Gong Amp takes an exciting experimental amplifier from the beginnings of electronic music to the plugin world of today.
In 1932, Maurice Martenot was looking for a way to make his groundbreaking proto synthesizer “Ondes” audible beyond what could be archived with the horns and loudspeakers of the time. He developed a set of “diffuseurs”, of which the “Métallique” was one. Instead of a paper cone or horn, Martenot put a gong behind the amplifier circuitry. This seemingly simple idea resulted in resonances and brilliant overtones that excite audiences to this day.
In 2011, the French company Eowave took inspiration from Martenot’s invention and made their own version, the Resonator Metallik. When we heard what our friend, Berlin composer Hainbach, did with this rare and discontinued amplifier, we knew this sound needed to be available to more than a select few. So we made Gong Amp, our third collaboration with Hainbach since Motors and Wires.
Using a complex mixture of convolution processing, physical modeling, and feedback systems, we created an instrument that is true to the responsiveness of the original and even transcends it in terms of sound design possibilities.

Oh, yeah! Been waiting for this one
Audiothing is super weird. Ina good way.
Man I can't wait!
Hell yeah, this one is a trip to play with
Really looking forward to this one!
love this on desktop.
Ooooooo yes! I remember when Hainbach made his video about this when the desktop one was released. I wanted it so bad then and still want it so bad now lol can’t wait for this one 🤙🏼
Yes! Have been waiting for this one since I first heard Audiothing were coming to iOS. All being well, I will do a premiere on this with Hainbach in the house, and maybe Carlo from Audiothing too. Stay tuned!
You should steal his lovable intro and beat him to the punch. “Hello, I am….Gavinski.” Although I guess it doesn’t work as well without that sharp, authoritative “bach” at the end.
And I should steal the 'good to have you back line'.. And the Xmas jumpers. People seem to love those jumpers 😂
Ooooo man! Keep us updated, that sounds awesome 🤩
Having heard so many people say good things about this I’m really looking forward to it.
It’s out:

Oh I can’t pass this. Gonna put my cuíca through it 🙌
Don’t have time to do a walkthrough on this after all, as I’m in the middle of relocating, mad busy, but I do have a Twitter giveaway!
Check out this tweet and follow the instructions for a chance to win a free copy of Gong Amp!
Anyone else have problems loading this is Logic pro? Tried an iPad restart. A Logic Pro force quit, still no luck. iPad pro 3rd gen - 16.6
actually opened up a blank project and it loaded fine. Not sure what the glitch was.
NEVER MIND: I was trying to load it as an instruments and NOT as an FX app. I was thinking it was a synth I could throw MIDI at. It’s an amp that processes incoming audio.
It’s certainly showing up fine on my iPad, for what it’s worth..
Oh, this is a good one! So many hands on variables, feels very responsive to my inputs. Gonna play with it properly over the next couple of days but first impressions are that it’s a real knit-your-own-Hainbach machine (working fine in AUM on iPad)
Also - what other app has a button that lets you stuff a cushion in it?
I still need more incentive to get interested in this FX, so I'll patiently watch this thread. 😅
I also love that you can trigger the gong sound by touching the gong image.
Have a shufti at Doug’s video from this evening for a start.
I thought this would be a bit boring, it’s actually amazing! It made random noises from blippoo box sound like violins at one point!!
If you like Objeq and those added percussive metallic tones then you will probably like this. I added it to Hip Hop drummer and it opened more dimension. So, I put it on its own mix bus and sent Hip Hop Drummer and a couple PianoTeq Instances. It’s a useful FX to add more spectrum to percussive inputs. I’m going to test some ambient synth tones and see if I like the extra flavoring.
Here’s a demo of GongAmp added to some Ambient Synth input… It’s toggled off and on every 10 seconds:
0-10 OFF
10-20 ON
20-30 OFF
30-40 ON
40-50 OFF
50 to end ON… I start pulling out the inputs to show how it holds the sounds at 1:20.
I like it’s extra spectral metallic tones and it’s uses as a large scale reverb.
Just watched Doug’s @thesoundtestroom video demonstrating it - sounds so good!
This sounds great! Between this and Combustor we have all the tools to make an unholy resonator mayhem!
These dudes are on it. Love each and every one. So useful and really fun to use.
