How far off is the Mac version of Loopy Pro?
I know it's been in beta before (yeah?) and is in the works and will happen, but anyone got any ideas how far off it is?
I'm holding out on picking up Ableton Live because Loopy Pro on iPad can actually do everything I want it to do, functionally. But I can't use any of the stuff I've got on Mac with it without extra devices (ie sending audio from Mac DAW to an audio interface input then that go to Loopy Pro and that's a whole bunch of no thanks for gigs).
Trying to get a feel for how far off it is.

Also, I can't see this in Loopy Pro atm when I search for "undo" - is there a way to "undo" only the currently selected track?
So I could record say 4 separate loops, and when I select a track, I can hit the same "undo" button on my MIDI controller, and it will just undo the selected track, rather than undo the last loop that was recorded?
If not, I'll add it to the feature request thing - would be super cool.

Ableton Live can't do this without jumping through a bunch of hoops or using something like ClyphX.
Would have to use dynamic midi mapping or something like that so that the same button on a MIDI controller can be the "undo" button on the specific looper plugin you want it to affect, rinse and repeat - or can be worked around in some convoluted way by chewing up multiple preset banks in something like the Nektar Pacer, where each preset would represent each track. Which gets real messy real quick and sounds like asking for trouble at a gig.

Will Loopy Pro Mac be a separate purchase? Or an IAP inside a Universal app? Will it require a separate "upgrade plan" to iOS/iPadOS? I'm thinking of buying an upgrade plan for the iOS version of Loopy Pro, but I don't know whether the macOS version is included within the "year of updates".
Yep, it'll be a separate purchase, and I'm planning on having a discount for owners of the iOS version (which will be more discounted for those within the 12 months of the last upgrade)
Speaking of which, I noticed I purchased Loopy Pro in December 2021. I'm itching to re-up for another 12 months as soon as it's available. I know it hasn't been 12 months since the last update IAP was available, but as far as I'm concerned you can hit it up any time you like. 😎

Same, I still didn't buy Ableton Live, and won't, so long as Loopy Pro is on the Mac horizon.
My only reason for considering Ableton Live is for the looper plugin, no need for that with Loopy Pro though.
Can do home recordings on anything - I own a few other DAWs, but I'd love to be able to gig w/Loopy Pro and the stability of a Mac instead of iPad + everything else that comes with that (ie my Native Instruments suite and whatever else I own on Mac that isn't on iPad).
Loopy Pro will fill a gap in the Mac market - there currently isn't a single good and intuitive way to live loop at gigs. Live loop as in actually playing your instruments etc and looping them, not pre-made bs or samples.
Ableton Live has the looper plugin, but you've got to set everything up yourself + some things can't be done without CLYPHYX and I don't like the idea of having to buy a third-party anything just to have something as basic as a looper work the way I want it to.
Logic, Bitwig, Studio One and a heap of others don't even offer anything resembling a real looper - the Live Loops/session view/clip launcher modes aren't what I'm after.
Reapers Super8 looper is an absolute abomination, no thanks to that.
Mobius has people trying to make it work on current Macs or whatever but nothing seems to be actually progressing with any of that so that's a no.
Loopy Pro, when it comes, will be the only practical looper on Mac for real live work, as far as I'm concerned.
The Mac version of LP suffers for not being touch controlled. For me, the iPad version is way nicer to use, just like how other touch-first apps like Drambo are way better on the iPad.
But if you use it with a MIDI controller then it’s fine. Not sure that you will be able to use non-AU music apps with it on the Mac without routing them from another host app. Unless LP on the Mac gets VST hosting, which would be amazing.
Fair enough - I don't touch the iPad at all while playing, and that's the way I like it. I can't imagine something I'd like to do less at a gig, than that. It's bad enough having to swipe down on my setlist
I believe everything I have on Mac that I'd like to use on Mac LP is AU so on a completely selfish level, I'd be perfectly fine, haha - can't wait.
Will this be an ongoing discount or will it be limited to a certain period upon release?
Wouldn't it though ? On the Mac I mainly use Cubase so I have a lot of VST based stuff. Perhaps LP could run standalone and be an AU/VST plug in too? There's the ProTools users as well ( AAX format ?) that are a significant customer base.
I think Michael is savvy enough to realize that the market on the desktop platform is a little different than on iOS and requires more flexibility for different use-cases. That's why the price will be higher ( I assume ).

Michael is working hard on it. Estimating when it will be ready is near impossible. The next major milestone is the iOS version with MIDI Looping.
Just wondering if the minimum spec for the Mac version is known yet?
I use an Intel MacBook Pro (the first version that had USBC) for my music rig.

I broke my iPad a while ago and have been loopless for a few months - funnily enough, this makes me stand out from the crowd because every other bloody live act loops nowadays. I get people commenting about how refreshing it is to hear someone that isn't looping pretty regularly. lol.
I sold the Nektar Pacer because of the broken iPad + buying into positive commentary about no loops/gimmicks.
But. IDGAF about that now.
Looping is fun af for me and Loopy Pro was the only thing I had working the way I want - the Sheeran Looper would do the trick, but it's like $2400aud and that seems like a huge waste of money when I had Loopy Pro where I wanted it to be, I had Ed's setup replicated pretty much and loved it.
I'm not even a huge Ed fan, his system of looping works for me though, it feels natural/intuitive.
Picked up Ableton Live in the meantime, and it's still lacking in the same areas as above - no way to "peel" layers back without jumping through hoops and I don't want to spend extra cash on CLYPHX knowing fully well that I'll be purchasing LP for Mac the second it's released and selling my Ableton Live licence.
Bit of a useless post, just wanted to chime in with a +1 person still very much interested in LP for Mac.
I've explored so many other loopers and nothing gets there - I sold the RC-600 and will never buy another one again (had 2, sold both, hate the thing).. tried Enso, Repetito, MSuperLooper and who knows what else, nothing lets me set the tempo of the DAW to the first loop.
That's a complete deal-breaker. It means Ableton Live is the only alternative for true live looping (ie, no pre-made loops, you actually play real instruments on stage and loop them..).. and even though I've got a roundabout setup, it's not the same as I want LP + it looks like total crap in comparison to LP.
How can anyone get excited about playing music using what looks like Microsoft Excel?
I'll keep my eyes peeled for another iPad but prices have gone up somehow, I got mine (iPad Air 4 2020 M1 iirc) for $200aud second-hand. This was a great deal at the time but it wasn't like comically good, now I'm seeing them for like $600-700 on the used market though they're newer (I don't see the same model I had).
I'm too poor to just buy one outright without selling something else, damn tempted to get rid of the MacBook in favour of the iPad because the MacBook was originally bought to be used for music.. but I like making music on my PC (way more storage space is the primary reason).. so the MacBook gets used for browsing forums and nothing else.. whereas the iPad is actually useful for live stuff.
I would say you can do everything on the MacBook that you can on the iPad, but you can't, hence this post :P
I'm ready for the Mac version!
