    In addition to the previous reply, you can just look at the controls as not having anything special working in the background at the end of the day - that you don't see reflected on the UI. In fact this becomes important when you want to make changes to the configuration (the current automatic workflow that is activated by group selection tries to get out of the way).

    Automatic mechanics that can save you taps are also tricky to design because they can create this illusion of having some sort of magic working in the background, and somehow you need to follow a set of unwritten and arcane rules to get things working.

    Pairing is simply having the correct mode setting, together with a valid group setting in the two instances.
    Changing that configuration is always possible, and the audio processing inside the plugins will respond immediately.
