Drambo design thoughts with elements of Dagger and Combustor

Continuing the discussion from the Dagger thread…

I’ve done a very quick version of the mockup with light modules, this time with 2 mixer modules to show how coloured knobs could work.

I did wonder what would work better for you - light on dark or dark on light.

Perhaps this could just be an optional light skin.

    Yes, that's a better option!
I'm mostly in 'dark mode' to when applicable as it doesn't cause as much eye-strain as light mode does.

I'm also in favor of a fully 'Scalable UI' to make things bigger and easier to see.
(think scaling the whole UI anywhere from 100% to 150%, some may prefer to shrink it down as well).

i spend hours in Drambo every day, wouldn’t change a thing about the UI

  • +1 for light modules!

    Ok, I'm in :)

It's nice, but IMO colors don't work that well on a bright background (especially in small elements, like morph markers).

I've been considering such an alternative for coloured headers (that are indeed bit too eye catching):

(edit: it's bit spoiled here by a bright background)

  • Are the morph markers these tiny coloured marks on knobs?:

If so I totally see what you mean. I can’t think of a way for them to stand out more on a light bg.

This does look really smart :)

  • I want to add it to upcoming update as an option.

Is there any possibility of choosing your own highlight colour per module or track? Or does it mess with the connection system?

    For now it's automatic

I dont like colored header text tbh, looks too acidy and distracting. Also whitish knobs could be more dark grey. We need a hue adjustment control I guess:) or maybe I will get used to it because you know better.

Yes, I'm expecting this, especially now. As many opinions as people, so this will be optional.
@rvr are they more distracting than colored headers?

  • 👽🙏

I like the lighter module background, but I dislike losing the top of the module bar without full color. Like this you only spot connections by the header text color which while aesthetically pleasing makes it even harder to visualize connections, in my opinion

yeah exactly, instant psychedelic trance, love it a lot 🤣

it should be named “psytrance skin” vs. “default skin” 🤣

Colored headers are cool, for me its just the text is jumping out if colored like that. But as you see, opinions are like.. you know. Everybody has one😂

As a new skin option is wonderful, I like it. 👍 Of course you can add even more colors like lines on top of the module header, just in case when you name it with few or no letters at all. That same line will visually split tracks in a better way than just text.

One more thing, those rascals that are not using Drambo but demand skins, need to pay for redemption as soon as that skin lands in the app store. 😂

The lines at top do help for visual separation of modules. Could work as an accent color too, which is active when you're interacting with the module or the last one interacted with. This stuff is pretty subjective, so agree skin option is a good approach.

Just did a quick mockup of what I mean by light mode:

Edit: well the screenshot of accessibility -> invert colors, reverted to normal when I turned off that setting, so this comment didn’t turn out as I wanted

Is there a way to screenshot how it looks in invert color mode? I can photograph the screen 😂

  • edited August 2023

I really like Drambo with the iOS invert color setting, though?
And what’s smart invert? Doesn’t do anything afaict

As long as it’s optional, I’m all for people having their preferences.

I wonder how much extra work for @giku_beepstreet to implement a reverse color in drambo’s settings (so I wouldn’t have to go to general settings when I’m in a “light” mood)

You guys have to think of practicality, don’t turn this into a combustor/dagger thread 😅
