Finally getting my 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max tomorrow.
In today's episode of "Sh-t Happens", I dropped my iPhone SE 2 on the corner of my desk. The screen protector cracked, but I had a spare. I removed the cracked screen protector, and the screen underneath was also cracked. 🙄😆 Fml, lol.
Anyways, I ultimately decided months ago that my iPhone SE 2 was just fine, and I didn't need a new phone. I was saving up money for something else, and welp, now I get my 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max. $1350 from Amazon where normally that'd cost about $1600. Of course I went with the dark purple, lol.
Unlike the iPhone SE 2 where I would consider it a challenge to produce music on, the 14 Pro Max's screen is large enough where it can function comfortably enough as a portable studio in my pocket.

New iPhones are going to be announced very soon, so if you want the latest model you might be able to trade yours back in.
Thanks mate. I'm not looking for the 15 but rather I just want something with a large screen and large storage space that works.
I see. In that case, any recent model would be more than adequate. 👍
Thanks mate. I'm glad,
Sorry to hear but at least you get a new phone 😆
I’m gonna upgrade when the 15 comes out I think. I have a 13 now and usually only upgrade every 4 years but the 13 has given me lots of problems (and it seems I’m not alone there) so I’m ready to upgrade.
13 is an unlucky number, rofl! 😂
🤣 tell me about it. And I got the pro max so it’s extra unlucky 😂
Hahaha yeesh!
It’s bad luck to be superstitious.
What problems?
My wife just bought a 13 🫣
Off the top of my head:
Camera. My phone occasionally (once a week or more) refuses to acknowledge the camera. It’ll just be a black screen or it will immediately freeze. Same with video. And same for front or back facing. I’ve even had a pop up saying “unknown part” for the camera insinuating it’s been replaced by a third party when I got new directly from apple and have never had it replaced.
Freezes. My phone will regularly freeze completely and will sometime not respond to hard resets until multiple tries (3 or more).
Screen will randomly go black with a spinning white wheel. That will last for a few seconds before restarting again. Does this multiple times a week.
Phone will occasionally randomly just restart.
Phone will occasionally randomly slow down. Like it’s moving in slow motion. Thought this was data or wifi issues but it does it even when I have 5G and has done it with multiple different wifi routers.
There’s more I’m sure I’m forgetting. My wife has the same phone and has all the same issues and then some. We’ve both had them since release and they’ve done this since release. No real damage to the phones or anything. Haven’t been dropped in a meaningful way and no sustained water damage. We got them a couple years ago and immediately began having troubles. By far the worst iPhone I’ve ever had. It’s so bad that my wife is refusing to use an iPhone ever again and is switching to Android. I still use my phone for music so I can’t switch but I don’t blame her for doing so.
Wow - that is a frightening list.
Thank you for the detailed response.
It is crazy critical that an expensive item like a iPhone doesn’t function properly.
I would not have bought an iPhone one week before the next one launches. Even if not buying the latest model, prices usually come down on everything else with the announcement of new models.
I thought it being $1350 from $1600 was the price reduction. 🤔
Lol!
FWIW, I have a 13 Pro Max, and have had no problems with it. It's the first phone I've had that I actually liked, out of perhaps a dozen+ assorted iPhones, androids, and a blackberry...
You can do a lot on a Pro Max
Shoot I’m still using an 11 Pro max as my main phone, and don’t have any plans on upgrading anytime soon.
Of course I don’t use it for much other than texts and phone calls. All my music stuff is done on my 12.9” 1TB M1.
So when I do get around to getting a new phone one day, I think I’m going to get the most basic one. (Like a regular iPhone 15 or “SE” or whichever name they give it)
I found my original iPhone 4 the other day, and it felt so tiny in my hand after using all these “Pro Max” sized phones! I really wish they’d come back down to these sizes (4/5) at least as an option.
Anyway, congrats on your new phone! Have fun!
I thought they did that with the SE? I remember when it was first announced it was said to be the same size as the 5 was.
I usually only upgrade every few years. Went from a 6s+ (my favorite iPhone I’ve had) to a 10 and then the 13, so every 4ish years. But I’ve had so many issues with this one I’m ready to upgrade now even though it’s only been 2.5 years.
No problem! Not everyone has these issues so hers could be fine, but I personally know a few other people that have and have read of other people having issues. I remember a while after it came out reading an article saying it was one of the most problematic iPhones. Even then, it still probably only affected a small portion. Even 10,000 devices is small for apple lol. So hopefully she’ll have good luck!
New iPhones are rumoured to have USB-C..
..this is 1 of the main reasons I haven’t upgraded over the years
iPhone 12 Mini is smaller than the SE but larger screen.
Oof, trying to get this iPhone 14 Pro Max was a pain in the bum. Spent over an hour with Verizon trying to get that shit figured out, rofl. Now it's all functioning just fine, and I'm setting it up with all the music apps.
Yes that’s why I haven’t upgraded from my shitty phone yet.
Switching over to iPhones or just using it as an extra music maker? I can’t keep track of which iPads and phones you have now 😂
I have all my apps from my iPad on my phone as well, just in case lol. I usually only use Koala on my phone and sometimes a couple of others but I guess it’s nice they’re there 😂
USB-C is my ‘excuse’ for upgrading this year. Just wondering if I can fight the temptation to pr-order at midnight or whenever it goes on sale.
Oops, I meant to type "trying to get this iPhone 14 Pro Max to have service was a pain in the bum". Took me and Verizon over an hour to get the phone some service. 😳
But they supposed to have shit usb-c, only apple data cable for data transfer will work or smth like that, same with dongles. No?
I have AT&T unfortunately and an hour sounds great compared to what i usually get with them lol. I’ve been on the phone with them for an entire evening before 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah Verizon is definitely better than AT&T and other carriers, in my own opinion ymmv.
