Pro Tools Sketch - clip launcher for iPad

So looks like Avid have finally jumped on the non-linear arranging thing with "ProTools Sketch" and there's a free iPad app to go with upcoming ProTools 2023.9 for desktop.

No other details - whether it's just avid instruments or whether it'll host AUv3, etc

Interesting, nonetheless.

looks like rather limited enviroment (something like Note from Ableton, or even more limited) - but it is good that another big company is joining the game.. iOS slowly starting to enter new era…

Anyway, not expecting too much advanced features, target audience is probably the type of guys like the one in first video 🤣

For the sake of clarity I was making a (clearly shit) joke on the many “is xyz a genius” threads on here.

I don’t actually have an opinion on avids genius or otherwise despite being a pt user for close to 30 years - for someone who grew up with tape and large format consoles it’s always been the daw that made most sense to me and it’s without a doubt the industry standard. But other daws are available and whatever works, right? (I’ve been doing almost all my writing over the last few years on an iPad with AUM / cubasis / other stuff which is why I’m here)

Aaaaaand, despite a previous life as an economist, I don’t have a strong opinion about their going private again. May be good or may be their undoing.

i'll circle back to PT/Avid when they shed the iLok.....
    until then, zero ____ given

  • The video is not that good and the comments here are not very good neither BUT I'm really digging the app he shows!

  • Hhhmmm I use ProTools almost every day but I also have Ableton Suite and Push 2….not sure I need another clip launcher tbh. We’ll see how it goes.

  • I’m assuming it’ll only be free if you already have a Pro Tools license. Has there been confirmation on that? Or is it like Note where it’s separate but usable together?

Even the way he says 'that's fire' (4 times in a row, no less) was so unconvincing. Cracked me up 😂

When it comes to advertising speak the one thing I hate more than soulless corporate mumbo jumbo is when they try to sound hip instead 😂 it’s cringeworthy and infuriating to me.

this kind of people and advertisement is exactly what makes me not event thinking about touching this app 🤣🤣🤣

ladys’ and gentlemen,i am confident to say that we here definitely are’t target audience for this product, most of us wears not enough fancy swag and golden chains to be classifies as potential users of this app 😂😂

    on serious note:

I am still very glad, especially when it will be free, it will definitely send signal to other big companies .. It’s good for ecosystem frowth even if it will be close system just for niche small group of users

Those big companies are competing to see which one will alienate the iOS music-making platform more. We will see, Ableton is a hard competitor already. 😂

It will likely sell the app to wannabes making them think that if they use the tools their 'idols' use they can be the next big thing.
Nah, I mean what's next Avid including Booz and Joints with the new purchase?!?

  • This ‘Tool’ is reminding me of something?! 😂

  • That must be the DAW that Craig David used….

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wearing chains. I wear them myself occasionally. And rap/hiphop is where a lot of modern creativity and trailblazing music is right now.

But these cliched and cheesy ads are just so annoying.

It reminds me that some companies are terrible at marketing.

  • It will be interesting to see what the connectivity and export options are like - ie. Can it be used with other IOS apps or will it only export to desktop Pro Tools?

I think it’ll be similar to Note. It’ll export to Pro Tools and will also have a built in recorder to export full tracks or stems elsewhere. Highly doubt it’ll have any other connectivity or AU capability.
