The more Pro apps test the platform the better.

The iPad is a Pro tool for music making and the more people realize this the better it will be for the platform.

“If they build it they will come…” is our field of ‘music creation’ dreams.

This workflow reminds me a little of the BM3 Clip launcher workflow.

looks like rather limited enviroment (something like Note from Ableton, or even more limited) - but it is good that another big company is joining the game.. iOS slowly starting to enter new era…

Anyway, not expecting too much advanced features, target audience is probably the type of guys like the one in first video 🤣

Even the way he says 'that's fire' (4 times in a row, no less) was so unconvincing. Cracked me up 😂

This ‘Tool’ is reminding me of something?! 😂

It reminds me that some companies are terrible at marketing.

This and the other one are so god damn cringe!!!!!! You have to wonder who came up with the idea to get these people to make this video and how much they were paid. Maybe they are talented at their day jobs, but this is so low effort on every level. Great inadvertent comedy value, mind you, lol

  • One can only imagine what Cubasis 4 will bring to the table… Seems the iPad is in the spotlight now..

  • Gotta admit I like the structure of Sketch. Reminds me of Ableton. It's funny. They say this app is free. There doesn't appear to be away to record without Pro Tools. Not really free if you have to buy the DAW to record. Screen capture video? I'll go back to Live Loops in GarageBand. Not fond of it. But at least I can record.

I’m excited to see what they’ll do. I love cubasis 3 but have switched to Logic for now.

Maybe they will beat Ableton at their own game, ‘clip launching’… It is a shame that NI just let iMaschine go… It’s why I bought into Maschine.. Other companies are now seeing this strategy.. The iPad is where it is at..

Maybe so. Ableton doesn’t seem more interested in exploring any deeper than they have with Note at the moment but who knows in the future. I’m excited to see where it goes though. With Cubase having long been on the platform and now Logic, it makes sense more and more companies will be focusing on iOS.

When the Sketch browser opens a Files window, click the “Open” button in the upper right and all contents will be accessible. I mentioned on another thread that I keep loop and sample packs together in a higher level folder. Opening that in Sketch reveals all the sub folders in the Sketch browser.

Not quite on a par with the infamous Dub Turbo advertising, but still pretty bad…

For some reason AudioShare (where all my stuff is) are not accessible via this system even if I choose the whole 'My iPad'. Or do you know how to reach those files as well. iCloud works fine but I don't want to clog that one up with all files I already have so nicely in AudioShare.

I just recorded my guitar straight in so no problem there.

This is simply because it's not possible to 'link' to objects (files and folders etc.) shared by a 'storage provider extensions' such as AudioShare, DropBox etc.

It's only possible to 'copy' objects from them.

Maybe someday AudioShare will just manage all the files stored in regular folders and the 'storage provider extension' can completely removed as it's no longer needed and causes more issues than it used to solve in the past.

A good start would be to 'cut the bond' between AUM and AudioShare and allow saving AUM recordings directly to a specified folder in Files.app. I mean AUM already stores project files in a folder in Files.app so why not the recordings as well?

But sure, old habits are hard to shake...

Well I don't know one yota about file handling so ... I just want it to work😂 Have you suggested to Jonatan what you say above? He supposedly working on quite an upgrade, would be sad if these limitations where still there then.

It's been mentioned multiple times here over the years and as far as I know he's aware of it so the 'next' AudioShare should be able to work with directly with any file/folder on the device not just it's those files/folders stored in its own 'sandbox'.

Ironically the 'quickest' work-around here would be to enable visibility of AudioShare's 'Documents' folder in Files.app and move all the files & folders into the 'iTunes File Sharing' folder (In Audio Share) and voila all the files would be easily accessible without the 'File Provider Extension' in an AudioShare folder directly under Files.app with zero need to use the file-provider extension.

I'm quite sure @j_liljedahl has some ideas as well how this could be done in a smooth way.
(I'd be more than happy to do beta on the future Audio Share app).

    Cheers!

Yes, this is more or less how I'm thinking for AudioShare 3. I could perhaps already now just enable the AudioShare Documents folder in the current version, but am afraid it would cause confusion seeing two different "AudioShare" folders/locations in the Files App, and not knowing that one of them equals the "iTunes File Sharing" folder inside AudioShare.

BTW, File Provider extensions can allow access to folders, but it seems quite rare, and unfortunately I have no idea how. One example is "ShellFish".

I guess one way would be to alert the user to 'turn it off' in the side-bar of Files.app because I don't think this action not not be 'automated' from the host?! (ie. no 'remote control' of other apps or system services).

    Good to know!

Maybe they do some tricks behind the scenes like create aliases/links to the store-provider objects and put to those links/aliases in the folder that is visible directly under Files.app?

So in the case of AudioShare it might be enough to show the 'iTunes Folder' and create aliases to the objects stored in the 'shared storage container' and put the aliases in the iTunes folder? (That would be almost too easy if it worked).

I guess Apple isn't that helpful when it comes to these kind of issues?

    Cheers!

No, it's not tricks, it's how to implement a File Provider plugin correctly, which unfortunately is not well documented.

So in the case of AudioShare it might be enough to show the 'iTunes Folder' and create aliases to the objects stored in the 'shared storage container' and put the aliases in the iTunes folder? (That would be almost too easy if it worked).

I'm pretty sure I tried that once, and it didn't work. But the other way works: the "iTunes File Sharing" folder inside AudioShare is actually a symlink (alias) inside the file provider storage pointing to the local Documents folder.
However, this can't be accessed from anywhere but inside AudioShare app, so this trick wouldn't work in Files app.

Maybe the developers of the said app might be willing to share how they implemented it?!
That would greatly benefit the entire iOS/iPad community...

Yeah, feel free to contact him! Secure Shellfish is the full app name.
Personally I won't look into it now, since AudioShare 3 will get rid of the File Provider plugin.

After figuring out how to import my own loops (thanks again to @Jumpercollins) I gotta say, I’m warming up to Sketch a lot more. It’s a free, simple clip launcher that does a great job. Not sure it could replace Launchpad or Logic for me, but if can manage to fill Launchpads hole and save me $8 a month, I’ll be happy.

In fact the entire iPad file system sucks.

  • Is there a way to export single clip lanes into audiostems, or only the entire project?

  • After messing around with it off and on for a few days I’m kinda starting to dig this app. For free it’s excellent and there’s lots of potential here. For launching all my own weird drones, it’s a lot of fun. If it had the performative effects of Launchpad I could cancel another subscription. But alas, not yet.

  • @Bob said:

Just do a scene with the clip you want to single out and drag that scene only to the arrangement: and export. There is no way to single out stuff from the arranger if you have multiple scenes.
