  • Very melancholy but very contemplative as well. Love watching the gentle movement of the tree and clouds passing.

Next time we are here I think @craftycurate . Were in Dervaig this week which is on the north coast so a bit too far 🤨

Aye, well since Mull proved to be such fertile soil for your creativity, then I'm confident Iona certainly will too, if you like windswept wildness, the open sea, the wide sky and all that kind of thing.

Iona is a wonderful place. Been there both in summer and in winter. I enjoyed both very much. Winter on Iona is great for aurora watching and stargazing. Fantastic night skies without light pollution. Last time I took my telescope with me. Music to listen to: Mike Scott “Peace of Iona”

Fifth day and the rain has finally caught up with us. Despite that, more Golden Eagles than you can shake a stick at 🦅
Simple piece using Decent Sampler played with GeoShred.

Beautiful compositions. This trip has really released the creative energy!. I especially like the guitar tone in this one. It reminds me of the warm, round tone of Pat Metheny. I have Decent Sampler but couldn't find this one. Can you tell me which one you're using?

Yes, I can imagine the lack of light pollution would be perfect for stargazing.

And I’ll check that music out thanks! I can find “Iona Song” by Mike Scott - is that the same one? It begins with “Iona, sweet Iona, Island out of time …” Reminds me a bit of Bob Dylan in his Slow Train Coming era.

Ive been to Iona on a warm summer’s day, on a cold dreich day, but never in winter. I’ll add it to my bucket list.

  • Cheers @AlterEgo_UK and @Paulieworld . The sample is RJS Guitar Paul. I think it is from PianoBook rather than the DS store.

Actually it isn’t. I forgot that “Peace of Iona” is actually a Waterboys song and not just Mike Scott. And I didn’t know that he made another Iona song:

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=u7iCICUrYQ0

  • Sixth and final piece from the Isle of Mull… off on the ferry early tomorrow morning 🚢
Played in one take with GeoShred, Roli Noise Fluid Bass on the lowest two strings and Oceans Lament and Strings and Harp on the top four strings.

  • With skillful hands, you weave a tapestry,
String samples spun in artful harmony.
Your talent shines, a beacon burning bright,
A vision grand, like stars in tranquil night.

Well this has been a lovely thread. Thanks for bringing it to us @GeoTony, and thanks to everyone for the chat around one of my favourite parts of the world ... when you visit Iona, I hope you'll do another one. 🙏

  • Really nice collection of recordings @GeoTony The beautiful scenery only compliments the lovely sounds.

  • Thanks @Edward_Alexander 👍
Probably only of interest to @craftycurate (I’m glad you enjoyed it) and @catherder but having arrived off the ferry without problem in Oban all the roads out are closed due to landslides and floods. We managed to get one of the last rooms in a fairly dingey hotel so are lucky in that respect. A strange end to the week 🤨

OMG. Stay cozy and warm and maybe have a wee dram. I wish you a safe journey home. We had torrential rain over the past 24h. Not too bad here, but I can see a lot is going on at https://traffic.gov.scot/
Hopefully things will be better tomorrow.

Well that's a “right scunner” (for non-Scots readers that means a real pain in the bahoukie (backside), a disappointment, an interruption to something planned).

Maybe an opportunity to improvise a track on the theme of “dingey wee hotel”. Something that captures the dim lighting, frayed maroon carpets, peeling 1950s wallpaper, and general atmosphere of gloom and neglect and stale cigarette smoke 🤪

Lovely finale @GeoTony ! I didn't know you could assign different sounds to different strings in GeoShred or did I misunderstand what you did?

  • Thanks Colin ( @AlterEgo_UK ).
Yes, some of the Midi outputs from GS (depending on what the intended target is) output each string on a different channel. E.g. Midi Out Control outputs the highest string on channel 1 and the lowest string on channel 6.
Midi Out Equator, which is the one I use for Roli Noise goes from channel 2 to channel 7.
