Yes, confirmed ! 😭
This is probably the number 1 issue to fix.
export/import your own zip is also broken,
no matter if i do single instruments or whole library.
I've noticed that too
Only very minor thing changed with this version, can't think of what caused multiple problems. Will check & come back
maybe it was there before and i never tried all options audiolayer has? it got a few😅
just finding out cause i have to reimport my stuff again, because audiolayer doesn't do anything with my exported 12gb audiolayer librarie zip file.
On my side, no problem to reimport my exported zip.
I think I have fixed now all mentioned problems but one:
@Birdpie I couldn't reproduce the export/import problem here. How do you reimport your exported zip file? How much free memory does you have before trying to import 12GB?
SFZ import is working here. Please keep in mind that if the sfz files with samples are not inside the AudioLayer folder the only way to import them is to select the folder containing the sfz file(s) and all used sample with the "Import batch" option inside AudioLayer.
i tried a few ways, in and outside of the audiolayer folder.
shall i send you the imported instruments that give me a instant crash?
i double check the zip story this evening.
if you can send me the file this would be great!
Hello @VirSyn ,
Sorry to bother again but, unless I have misunderstood the feature (not described in the manual by the way, because probably added later) the « threshold » in auto sampling mode does not seem to override the sustain/release times. If I want the auto sampler to skip to the next note as soon as the recorded sound level goes below the threshold, I don’t know how to do. It always records the indicated time values.
Thank you 🙏
If there is only one threshold command, I think it would be for triggering the start only. In typical usage one wants the whole note decay. If the start threshold were used, you would lose the note decay. He’d need to add another preference for ending the note.
Ah, so the threshold would be used to detect the start of the sound for manual recording ?
Because the parmeter appears also in auto sampling mode. So I guessed it would be used to stop the recording of the note as soon as the decay is fully done and avoid recording additional silence.
In my use case, I record an instrument whose decay last 15 sec in the very low register and only 4 sec in highest register.
So I must set sustain time = 15 sec anyway but then it records 15 sec for every 88 notes instead of optimizing for higher notes and save a lot of space, you see ?
But you are probably right about the expected behavior of this feature. It’s just that having the « threshold » parameter appearing also in auto sampling mode can be a bit confusing.
My mistake. I just took a look again. Threshold is the threshold for trimming the note end. Note start is when the midi note on is sent.
It is working for me. See the screenshots below. The instrument being triggered has a release time of about 9 seconds.
If I set the threshold to -90, I get long notes. When I set threshold to -40, I get samples less than 1 second long.
When threshold is -90db, I get sample with the full release
When the threshold is -40db, the samples are trimmed to less than a second
I think I am seeing a bug if one auto-samples with one threshold then auto-samples with another one and the same instrument. I’ll try to write up the steps.
I've not even bothered to do any instrument recording with AudioLayer, this since I'm mostly using a multi-channel USB audio-interface when I record samples and can not even find a way to select which input to use or if the samples will be stereo or mono, what sampling rate and bit-depth to use etc.
Using AUM to select the input(s) could work but it'll always end up with dual-mono files wasting storage...
@VirSyn : a couple of auto sampling bugs that i ran into when looking into what Paulo reported.
issue 1. after i create an auto-sampled instrument, i can't play the instrument until I save and reload it. Otherwise, AL shows the animation as if the samples are being triggered, but no audio is played.
issue 2. if i auto-sample into a layer using one threshold then create a new layer and auto-sample and change the threshold setting, the original threshold setting is used rather than the new one. I seem to need to create a new instrument before the new threshold setting is used.
@VirSyn : this video demonstrates how to reproduce the two issues that i mentioned above
Just released 1.9.3...
Harry, one thing I've found... Under Settings > Free Sample Libraries, I find that the VCSL Idiophones and Virtual Playing Orchestra 3 will install, but every time I go back into the Free Sample Libraries menu BOTH of them are shown as "Tap to download", even after I confirm that they are indeed already downloaded.
Also, in the standalone version on desktop if I switch between idiophone patches quickly while testing sounds, it crashes AudioLayer.
Hi @espiegel123 ,
Thanks a lot for these tests.
I think my observation was probably within the scope of your issue #2. Because I remember I selected first threshold = time then tried several times with -xx dB but to no avail… But good to know it works under some conditions (ie. from brand new instrument).
@VirSyn - hello! i just purchased audiolayer 1.9.3 and the standalone is crashing upon trying to open (i see the splash screen briefly, then it crashes) ipad mini 2 ios 12.5.7. is there anything i might try to get it to work? tia!
Restart your iPad then try to uninstall/reinstall.
@offthesky I could reproduce it here with my old iPad mini and as far as I can see there seems to be no way to get it running again with the current version of the development system. This means I have to remove 12.x from the list of supported iOS versions. If you have no device with iOS 13 or higher I suggest that you request a refund from Apple.
Sorry about the bad news
Harry
aww, dang that's too bad. well thank you anyway for the response. will request a refund...
hello.
I have audiolayer 2.0.0 installed. I would like to know if any of you have problems copying and pasting layers?
I have tried copying and pasting layers but it just doesn't respond.
I am also experiencing problems that did not happen in the Keystage app when using audiolayer.
Is the same thing happening to anyone else?****
Actually I just started using this app with keystage, and I am having the same issue copying and pasting layers. I can’t get the AudioLayer app to respond. Can @VirSyn please look into this? This used to be one of my favorite features about AudioLayer (I could use copy/paste layers to create super cool instrument stacks!)
Also though, is anyone else having problems getting the voice/polyphony setting under the instrument layer section to work? This used to work fine and the voice count feature allowed me to limit the polyphony of each auv3 instance so they wouldn’t overload my iPad. I can’t seem to get it to work on this latest version, and even if I set the polyphony to 1 or 2 voices, I still will end up with huge voice counts if I hold down my sustain pedal…and this always ends up crashing the app when I play live!
Honestly if these two issues are fixed, this would literally be the best app I own, literally bringing #KontaktLite to the iPad! @VirSyn please help!
You may want to also contact the dev via his web site. He may only visit here sporadically.
Hi, Im hoping some kind soul could help me out. Ive been pulling my hair out trying to create a multisample of my hardware synth (slim phatty). I have a pretty convoluted set up. I pad is hooked up to a mio 10 for midi distribution and also to an electron Digitone for audio interface. I have been able to create a multisample instrument from my MFB Dominion 1 on midi channel 1 but cant for the life of me get it to trigger and record the slim phatty on midi channel 2 (or any of my other synths for that matter).
Ive tried controlling the slim from other ipad apps Like Aum drambo etc and there is no issues (exact same hardware setup).Im completly stumped getting Audiolayer to multisample it. I dont have any channel filters active.
I dont have alot of experience with Audiolayer or AUM, but I feel with all the trouble shooting I have been doing it should be working.
Would anyone have any suggestions?
Im using an Ipad Air 4th gen with latest OS.
Thanks, Gar.
