An intro into the app market from Bastl instruments?

Just saw this on their twitter feed. New app incoming? Nice to have an awesome eurorack maker join the iOS community: https://x.com/bastlinstrument/status/1710320410519040361?s=61&t=alx1gI75pt0-i6sqc6BpWg

Agreed. If they made the Kastle, Drum, and Arp into iOS apps I’d jump for joy.

It’s an iPhone app that uses the inbuilt mic and speaker to add different resonances to samples depending on where the phone is. They demonstrate it using the iPhone in a cup, or in the guys mouth, or in a little tunnel. Basically it resamples from the speaker. You can also create impulse responses from any environment you are in.

    The app’s called “outsidify”.

Cool! More experimental devs coming to iOS and doing something different is highly welcomed!

That sounds wonderful, and my kind of thing. Sounds perfect for no-effort non-music! 🤣

With AI it literally is. So if you can't beat 'em, preempt 'em!

  • Looks like they are relaunching in 3 hours

    .

  • The description doesn’t mention anything about connectivity, which is a pity if it’s not there. Will have to watch that video when it’s up.

  • This would be great as AU

    So it's not AUv3? Damn

  • So…can this do anything we can’t already do with other apps?

    Nope.
    dRambo and MiRack have got
    this covered and then some.
However it’s a good sign for
    the iOS platform.
More of the more popular and
independent names are now turning up.

Isn’t the IR creating something new, or can that be done with that one I can’t remember the name of all of a sudden?

it doesn’t seem to have IR from the description.
What it does seem to have a Delay lines and feedback which will create resonance anyway
especially as the iphone microphone will be picking up the internal speaker when being used.
Still it does seem suited for experimentation and it’s a first offering from Bastl Instruments.
It would be cool, as mentioned earlier, if they ported across their Kastle and Drum instruments
other than that the iOS platform is already burgeoning with amazing apps.

It does say it can create impulse responses, about four feature down the list, and there’s a screenshot of it as well… might be useful if it does that…

    Ahhh, I missed that bit.
If it does do that then that would certainly be useful.

This is all you need. Works standalone and as an AUv3.

Hit Play, hold the iPhone into whatever object's IR you want to capture then hit REC shortly before one of the clicks and hit REC again when the echo/reverb of the object has become silent. Trim the Recorder file so it starts just a bit after the initial pulse. Save it and load your new IR into the Convolver to use in your project.

Yeah, I had a feeling tbh that that feature list didn’t sound all that groundbreaking. Kind of intrigued but also a bit disappointed tbh, looking at the amazing collection of stuff this company has.

Who knows what else they will bring us!
If they're still as creative as ever, there are good times ahead for sure 😊

  • i dont want this, have zero need for it and will likely never use it, but am still going to buy to support bastl in the hopes they bring something actually cool to iOS . I have a few of their hardware noise makers, and love them.

  • The video is out.(was still just scheduled earlier) - made it look quite fun

Yeah, the one touch ir thing looks pretty useful tbh, being technically possible to do it with dRambo is nice, but not as useful as just hitting one button and go… everything else looks fun too, nice to see non au full screen and dedicated stuff tbh, not everything has to be a plugin!
