambo. Still trying to get the hang of it, but I feel empty sometimes too just tapping the screen
Both have their advantages.
EMX is still great, and I mean really great fun tweaking the knobs in the synthesis section and even though I wished for an ESX originally, I don't regret at all getting an EMX instead.
What GR16 adds is a lot of sample mangling power and a more advanced sequencer:
It's 4-voice polyphonic,
It can have up to 16 tracks each with up to 16 sample slices,
It can use Serum wavetables in the synth,
P-locks are visible, and
Notes in the sequencer can be shifted in fine increments and there are many note FX.
And for some reason it feels quite like using a hardware box.
I wish I had one!
i had DX200 and honestly Digitone is MUCH more interesting FM based geoovebox in almost any aspect (better modulstion capabilities, better filter, polyphony/multitimbrality, better FX setion, and of course sequencer)
Really? I have a DT and I always thought DX200 would be quite a different beast - but thanks indeed! 🙏
DX is not bad .. it is DX7 engine, so you can get great sounds from it too .. it’s just that it has only one track of synthesis, edit capabilities are a bit limited (it’s a kinda similiar approach like digitone but less advanced).. other 3 tracks are just drum samples which are mostly a bit oldschool, not much useable for modern music genres .. (honestly i didn’t find them useable even 15 years ago when i had it:-))
That's interesting to know. In fact, I would love them all, to be honest: DX200, Digitone and Model:Cycles
The M:C itch I handled with the ZX81 Drambo patches. Although yesterday I was thinking even elastic drums could do it (maybe, didn't actually investigate the subject)
I've recently learned that KQ Dixie can layer up to 8 DX7 sounds on a cheap iPhone. The perfect sound module for the Digitone's MIDI tracks
