TaS-X Tremelo/Slicer (Released)

New app from the developer of the (also new) PD-1 analog delay. Looks pretty neat. Kinda similar to the Bleass app maybe? Wish there were some demos. Anyone tried the delay yet?

@HotStrange here you can find a too-long-really-boring-no-way-exhaustive demo of both the plug-ins but this is just for you to get an idea. I know the dev is working hard to improve both and polish their UI, in my opinion there is still some work to be done but there is also a great potential, I especially like the delay timbre.

Hey thanks for this! I’m about to head to bed but will be watching this when I have my morning coffee. Excited to finally see a demo as they’re both on my short list right now.

So just finished this. Great demo, btw! And I’m really liking the sound of that delay. Gritty, Lo-Fi, kinda dirty sounding. Just like I like them 😂 appreciate the demo. Which of the apps do you prefer? I’ll probably get the delay first but both are on the list.

The tremolo made my ipad extemely hot very quickly. The dev is working on that, seems like a nice guy, I'd maybe wait for an update to be honest! It's a decent tremolo, but it's definitely no AUv3 version of Johnny, unfortunately!

Gotcha, thanks! I’ll keep an eye out for the update. Did you try the delay also?

Is the Tremelo kinda going for the same thing as Dragonfly or is it doing it’s own thing?

Could not compare to dragonfly in a million years. Dragonfly is its own thing, far more experimental

  • The delay has quite a nice character. The filter etc seems pretty quality. Tbh these are both pretty simple apps and if you have as many delays as I think you have I'm not sure you need this. So many good vintage delays came out last year. The tremolo is nice enough too but I can think of other ones I'd grab before it. Dev seems nice, I think they have potential but couldn't see myself grabbing the tremolo often, would rather use something more experimental like wov or even some of the tremolo fx these moogerfoogers are capable of.

And then also from K-Devices lfoh used as a tremolo would probably suit your particular experimental-oriented needs much more.

  • Definitely if just grabbing one I'd get the delay

Dragonfly does tremolo and then gets into amplitude modulation doesn’t it? I’ve been wanting to try that one when I get around to it.

  • I definitely have a feeling that the dev will work on these and develop them further. Lots of potential for sure

Yeah, it's one of the really special ones imo

I bought the app to encourage a new solo developer. There are months when I’ll appreciate the extra heat.

But your comment made me re-visit the Holderness apps from 2015. I’m swimming in a haze of Rhodes through
“Crystalline - Shimmer Reverb Effects Processor”. It’s not AUv3 due to its inception date but who cares. It is gorgeous.
I’m sure many of my shimmer FX apps could come close but still… it just gets there so quickly.

Ah, those Holderness apps! Someone just make a new auv3 version of Johnny, it's no longer on the app store, though crystalline is

I have some more credits so I jumped on Dragonfly too… lot’s of invention there. I do wish something in AUv3 got close to those Holderness FX’es tho. Dragonfly with more Reverb (Phonolyth Cascade for example) gets pretty damn close.

  • Actually that pd-1 delay does have a hell of a lot of character

Yep and it’s amazing. Probably a top 5-10 effect app in general for me. I usually throw it on everything just to see if it works. It usually does 😂 highly recommended

Thanks Gav! I love all those K Devices apps. WOV is a favorite for sure. LFOH can be very useful as well though.

Like you said, I’ll probably go for the delay first. I’m a sucker for a vintage (or any) delay and have most of the ones on the App Store but that one seems very characterful from the demo posted. Looks like it’s kinda similar to the new-ish dub delay app but with a focus on vintage BBD. Since they both have the distortion and filter lines in the signal. Obviously doing their own things though.

Think I’ll pick it up and then keep an eye on the Tremelo for now. Maybe in the coming weeks I’ll grab it too.

If the tremolo gets separate rates / depths and waveforms for left and right (not just offset) it will become more interesting to me - it will then be approaching the hallowed Johnny territory! If it did I'd be whipping out some xy pads to play it with faster than you can say 'Girlfriend in a Coma' 😂

Still can't believe no-one has just made basically an auv3 copy of Johnny and some of those other vanished Holderness classics

There’s a lack of really cool/unique tremolos on iOS compared to the amount of cool reverbs, delays, flangers, etc so if they can add some stuff like that, I think they’ll have a winner on their hands.

I only ever had a couple of those Holderness apps but they sounded beautiful! Hopefully the dev will stick with it! Sorta just came out of nowhere, so hoping they won’t also disappear out of nowhere too.

There’s a lack of really cool/unique tremolos on iOS compared to the amount of cool reverbs, delays, flangers, etc so if they can add some stuff like that, I think they’ll have a winner on their hands.

They already have disappeared mostly. Only one or two are left on the appstore Johnny, for example, is gone, but luckily I still have it on my ipad

Like a dummy I never really tried any besides the reverbs and a delay. I did love them though! Think they’re offloaded now but the reverb in particular sounded amazing. He was a great programmer.

Now it’s got me thinking, what cool Tremolo effects do we really have? There’s the Neon Silicon one (which is great), Undulator, and the MoDelayrium app which comes with a cool tremolo, but outside of those and Dragonfly, there’s really not much beyond a couple of other typical tremolo effects. So maybe the dev is on to something here.

The delay has quite a nice character.

Thanks Gav! I love all those K Devices apps. WOV is a favorite for sure. LFOH can be very useful as well though.

As mentioned above, both wov and lfoh by K-Devices are really interesting creative tremolos. I suppose you can make your own setups by bussing, splitting left and right audio and using separate tremolo apps on each, perhaps modulated by different lfos etc

I mostly use WOV for weird gating stuff so I guess I never even think about it as a Tremolo, even though it’s all similar.
